"Hey!" Yori ran up to her. You could almost see the waves of 'emo' pulsating from her. Yes, that was bad news; but her race was going to survive. That was good news. So she was stuck like that...for a century.... At least she wasn't dying. "Your race is going to be safe, Alana. You succeeded in doing what you wanted to."
"And now I'm going home." She looked at him as she stood at the portal. "How do I make this thing work?" How come nothing ever came to work out her way? She wanted to fall in love. That fell through. She wanted to unite species. Instead, she was turned into an alien. She wanted a cure. Instead she was stuck for a century. She wanted to have children. Now she was incapable of it. She hated her life.
"Think of where you want to go," he told her. "The portal will automatically take you there." Almost as soon as he said that he quickly had to correct himself. "But it's only limited to the planet, so you can't just teleport home." He knew that she was upset, but he wanted to stay here longer. This place, it was like a paradise compared to earth. Convincing her to stay another hour was going to prove difficult much less another day or two. He might have to call in a favor with his father.
Alana stepped through the portal, thought of her things, then was sent to her living quarters. She instantly started packing. She didn't even bother folding things. She was so mad. She wanted to scream, to cry, to break something. If they weren't made of just energy, she would have hit one of them.
"Alana, I...." What was he suppose to say? Sorry for turning into one of my kind? As far as he was concerned, yes it was weird, but there were many perks that came with it. Sitting down on his bed he waved his hand as a holo screen appeared for him. His dad appeared a second later.
"How did things go with the Illumians?"
"Uh...they went well," he said, looking over his shoulder at Alana. "They said they can stop the spread of the virus, but it will take time to create an antidote."
"That's great!"
"About a century's worth of time...."
Raize's smile fell. "Oh...."
"Yeah. So, Alana is pretty upset. She wants to come home now b-"
"I'm afraid that's not possible. Due to the virus, earth has been quarantined for the next 48 hours until the Illumians can stop its spread and ensure that there is no way it can infect other species. No one leaves earth, and no one comes back to earth."
Well that worked out wonderfully. They had to stay there and he didn't have to use a favor form his father. "That's...a shame," Yori said, trying his best to sound hurt by this news.
Alana glared at the screen. "That better be a joke. Tell me it's a joke!" Alana begged. "I can't stay here! You don't have any idea what it was like to stand in front of them and to be told that I can never be the way I once was! I'm human, ok! A human! And I'm trapped inside a body I don't understand!"
"I'm afraid that it's no joke," Raize told her. "The USDF has issued the warning directly. Any violation would suffer extreme consequences."
Alana's hands fisted. "This is unfair! I don't get the body I was born with and now I can't go home! Not that I have a home! Or money! Or anything!" She just couldn't hold it in anymore. Taking a deep breath, she yelled. Her voice was loud and angry, making her face red and hot. Her eyes were closed tight as she screamed until she didn't have any air left in her lungs. She then went to her knees and balled. It just wasn't fair. Nothing was fair.
"Dad I'll call you back." Yori waved the holo screen away and knelt beside Alana. He wasn't going to say anything. Mushy stuff just seemed wrong for him. She needed to cry and yell and possibly hit things. If she wanted, she knew that he was more than willing to be her punching bag. Her words kept echoing in his ears. She didn't have anything.... She had him, but apparently that didn't amount to much anymore.
She felt so lost. She felt abused. Alana had always thought that the things she did were good. She always did things to benefit Eldarians or Humans. She risked her life just to make people on Earth equal. Couldn't she just have one thing? Just one thing be easy for her? Couldn't she just be human again?
She cried until her throat hurt then stopped and wiped her eyes. She didn't feel any better, but at least she got the crying out of the way. But where did she go from here? Eldarians didn't need her help anymore and the humans were always fine without her. There was nothing left for her to do. And then there was Yori. Yori who she was also confused about and couldn't seem to forgive. It only added to the list of things she wasn't sure about.
Yori took the empty containers and tossed them at nothing in particular. They disappeared into nothingness. Stroking her hair and ears he sat back and sighed. "I've been thinking about that," he admitted. Unlike him, she needed a goal in life. Something to work toward. Something to do to keep her busy. He didn't. He just needed adventure and excitement. "You've been having a hard time adjusting to being an Eldarian. Needless to say it hasn't been kind to you. Well, there's now about forty thousand humans that are going through the same thing you went through. You've had more experience dealing with the changes then they have. Perhaps it would be a good idea when we get back to earth for you to try and fill them in. Guide them to speak about the differences and changes that are going to take place. You have a way with words, and you can relate to what they're going through."
"I don't care about them anymore. They can go fuck themselves for all I care. I'm tired of helping people. I want to be selfish," she said as she turned to look at him. "And I don't give a damn if that's mean or not. Every time I try to help others, I end up screwing with myself. Maybe if I just became selfish I'll finally get the things I want."
Not exactly the response he had been expecting. "Okay then. What is it that you want?"
She sat up again. "I have no idea."
"Generally speaking, it helps to know what you want before you try to get it."
She thought a moment. "I want to be pregnant. Not now, but I want to be someday. I want to be human again. I want a lot of things that I know will never happen now that I'm this," she said then gestured to herself.
"Eldarians age a lot slower than humans. You could live out an entire life and then return to being human and have the life you always dreamed of."
"That's just it, Yori. I never wanted to live a thousand lives. I was just happy being a weak, short life human."
"Still.... I know it may seem like a long time, Alana, but you will be a human again. It is not as if you will forever be like this. I'm certain that when you return to being human you'll find someone, settle down, and have kids...just like you want."
She met his eyes. "And what if I just want you?"
He took a deep breath before offering her a smile. "Then I'm all yours."
"But I don't get to have kids with you, even if I was human," she said watching his face closely.
Yori look at her. A century. His kind normally lived ten times that amount. He didn't know what he was going to do with that time, but he had never expected his life to be cut short by anything. Not like it was going to be. "Then the Illumina will have to make me human," he told her. That was all he could offer her. Which considering he was offering her a ninth of his average lifespan, he was hoping it would be enough.
She smirked. "Don't be stupid, Yori. I don't want you to shorten your life just to live two lives with me."
"Well I'm not going to let someone else knock you up," he told her defensively.
Her heart jumped at that. Slowly, her hand went to his face and caressed it. "Ever since we met both our worlds have been turned upside down and we haven't even known each other for a year. Do you think you can deal with me for two life times? Maybe longer?"
Yori rolled his eyes. "You've bitten my ear. Kicked my ass. Pulled my tail. Tried to kill me. You even stole my sardines. If I haven't gotten tired of you or killed you yet, then it's a safe bet that you're stuck with me for life." He was curious about the 'maybe longer' part of her little question. Would she consider staying like this? Even if she knew that she couldn't have kids.
She smiled. It was a jerk sort of answer, but it was a Yori answer. And when her world always seemed to fall apart, Yori was there with his jerk answers. And this particular answer was the answer she needed to hear since yesterday. Leaning in, her lips met his. She was soft, as if it was their first kiss.
Yori hesitated. He never hesitated in moments like these. She was kissing him...but it was soft and gentle. He was slightly afraid to do anything that might set her off and make her use him for a scratching post. Returning the kiss, he figured that just this one time he could be all soft and gentle....
Her hands cupped his face as she massaged her lips with his ever so gently. Slowly, she pulled back and pressed her forehead to his. She could forgive him, not because of his answer, but because she needed him. She didn't have anyone else or anything else that was constant in her life. But Yori had planned to be constant until the very end. He wanted to be by her side. She wasn't sure if she could trust him like before, but she knew enough to know that she couldn't keep her distance from him. He was her drug and she wasn't ready to go cold turkey just yet. She wanted to be addicted to him.
Yeah. Soft. Gentle. That wasn't going to last very long. With their foreheads pressed together, his tail flicked up and swiped at her thigh. "Tell me," he said after a long moment. "You have a hundred and twenty-six years of being an Eldarian. You think that sometime during that century you could marry someone as wonderful and awesome as I am?"
"You are very vain, Yori," she said with a smile. "Maybe. Depends on how rich you get. And since your father is ruling the world, that puts you second in line so that ups your chances a bit."
"He's not ruling the world," Yori groaned. "And I'm not taking the family business after he's gone. One of my sister's can do that." There was a pause as he added. "And I just proposed to you.... Don't I get a little credit for that?"
"You didn't purpose. You asked me a question about the future." She smirked. "Wow, that's twice in one week that I said no to you. You're not doing so great are you?"
"You didn't say no this time," he replied sourly. "You just said maybe. There's a difference."
She reached up and rubbed his ears. "I have a century to say yes. Why rush?"
Yori purred beneath her touch. Every time they got into an argument she did this. It wasn't fair. "I hate you," he mumbled as he closed his eyes and purred.
She smirked. "Yeah, I know. I can live with that."
Opening his eyes, he smirked and rubbed her ears. Two could play this game now. "Now that you're in a slightly less emo mood," he said. "You want to check out this paradise?"
Alana pulled back from his touch. "Stop that! They belong to me!" she said and covered her ears with her hands. "I'll go out in town, but I won't like it," she said sternly. "I hate it here," she added with a mumble.
Yori rolled his eyes and instead reached out and stroked her tail teasingly. "Face it kitty. You're all mine." He smirked and pulled on her tail lightly. "You haven't seen the place yet. You may just find that you like it. I'm already looking for houses here."
She snatched her tail. "You can live you but I will not! These people are...are...I just hate them ok!"
He nodded and rubbed her now uncovered ears. "Okay, well at least try to enjoy it here for the next two days. I don't want to be overcome by your emo-ness." He stole a quick kiss before she could object and pulled her into the teleporter, taking them to the recreation center which was practically heaven.
It was beautiful. She had never seen such beauty. But...she wanted to hate it. Pulling her hand from his she crossed her arms. "If I want to be emo, I'm going to be emo and you are going to deal."
As they walked by one of the numerous areas which featured their technological advances, Yori took a small silver bead and placed it close to her ear. The bead seemed to come alive as it latched onto her ear and sent waves of vibrations through her body. "Tell me, can you truly be emo with that thing? I went into a pleasure coma....granted I did put six of them on me at once."
Alana was caught off guard. She moaned lightly as the vibrations ran down her body. She reached up and pulled it out then handed it back to him. "You just don't like me having any other emotion other than happy, do you?"
