Chapter Three: Celebrate or No?

(A/N: I do apologize for delaying for so long, but as you can see, no one reviews anymore, well not until the one I just got telling me to update. If I got more feedback like that, I'd update a lot more. Anyway, here you go.)

 

Kanami panicked. What was she going to do?

“I'm pregnant… I… I'm…” She stuttered, trying to function with the information. “How… can I be… pregnant?” Kanami asked herself, grabbing her head in panic. “Wha… What am I suppose to do.” Kanami thought to herself, in a cold sweat picturing her hellish future. Looking after two kids, one who isn't even her own. Kanami hastily ran out of the toilet and straight to the kitchen, she began searching her bag making sure she had everything to hurry off to work. She needed the comfort of her boss, since she, other than Mimori, knew of her and Kazuma's “adventures.” Kanami felt a twinge in her head, which was awkward. Kanami quickly went to the door and called to Aura, who came running in one of Kanami's old suits, (Which looks like a smaller version of her own.) Kanami dashed off towards work as fast as she could, with Aura attempting at best to keep up.

“Ms Kanami, Ms Kanami, wait for me!” She cried out. Kanami was in too much of a panic to notice. She arrived at work and Aura about ten seconds after. Kanami walked in quietly through the door, holding her chest for dear life, breathing extremely heavily. She stumbled a little bit and walked onwards as Aura came in the door. Kanami stopped and held onto the kitchen side for support as she tried to catch her breath. Aura was concerned and walked over to her, huffing and puffing from exhaustion herself. She tugged on her jumper a little bit.

“Ms… Kanami… are… you okay?” she said whilst breathing. Kanami turned to look at her and freaked her out when he eyes rolled backwards and closed, followed by her collapsing on the floor. “AHHHHH!!!!!!!!” Aura screamed. Kanami's boss ran in and noticed everything almost immediately. Aura was in tears of fear and alarm. Kanami's boss grabbed Kanami and lifted her into her arms, taking her into the front room and placed her gently on the sofa with a fluffy pillow. Aura was still panicking for Kanami, since she was like an older sister already.

 

Kanami woke up not long after being place on the sofa. He head ached like mad and she felt her breath was drained from her body as she tried to get it back again. Her chest throbbed and she clenched it. She tried to remember what had happened. Her boss walked in and saw she was awake.

“Oh, hello sleepy head.” She joked. “Aura tried to explain, and from what she says, you seemed to have had a panic attack. But what troubles me is I can only think up two reasons why you'd have a panic attack. One: Kazuma is rumoured killed, which, by the way isn't true, I heard no such rumours, or two… your pregnant.” She explained.

“I can't believe I'm… going to have a baby.” Kanami said.

“Ah ha, I knew it.” Her boss said. “Foolish girl! How could you be so clumsy?” she asked angrily.

“I'm sorry, but if I didn't do it, I probably never will have.” Kanami pled.

“Fine, fine. Well, you can't work, now that you're pregnant.”

“Why not? How will I live?” Kanami asked.

“Well… I could give you a few hundred…”

“No! I don't want free money. I'd need to pay it back someday and as hard as it is to get much money as it is, I don't think that having to spend money on kids and paying back would leave much for me. I need food and things too. I need to earn it.”

“…Fine, but I'm not giving you too much manual labour.”

“Than what else am I to do?” Kanami asked.

“I don't know. How about resting for the moment, you just collapsed after all.” Her boss then walked out, leaving Kanami and Aura alone. Kanami looked over to Aura, who still looked worried.

“…Ms Kanami? Are you k?” Aura asked, very sweetly.

“……”

“Uh… knock, knock Ms Kanami.”

“Huh?” Kanami snapped out of her trance.

“Are you k?” Aura asked again.

“I… don't know. Usually a woman who's pregnant is thrilled about it… oh, what am I going to do?” Kanami said burying her face into her hands. She just had to come up with a solution to this.

“Well… uh… Just be happy. No point worrying bout what not yet pass.” Aura said. Kanami looked at the sweet little girl.

“…I… guess not.” Kanami stood up, but wobbled a bit. She grabbed the side of the sofa to stop from falling over. She waited and then walked over to the door.

 

(Btw: since I don't know Kanami's boss's name. I'm going to call her Ms Hanabishi. If she even has a name and you know it, tell me.)

 

Kanami walked into the kitchen, where her boss was sat.

“Oh, Kanami. On your feet already? You should be resting, girl.” She said. Kanami grabbed a stool and sat on it.

“What am I going to do?” she asked.

“Well, you could have an abortion. But since the technology in these regions is low, it might kill or damage you too. And it's expensive, but then again, raising children is an expensive business…”

“An abortion is completely out of the question.” Kanami yelled.

“…Figured you'd say that. Well, that leaves just one option… you keep it. So, there what you do. Or do you want your answer in a bit more detail?” Ms Hanabishi asked.

“……” at that point, Mimori walked in.

“Good morning.” She said, aloud to them.

“And a good day to you too.” Ms Hanabishi said. “Mimori, could you do me a favour?” she asked

“Sure, what is it?” Mimori asked.

“Well, it seems that Kanami has…” Kanami lifted one of her hands hastily to try to stop her, but withdrew it, knowing full well that she wasn't going to stop. “Gotten herself pregnant, so I want you to…”

“Pregnant! She's pregnant?!” Mimori asked in shock. She looked over to Kanami.

“Yeah…” Kanami said, sounding almost ashamed. Mimori walked over.

“But, your so young.” She said.

“These things happen.” Ms Hanabishi said. “So, I want you to look after her in her `time of need.'” She finished.

“I'd be happy to.” Mimori replied. “Kanami, if you need anything then come and ask me, okay.”

“Okay.”

“Everyone be happy now! It sounds like bad thing to be pregnant. I wanna be pregnant too!” Aura cheered in delight, not exactly knowing what everyone was talking about. “Is pregnant some type of happy feeling?” she asked. Everyone apart form her started laughing. “What? What'd I say?” she asked.

 

After Kanami had done a whole days worth of work, she went back to see Ms Hanabishi. She walked in and looked around for her. She found her in the front room, watching the news. It was going on about some new type of disease going round. It wasn't very contagious, but if you got it, it'd kill you slowly and painfully. Kanami walked over to her.

“Um… I'm done…” she said. Her boos turned to face her.

“Your wages are where they usually are.” She told her. She looked up at her sad and worried face. “Don't panic. You've a whole nine months to wait for the baby to be born and you have so many friends around you when it happens. You have nothing to worry about.” She told her.

“I… I'm… I'm scared.” Kanami said, just before she burst into tears. Ms Hanabishi stood up and walked over to her. She pulled her into a hug, and without much delay, Kanami grabbed a hold of her and cried into her chest. Hanabishi pet her on the head.

“There, there. There is nothing to fear. Just let it all out. Get it out of the way.” She said. She waited for Kanami to calm down a bit. She then pulled away and touched her cheeks. “It's not going to happen for a long time. And I'll help you every step of the way.” She smiled and Kanami, although it wasn't very real, tried a small smile. She wiped her eyes and stepped away. “Now, go home and rest, my dear. You a long few months a head of you. But, just remember. When you start showing, I'm taking you off of manual labour.” She said.

“But…”

“No buts. There's nothing worse than a miscarriage. It's like a painful abortion. I know, because I once miscarried. Not very comfy.” Kanami giggled. She then left and picked up her wages, took Aura and went home.

 

On the way home, Aura kept on coughing. Kanami thought nothing of it at first, thinking it might just be a bit of dust. But it didn't stop and slowly Aura began to slow down her pace. Kanami turned to face her and saw a lack in concentration in her eyes.

“Aura… are you okay?” she asked. Just then Aura collapsed on the floor. Kanami hastily ran over. “Aura! What's wrong? Hey, wake up. Aura! Aura!!!” She lifted Aura and gently shook her, tapped her face and cried out to her, but aura wouldn't wake up. She was breathing heavily and Kanami was getting worried. Kanami picked her up and ran back to Ms Hanabishi's house.
