Ch. 5: Murder he Wrote

"Shadow, I need you to do a major assignment for me! It seems as though Michael, Sonic's son, is about to get out of the hospital! I need you to thwart that progress! We cannot afford any miscalculations now, for Sonic II is not yet fully prepared to face either Sonic or Michael, we must keep them busy so that Sonic II can have enough experience in battle to expect the two of those hedgehogs." Eggman's voice started to sound slightly desperate and crazed.

"Whatever...you say...Master..." Shadow responded in the same way he had since he was brainwashed: emotionless.

Shadow was heading out when Eggman saw a spark shoot out of the EMC device on the table. Eggman saw it being only one spark, and the auto-fix program could easily handle one or two leaks in the system.

However, unnoticed by Eggman, Shadow's expression had changed dramatically with that spark. The machine had been losing power ever since Eggman put it on his head.

However, Shadow was still not in control of his body, he had some control, but not enough to fight against Eggman's EMC, not by any strecth of the imagination.

"I expect good things, Shadow!" Eggamn barked out more instructions to Shadow, causing yet more sparks to erupt from the EMC. Eggman was getting nervous in his decision making as more and more sparks came out everytime he uttered a command.

Suddenly, a moniter offline, then another and another. The EMC was draining all the power from Eggman's base of operations. Eggman knew it was only a matter of time before that device short-circuited, and he had to act fast, otherwise, Sonic II would have been a complete waste of time and resources.

"Computer! All systmes initialize minimum power safeguards! Cut off any power deemed unnecessary to the function of this base! Cut light fixtures and air-conditioning to 50%! I want every percent of power restored to the base itself!" Eggman shouted orders to the computer, and the power checking unit started, the room was getting dimmer, so Eggman had to take off his goggles.

"Damnt..." Eggman knew the device was going to be nearly worthless with the power shutting down.

<Meanwhile, outside the hospital>

"So, hows it feel to be out in the wordl again?" Sonic said, looking at Michael's walking motion, seeing no detections of fault in his walking motion.

"Doing great! Man, it feels good to get out of those casts and bandages!" Michael said, flexing and strecthing his ligaments, testing them out. "I can't wait to start running again!" Michael said.

"Why wait, when we can do it now?" Sonic said, tempting his son to race him.

"Well I-{Explosion} huh?!" Michael turned towards the sound of the explosion, noticing that Shadow had just stolen a Chaos Emerald.

"Look! I don't believe who it is!" Amy shouted, knowing the rage that Sonic was going to exert on Shadow.

"YOU!!!!!!" Sonic was filled with hate at seeing the figure in front of him. "How dare you show yourself!! You are going to die for what you've done to me!!!" Sonic was about to go all-out on Shadow, but his son held him back.

"No, let me do the honors, dad! I'm younger, I'm faster...and I'm a hell'uv a lot better looking!" Michael said, giving Sonic a grin after this last statement.

"Okay! Give him a serious beating!" Sonic said, encouraging his son to destroy Shadow.

"Hey! Where do you think you're going with that emerald?!" Michael said, stepping infront of Shadow's path. "You ruin my dad's life, and now you want to steal things?! What is your problem?! What has happened to you?! You used to be so good!" Michael saw that Shadow didn't say or show any emotion, and that concerned Michael.

"Go on! Get him!" Sonic was telling his son to hurt Shadow, but Michael saw something not right with Shadow.

"Something's not right! He hasn't moved or blinked or...said anything ever since he had that emerald! Its almost like he has no control over his body." Michael said, much to Sonic's shock.

"What do you mean?" Sonic asked, not knowing if Shadow was bluffing or if Michael really meant what he said.

"Watch!" Michael stood in front of Shadow and placed his hand on the Chaos Emerald. Sonic and the others expected Shadow to retaliate, but he didn't even twitch an eyelash.

"I don't think this is who we think it is! If he isn't moving, he isn't showing any emotion...he must be in a trance, or something!" Tails said, inspecting Shadow furthur.

Michael then noticed a strange device attached to Shadows' left ear.

"Look! Its just as I thought! Shadow's under Mind-Control!" Michael finally announced.

"Who would do this to him?!" Sonic demanded.

"! I think this logo oughta explain everything!!" Michael said with resentment in his voice. Sonic took the device from Michael's hand and saw the logo of Eggman.

"That son of a bitch!!!!!!!!!" Sonic yelled and threw the device on the ground and crushed it with his shoe.

"Eggman!!" Michael yelled loud enough to wake an elephant. Michael then ran towards Eggmans complex at speeds fast enough to shatter the sound barrier.

"Michael! Wait up!!" Sonic called after his son, but he was already on the other side of the city before Sonic even could speak the first syllable.

"Sonic?" Tails looked at Sonic in amazement.

"Yeah, Tails, whats the matter?" Sonic said, noticing the obvious confusion in Tails eyes.

"Are you sure that thats your son? I mean, he runs faster then you!" Tails said, amazed at the quickness of Michael.

"Yeah, he's my son, and, to tell ya the truth, I don't know how he got that speed!" said Sonic, much to Tails amazement.

"Anyways, lets follow him!" Tails said.
