Thoughts—`Conscience Speech'—<Telepathic Speech>
----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------
Jinx knew what Draco was talking about, so she didn't bother to ask any questions. After checking Starfire's body for any signs of life, she knelt next to Starfire's head and placed two fingers on Star's neck while Raven stepped-up and helped by scanning Star's mind for activity. After a few moments, she was relieved when her mental scan picked up signs of Starfire's mind still mildly active. With a relieved sigh, she reported, “She's alive, her mind is still active, and,” she paused to focus her powers on the fallen alien's heart rate then continued, “and her heart rate is very low, almost like it isn't there.”
Jinx nodded in agreement and said, “She's right. I can't get an accurate pulse count because it's so low.” She removed her fingers from the side of Star's neck and looked at everyone's confused faces—except from Draco and Magnum—and remembered something she should have told the Titans, “I forgot to mention this earlier, but I also have a Class A license in Nursing,” she paused then translated for BeastBoy, “I'm a certified nurse as well, BeastBoy.”
“Oh…” was all the shape shifter could say at the moment.
Raven kept herself focused on her critically injured friend, “So, how do we get her out of her coma, if that's what she's in?”
Jinx told everyone, “Magnum told me that Draco can “hard-wire” someone's heart, or something like that, when this happens. He's done it several times before.”
“Well, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! GET HER BACK, NOW!!” Robin yelled at Draco while being held back by the maniac-like laughing Magnum before he could pound Draco into the next century for almost killing his wife.
“I'm already on it Robin,” he said to the Titans' leader. Then on a side note, he turned to his team's only female and said, “By the way Jinx, I'm able to partly possess people. Well, as far as their body's electrical impulses and nerves are concerned.” Then getting back on task, he started charging up, “Could everyone take a few steps back, especially you Cy, don't want another short-circuit do ya? Raven and Jinx, standby,” he instructed everyone as he finished charging, and then he held his hands close to Star's body.
Turning back to Robin he said, “Sorry about this Robin,” And you too Star, even though ya can't here me.
He held out his hand firmly, then tiny lightning bolts shot from his hands to the fallen alien's body, making her twitch as the bolts bounced and surged through her body, finding their way to Starfire's heart and brain via her nerves. When the twitching died down, Raven checked her heart and brain activity again, and found them to be as low as if Draco didn't do a thing. Draco charged his hands up further, “Jinx, a little help here!” he called to her.
She nodded, and aimed her hand at Star, making Rob try to get out of Magnum's grip harder than he already was. Jinx shot a few hexes at Star, but everyone noticed they were dark-purple instead of her trademark bright purple.
Draco shot more mini-bolts into Starfire's body while Jinx's dark-purple hex waves made contact with Star's rapidly twitching body.
“Dark ones cause good-luck.” Jinx told everyone, with a modest grin on her face, like when someone says something smart-alecky, which worried everyone else that hadn't been with Jinx for the past two months.
As this happened, Raven thought, If he brings Star out of her current state, I wonder if he can even reverse death…
<No I can't.>
Raven almost jumped like Star's body when he talked to her telepathically.
<This is the second time I put someone in a state like this because of my finisher.> he admitted through the telepathic link he shared with her.
Once it sank in that he could read minds, she telepathically asked, <How did it happen the first time?>
<Magnum got hit and he had a small heart attack the first time I showed him that.>
<Did he know what happened afterwards?>
<For the most part, but I told him anyways. And a bunch of marines saw everything that happened. It's a miracle he didn't kill me then. Just as funny as the fact that I'm the only one that can scare him shitless with a single thought, even though he's fearless.> Draco telepathically said with a grin on his face.
Looking back down, Draco kept applying the electricity, as Jinx kept using her gifted powers (I don't know if causing good and bad luck is a good thing or not…). Fortunately, with the combined forces of Draco's electrical jump-start and Jinx's `lucky-hexes', Star's pulse returned to normal.
“She has her normal pulse now,” Raven told the others, wiping the sweat from her forehead that had collected without her noticing. Robin was simply overjoyed, but he ran up and thanked Draco over dramatically, like he was the Anti-Grim Reaper.
“Now,” Draco told the Boy Wonder once Robin calmed down a bit, “you should probably take her to her room. She'll be out for about the rest of the day before the attack's effect wears off completely. When she wakes up, tell her I said I was sorry for this mess. I'll try to make sure it doesn't happen again. I promise.”
Robin nodded and carried Star's limb form to the tower, as he was leaving, he left Raven in charge of continuing the initiation fights.
“Magnum, you're next. Who do you want to fight?” Raven asked Magnum, hoping he wouldn't pick her. She was still feeling kinda numb from the major electrocution.
“I think I'm going to fight…Cyborg!” he declared, and then turning to Jinx, he asked, “Should I use the magnum?”
That question made Robin stop dead in his tracks with Star's lifeless body in his arms.
“Go ahead, but don't shoot him where it could kill or do any serious damage,” she warned him, “I'm not a mechanic, that kinda thing was Gizmo's specialty.”
“Um, maybe we should just let you and Jinx in, instead of fighting. However Jinx, you are going to be guarded until you can prove you have quit with the High-Five completely and you're serious about joining with us.” Raven decided, before the Titans would have to take a trip to the hospital, even if Jinx was a nurse.
“WHAT?! You can trust her!” Draco and Magnum exclaimed at the same time. Both teammates looked like they were talking to Jinx's executioner.
Draco continued, “We've trusted her ever since Magnum saved her from…!”
Magnum gave Draco a look that told Draco to shut his mouth and let him to the talkin'.
“Now,” Magnum started, “at the time this occurred, we were known as just “Shadow Scope”, but we still did what we do today. Anyways, when Jinx quit with the High-Five, she was chased by her former allies, when she got cornered, me and Draco jumped in and helped her out. But at that time we didn't know she was one of your enemies. Plus, I thought it was the right thing to do, seein' how we uphold justice our way, and so while he distracted Mammoth and the others, I tried to take care of Gizmo.”
“But why help her?” BB chimed in, still as confused as he always was.
“Because she was screamin' at the top of her lungs trying to get those idiots away from her. But by the time we got there, her clothes were badly torn, and she didn't have her pants on—”
“WHAT!?” the other Titans yelled/asked in unison.
“They tried to rape me,” Jinx admitted, with light tears in her eyes. She wiped them away quickly, but more kept coming.
Draco threw in, “And Shadow Scope—the team's name before Jinx joined—specializes in defending rape victims.”
As he gave Draco a look, Magnum walked over to Jinx and held her tightly while he continued, “Exactly, that's when Draco showed me one of his special attacks. I think it was a weaker version of his `Dragon-Thunder' attack or somethin' like that. He targeted Mammoth, got a direct hit, and Mammoth was paralyzed for a good, 10 hours, and the others ran away when Draco shifted to his half-dragon form. Gizmo managed to get away, but he didn't get far before I caught him!”
“He was the one trying to rape me,” Jinx threw in.
“Once I caught the little runt,” Magnum continued while still holding Jinx tenderly, “I had him trapped and he learned a lesson that he won't forget until he dies; attempt to rape a girl in this city, and you will pay and suffer for a long time. So—”
He was interrupted by Draco's continuation, “So we took her to our HQ/home near the edge of this city, and Magnum nursed her back to health, and she joined with us and she promised to help us uphold justice. Magnum swore to listen and protect her, no matter what. In fact, he even—”
Draco didn't get a chance finish what he was saying before Magnum whapped him in the back of the head with enough force to knock him off balance. Standing back up with a sweat drop on his head, he placed his hands together (as if he was about to pray) and quickly said, “I'm not gonna say it…I not gonna say it…” he nearly chanted as he slowly started to pack-pedal away.
“Well, with that, we will accept you three into the Teen Titans. Welcome aboard Draco, Magnum, and Jinx.” Robin ended that then and there, being more concerned about his wife instead of new members.
“So, what do ya guys wanna do?” BB asked them.
Draco eagerly asked, “Got any video games?”
“Name your game!” BB and Cy challenged.
“How about…HALO 2? Dragon Ball Z Budikai 3? Mortal Kombat Deception? Tekken Tag? Crash Tag Team Racing? Super Smash Bros. Melee? Fusion Frenzy?”
“Oh no. Here he goes again,” Magnum mused out loud, “You two might wanna quit while you're ahead. Draco can't be beat easily at those games.”
“We'll see about that.” Cy told Magnum. Then they all went inside, and the CTTR races began. Draco used Nina Cortex, BB used Crash Bandicoot, and Cy used Dr. N. Gin. The three decided to race every race that was available.
After they raced, in which (collectively speaking) Draco got 1st, Cy got 3rd, and BB got 7th, they played Draco's favorite style on Halo 2--everyone invisible, armed with a sword and a Sentinel Beam, and no weapons or vehicles on the map. Draco took a few minutes to edit the profiles for himself and Magnum, save the profiles on the X-BOX's hard drive, as well as the custom made game variant.
Then after they played a few rounds as “ninjas”, in which, Draco annihilated the competition, the boys played normally, fighting at Coagulation, with Magnum, Jinx and Raven stuck watching. Magnum occupied himself by warning Cy and BB about a few of Draco's traps, but they were warned a little too late; they would go in the right place, get sniped by Draco, and he would take the prize, the rocket launcher.
Eventually, Magnum joined in to even the odds, but it made little difference. BB still fell for Draco's trap, even after Draco told him. Cyborg got a few lucky shots on Draco whenever he was busy sniping Magnum or BB. Cyborg achieved that goal by either blowing him up with a plasma grenade or the Scorpion's primary fire, or running him over with a Ghost when he was out in the open. But Draco always got revenge by running Cy over with another Ghost with the plasma fire shooting, while saying, “Say hello, to my little friend!” in the tone of Scarface. The gaming lasted for the rest of the day, and when night rolled around; Shadow Scope-X headed home and said they'll start moving in tomorrow.
Later (10:30 pm), in Starfire's room…
Star woke up, in her room on her bed, with Robin asleep on a chair next to the bed with his head on the bed's edge. Star gently woke him up, “Robin my love, I seek your companionship at this time.”
Robin woke up slowly, then he was fully awake when he realized that Star had awakened and wished to talk with him, “Oh hey Star. How are you feeling?”
“I feel unharmed at this present time. Why do you ask? Wait, why am I here and not in the match with the `noobies' wishing to join us? And what happened to me during my match? All I can remember is thinking I was successful with defeating Draco, hearing a roar of some sort, then seeing a green-skinned…monster. As it attacked, all I can remember is being unable to see, then feeling extreme pain, and then…nothing”
Although Star gave Robin quite a list of queries for him to answer, he was able to answer them very well. “Well Star…First off; you blacked-out because you received a direct hit from the attack, and you fell from where you were in the air. Second; you're here because the attack can have long-term effects and Draco advised me to take you here to get some rest and to recover. Third; like I said already, you got hit directly from Draco's attack, and that caused you to black-out—”
Star interrupted him for a second, “Where was Draco? He was not present when that monster attacked.”
“He was that monster—which is actually Draco's half-dragon form, and when the attack ended, you, Raven and Cy were knocked-out, but Raven and Cy woke up quicker, most likely because they managed not to get hit with a blast. But after that, we all accepted him, that's when we realized that you were still unconscious. Draco and Magnum told us to make sure you were alright, but when Raven went to see if you were, she realized you were in a coma, well, actually Jinx told us that you were because she and Raven couldn't find your pulse—”
“If that was so, then how did I not die?”
“Because you were in a coma, which means that you're still alive, but you're in a deep sleep, almost as if you were dead, cuz your pulse is very slow. Anyway, Draco tried to revive you by using his powers, but he failed but then succeeded in returning your pulse to normal after a second try. And so we accepted him. Oh and by the way, Draco told me to tell you that he was sorry for causing you all that pain and that he will try to make sure it won't happen again. As a matter of fact, we accepted his friends without them having to fight someone, at least without getting someone hurt.”
“Even our enemy that is able to bring us bad-luck at any time?” Star asked frantically.
“Uh Star, she quit the High-Five. And she turned over a new leaf. In fact, she wants revenge on the High-Five for what happened to her the day she quit. Plus, she's a nurse now, so I doubt she'll harm us.”
“Why would Jinx want revenge?”
Robin spent the next ten minutes telling Star the mystery behind Jinx's story and involvement with the two males that made up Shadow Scope (as it was called before Jinx Joined with them).
“What an awful fate, why would Gizmo and Mammoth wish to harm and impregnate their old friend?”
“She wasn't really their friend, just their old leader and to them a traitor.”
“I still do not trust her; after all, she is not one of our friends or allies.”
“But she did help Draco when he was trying to revive you.”
“She did? Well that is a different story, but I still do not trust her, I shall give her time to build a trust bond with me. On the other hand, I will go thank Draco for correcting his mistake as well as make him and his friend my friends.”
“Why not Jinx as well?”
“Like I said, it will take me time to trust her completely.”
“Fine, but you need your rest,” Robin looked at his watch, “Plus, its 11:05 p.m., everyone's sleeping. You should do that in the morning.”
“O.K. Good night, Robin my love.”
“G'Night Star.”
They kissed, and Robin went to his room to finish off the night. With relieved spirits, he fell into an easy sleep.
