Thoughts—`Conscience Speech'—“COM Speech”
----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------
During the next few days, the Titans had gotten to know their new teammates more while they helped them move in. They also saw how well they worked together in and out of battle and just how “dangerous” Draco could be when he's amped and in full dragon-form. And on Friday, Starfire remembered that she forgot to ask the three a few things. First thing she did that morning was asked them, “Where are you from? How did you get here? Who is your favorite music group? What is your favorite color? Do you wish to be my friend?”
Draco answered first, “Earth; Flew/Drove, depending on how you look at it; I like any kind of music; Green; and sure.” He got a hug from Star that almost crushed his ribs, although his reinforced skeletal structure could prevent that.
Next Magnum answered, “Earth; Drove; Laluna Coil Band; Dark-Blue; and why not.” And he also got a death-hug from Star, but she didn't use as much of her strength as she normally did—still a little fearful for the gun strapped to his hip.
Jinx was the last one to answer, “Earth; Rode with Magnum; Evanescence; Purple; and sure.” Even though she was now a Titan and on Star's ever-growing list of friends, she didn't get the death-hug, to Jinx's disappointment and somewhat relief.
Next, Magnum and Jinx had their initiation, which unfortunately turned out to be a two-on-one fight with Draco. Magnum was permitted to use his gun, and the Titans learned a sorta scary thing about Draco, he was used as Magnum's personal target! Once they finished their initiation, Draco told them he never got shot because he was too fast, but he left out his secret trait that prevented a dragon's death, unless by another dragon.
After lunch, Draco challenged everyone to a few rounds of HALO 2. Only Robin, BB, Magnum and Cyborg accepted his challenge. Two hours later, once Robin, Cyborg and BB got tired of being killed by the tag-teaming Draco and Magnum, the Titans talked with each other about doing something they haven't done in a while, but they didn't know what, including Cy and BB, who found out how hard it is to beat Draco at most video games.
Eventually they all decided to go dance at the old warehouse that now served as a dance club, which got a few new gimmicks, like a basement, racing arena, and a furnished second floor. Once that was settled, Cy and BB declined at first, but Rob said, “Hey why don't you go?” He said the next part in a singsong tone; “You might get lucky while you're there…[wink, wink]”
Cy and BB said, “Well, what are we waiting for? LETS PARTY!” Draco tried to be funny and cute at the same time by saying, “Sweet! It's party time! P-A-R-T-Why? Because I gotta!” At first no on laughed, but then they got his pun on the spelling of `party', well, Raven laughed inwardly, hiding her smile under her hood.
“Come on Raven. Don't you think that's funny?” BB asked her, noticing she was the only one that didn't crack-up at the joke.
“Better than what you can do, but it was a bit of a bad pun.” Since everyone else was laughing, they didn't hear her, nor notice the small grin she had, betraying her emotionless façade.
“Well, now that that's settled, how are we all goin' to get there? The T-Car can only seat 5 people,” Cy asked. The Titans debated for 5 minutes, then it came to Cyborg and BB riding in the T-Car. Robin and Starfire were gonna ride on Rob's R-Cycle. Raven and Draco were gonna fly in his modified Banshee. Magnum and Jinx were gonna ride in Magnum's tricked-out Lotus. Once everyone was satisfied with the arrangements, and they all went to their rides.
Draco's POV…
As everyone was leaving, Raven and Draco walked up to the roof where Draco had parked the Banshee the previous night.
I wonder, Draco thought to himself, Do I like her as a friend, or more than a friend?
His conscience tried to help out, `Well, let's start from the top; how long have you known her?'
About four days.
`You think she's cute?'
Cuter than that Helljumper I hooked up with a while back…
`And how does she fell about you?'
I...don't know. I lost my ability to sense people's emotions a while back… After Maria was murdered. At the memory of the Helljumper who he cared for and her brutal death in a tough fight on his way to Earth, a familiar enigma tried to surface and take over Draco's thoughts, but he quickly suppressed it before anything noticeable happened.
`Well, do you think she likes you?'
Well, from what I heard from the others, she can't feel emotions, but I doubt that. No one cannot feel emotions unless they're brain-dead zombies, or under a spell of some sort.
`Well, why not get to know her better while you're at the club? You never know much about people unless you talk to them.'
Once we get there, then I will. I mean, I've failed here, those times back when I was younger, and with Maria, but who knows how things will go this time?
Once Draco and Raven got to the roof, Draco went to the Banshee and got out two green helmets that had reflective orange faceplates, put one on, took off his cloak and put in the storage compartment, and handed the other helmet to Raven. She accepted it, pulled down her hood, and put the helmet on. Draco got in the driver's spot on the Banshee and Raven sat behind him.
“Ya might wanna hang on,” he gently told her, via the COM link in the helmets, “it's gonna be a bumpy ride.” Raven nodded, and wrapped her arms around his waist as the Banshee's engine started up.
Raven's POV…
Raven just received the helmet from Draco and slipped it on—taking care not to get her hood caught inside or mess her hair up (if she even cared)---and managed to at least sit on the ex-attack craft before she heard him softly say to hang on. She nodded and wrapped her arms around his waist, guessing that riding his variation of the mini-aircraft would be like riding a flying motorcycle.
Wow, she though, He's so…warm!
`Uh, what do you mean `warm'? I thought you didn't like him!' her conscience asked her.
Since when do you decide on what I think? I can do things on my own ya know.
`Yeah, but isn't he the one that zapped the living hell out of you the other day? He seems to not even care about you, as if your reputation about being unable to feel emotions is starting to force you not to have a boyfriend, or have sex for that matter.'
Now that her conscience mentioned it, it did seem as though Draco didn't like her, and she started to tear up, but she stopped it before it could go too far. Her conscience also reminded her that if it's rumored that she can't feel emotions, love in particular, then she would never have a boyfriend--or have sex, making her a virgin for her entire life.
However, the Spartan did seem a bit nervous when she was around him. Even though he often said he's not distracted easily, he often ended up losing some game with the boys—but not by much. Most of all, he tried to be with her and sometimes he said he can a fun person to be around, and she remembered that he did want to be friends with her before the others, as well as more. She knew that if he was able to neutralize her powers, then he might be able to help her feel emotions freely again.
“Here we go!” Draco said over the COM, breaking her train of thought.
Then the banshee lifted off the ground, and started to wobble a little bit, making Raven “hug” Draco a little tighter, but he didn't notice, he was busy driving and checking the readouts on the HUD on the Banshee's dashboard. Once he was sure that everything was OK, he flew the Banshee towards where the others were, but he didn't know where the club was, so he asked Raven, “Do you know how to get to the club, Raven?”
She thought for a few seconds, then she asked if he had a map, and he pointed to the one built into the Banshee's dashboard. She took a few seconds to scan it and said, “There, right by the river!” and she pointed to where she was talking about, and Draco typed in a few coordinates, then an orange triangle appeared in their helmets, identical to the one on the map.
“What's this?” Raven asked.
“NAV points, we just fly in that direction, and we should be there in no time! Which gives me an idea…”
He opened up a COM link to the others, “Hey Guys, why don't we race there? It could be another test of some sort!”
After a few seconds of nothing, Robin and the other drivers responded, “Why not?”
Robin asked, “Where do we start?”
Draco replied, “Right at that stop light ahead, at 49th and Baker.” They all got there, and waited for the light to turn green.
“Why not raise the stakes a bit?” Magnum asked.
“How so?” Rob asked.
“By betting some money on the race? After all, I like things to have a purpose other than thrills (Except for hunting Draco…).”
“I'm in! How much?” said Cy.
“Collective 50. First one there gets the $50. Everyone pays something for a total of 50. Farther behind you are, the more you pay. Fair deal?” Magnum calmly said.
The others agreed, knowing the loser had to pay the most. When the light turned green, tires screeching could be heard, and everyone noticed they came from the Lotus when they saw the smoke from the tires. Everyone looked over, and they saw the car pull a wheelie all the way to the next light, and they didn't even move until it was out of sight.
In the Lotus…
Jinx was literally pinned to her seat, both from the speed burst and the seatbelt. She looked over to the driver, her boyfriend—and unknown to the Titans—her fiancée (I'll explain later), and asked him to slow down a bit. He did, rather grudgingly, once they were past the next light and out of sight from the others. As he did, the front of the vehicle came down, and bounced a little. After Magnum pulled off a power slide across the next turn or two, he slowed down enough so he'd be able to slip by a cop patrolling the streets, made another turn, and sped up again, much to Jinx's dismay as she was pinned to the seat again.
Pulling into the club parking lot, he did a 180 spin before stopping the vehicle in a parking space. He looked over to Jinx, who was shaking slightly, and put a hand on her shoulder to help calm her down. She looked back at him with a `don't-do-that-again!' look then smiled when Magnum leaned over and gave her an apologetic kiss. The two unstrapped their seatbelts, then Magnum pulled Jinx into his lap, and they started making-out like the lovers they were.
“Hey Magnum, where the hell are ya?” came over the car's speakers, recognizable as Draco's voice. The two stopped, and Magnum said into the walkie-talkie plugged into the radio, “I'm already there.”
“WHAT?!” came back as the response, and Magnum promptly switched the radio from AUX to whatever radio station he had before he switched it, and redirected his attention to his lover.
“Where were we?” he asked her. She blushed and pulled him back in for another uninterrupted make-out session.
Or, at least until the others arrive, she thought.
Back at the light; Raven's POV…
“You might wanna hang on Raven, lean forward as far as you can.” Raven's helmet had picked up the whole conversation, and readied herself for anything.
Then everyone else floored it, but Raven didn't expect an explosive take-off followed by a sudden and very steep climb, so she started to slide off, but Draco caught her with his powers, and used them to put her back in her seat.
“Try to stay as close to me as you can. Me may have to do that again. But don't worry, our current ETA, if we keep on a straight course, is 30 seconds.”
However, the T-Car was under them, and Cy opened the sunroof, and had BB aim and shoot the Proton Cannon at the Banshee, attempting to slow Draco down long enough to make him lose. The Banshee's underside was hit, but the aircraft's shields were almost too strong for the attack.
“So ya wanna try that huh? Well, let's see how long you last through this!” Draco called over the COM to Cy. Then on a private link to Raven, he said, “Ya might wanna hang on as tightly as you can, this is gonna be a bumpy ride.”
Raven nodded, but realized that her helmet's HUD was pointing to a button on the outside of the helmet, and she pushed it, activating the acknowledgement light.
Draco's POV…
After feeling the impact of the proton blast, he took a few seconds to warn BB and Cyborg about the shielding, he told Raven to hang on due to an oncoming bumpy ride. A blue acknowledgement light winked in his helmet, and he felt Raven's grip on his waist tighten, and unknowingly, her breasts starting to press against his back.
Whoa, she really trusts me, maybe she does like me. Wow! She's so soft…and has a really strong grip!
Raven caught that last part, and asked, “What was that?”
Draco was about to panic, but answered calmly, “What do ya mean?”
“You know what I mean, we can read minds, remember?”
Oh, shit! She must of read mine while I was thinkin'!
“I heard that,” Raven said, “And I did. What do you mean I have a strong grip?”
“Uh, you're about to break my spine!” Draco told her, relieved that she didn't hear the part about her being soft. Raven understood, and loosened her grip a tad, so he could breathe.
“Time to finish what Cy started…” Draco said, before Raven could ask any more questions.
He started his counter attack/assault by firing the Banshee's primary fire—the Twin Plasma Cannons—at the T-Car, and it started swerving side to side. Draco cackled as the driver tried to get away from him, completely forgetting to return fire.
Cy and BB's POV…
“What the hell is that bastard doing?” Cy yelled/asked over the COM with the banshee.
BB questioned in shock, “Plasma fire? I thought he said that his banshee couldn't fire anymore?” then he realized something, “That means he's able to shoot the Fuel Rod Cannon!”
“Right you are BB,” Draco said over the COM, “Just be careful if you wanna try to hit me, we don't have that much maneuvering room up here.”
Draco's POV…
After he had a little fun by harassing the T-Car with plasma fire, he over heard the conversation between the current occupants, and told them to be careful if they're going to fire back at them.
“Am I going to have to hang on as tight as I can again?” Raven asked Draco over their private COM.
“More onto the Banshee than me, you already have a death-grip on my spine.” he jokingly said, getting a small giggle from her.
By the time the T-Car and Banshee got 30 miles from where they started, they caught up with the R-Cycle, with Rob and Star on it.
“Sup down there?” Draco called over the COM with the R-Cycle. Star looked up, and saw the Banshee, and then she looked behind her and found the T-Car below it.
“Tell me we're close to the club that IDIOT up there,” Cy said over the COM while pointing to the banshee from the driver side of the car, “Keeps on hailing us with plasma fire!”
“Hey you're the one who started it!” Draco defended over the same COM as he took a few more shots at Cyborg.
“Well, we're almost there, Cyborg. A few more blocks and we should be there.” replied Rob.
“Hey Magnum, where the hell are ya?” Draco asked over the COM link with the Lotus.
“I'm already there,” he replied.
“WHAT?!” everyone yelled and asked in surprise. Then, everyone put petal-to-the-metal. However, Draco made another steep climb—Raven prepared for it this time—and got enough altitude to easily beat the others as he flew over all the buildings in a beeline to the club. Once he got there, he spotted the Lotus in the front parking lot, and after he did a fly-by, the R-Cycle and T-car came screeching into the lot, almost neck and neck. Robin's smaller ride provided him a way to get a small lead as he slipped in through the space between the T-Car and the wall with ease—scaring Starfire for a moment.
Once they all got there, they looked for places to park, but Draco had a difficult time because whenever he found an empty spot, someone would take it. He decided to look in the back, and found two empty spots next to each other, just the right size for the Banshee to land right. He realized that this is where the racers park, and that he earlier signed up for the race tournament tonight. So he parked, got off and helped Raven off, who almost fell off, but he caught her before she could fall two feet.
“Thanks,” she said.
“You're welcome,” he said, then he asked while taking off his helmet, “Did you like the ride?”
“It was…breathtaking,” she said while she took off her helmet. “I think that flying one of those things could double as a roller-coaster ride. It's definitely frightening enough.” Seeing the look on his face, Raven quickly added, “Not that I was scared or anything.” She felt herself blush slightly and sweat drop, but Draco didn't seem to notice.
“I know, the first time I flew one of those, I was screamin' my head off. I never wanted to fly solo with those until I got the hang of the controls. I had a little help from my personal AI while trying again. But when Magnum tried it, he went all over the place. I had to use my powers to get the thing under control. I oughta teach you how to fly it one of these days. I think you'll love it,” he said as they headed for the front of the building.
“I don't think so,” she coldly said, causing Draco to fall down anime style, causing a small dust cloud to form.
“OH, come on, please? It's easy!” Draco pleaded, making Raven giggle on the inside.
“Fine, but not any time soon!” she said with a small anime sweat drop on the back off her head. She quickly put her hood back up before he got up and led her by the arm to the front. Raven cleared her throat softly, and Draco let go of her with a blush on his face. She walked along beside him, winking at him when he was about to apologize, making him turn red and throw on his hood.
“I take it you don't know how to charm a girl?” Raven playfully asked, toying around with him while they slowly made their way to the front of the building. She barely noticed him shaking his head, but she pulled down his hood, just to try to embarrass him, but the action only made him do the same to her. Growling at him, she playfully punched his arm, and he retaliated, then she shoved him away when he tried to swing again. Soon they started chasing each other around, until Draco tried to dive at her. Unfortunately, Raven ducked and Draco slammed face-first right into a wall. He seemed OK, but Raven made sure. She noticed he was mumbling incoherently.
She held up two fingers and a thumb, trying to see if his eyes were focusing, but he said he saw eight. She sighed hopelessly, and before she brought her fingers down, she heard him mumble something about “a pretty blue raven”, so she—correctly—guessed that he was talking about her. Blushing, she shook her head while an idea formed in her head. Since he seemed to out of it to notice anything going on around him, she looked around for “witnesses”, and once she felt she was alone with the boy she had secretly fallen for, she gave him a quick yet tender peck on the cheek as she used her powers to bring him back to reality. After a few seconds, the half-dragon returned to normal, not knowing what Raven just gave him. Not trying to sound stupid—which is hard after you smack into a wall headfirst (I know from personal experience; #_@)—Draco asked if she wanted to go inside. Going along she nodded and they both finished their little walk to the front of the club, where the other Titans were waiting.
When the two got to the front of the building, they saw everyone else, but Cyborg was at the ATM next to the entrance. When he first went over there, everyone was surprise that he even had a bank account, but it made sense to them. Of course, BB was the only one dumb enough to say something.
“What are you doing that for? We don't need tickets or anything,” BB asked him.
Cy wickedly said, “Girls go fo' the man with the dough.”
“More like; `the man with a scam and thinks he's a ham, but gets nothin' but spam'!” Draco jested, making Cy stop where he was, and shoot his evil death glare at him.
“Watch it, before I halfta hurt ya.”
Draco walked up to Cy and said, “Well jeez, I figured ya had a sense of humor. After all, YOU STARTED IT!”
“WHAT! I DID NOT! YOU started it!” Cyborg yelled back. Soon the livewire and robotic teen were enveloped in Raven's powers, effectively separating the two before the fists started flying.
Draco calmed down for a second, and once Raven released the two, he said, “Sorry. Just tryin' to be funny. I mean, who doesn't appreciate a good joke every now and then?”
“She doesn't!” Cy said while pointing to Raven with his thumb.
“Actually, I do, I just choose not to laugh out loud. That doesn't mean I don't like jokes, it's just that BB tries to hard. That, and his jokes are rather corny as it is,” she defended herself, blushing slightly when Draco got in Cyborg's face. Luckily for her, no one noticed.
Draco simply told Cy, “Well, aren't you happy, “Mr. Roboto”. She says she likes jokes. Therefore, it must mean she has a sense of humor, proving that everyone has a sense of humor. What do ya have to say about that?”
Cy was only able to babble at that; no one's defended her before—and in that kind of way. After that was said and done, they walked over to the bouncer, Cyborg grumbling to himself as he walked in. As for getting in, the bouncer that stood guard looked familiar to Draco, but he didn't dwell on it as he and the others went through the gun-check—which took Magnum a while to do—and walked in. How little did they know that everyone was in for something special tonight!
To Be Continued…
A/N: OK, I know the thing with Mangum and Jinx is a bit confusing, but the Titans are unaware of what is going on between them. To clear up any confusion, the two are engaged. Draco knows about it, the Titans don't, yet. Back in Chapter 2, I made a small hint about them, as well in Chapter 3. The two will tell the Titans in Chapter 11 or so. OK, thanks for reading. (Lemons are coming up soon, stay tuned!)
