As she limped to the room, she heard the guys discussing her relationship with Kyohei. The thing was, Kyohei was sound asleep and could not hear a word of it. She was getting an idea what they thought of her though. Ranmaru gunning tor her to have a physical relationship and Takenaga complaining about how uncouth she was. Yuki was taking up for both of them.
Sweet Yuki. He's probably got a good understanding of what's going on. He has a feminine intuition, but is still masculine. I know he doesn't think of of women as objects like Ranmaru. He also tries to find the best in all situations. I wonder what they'll say when I come in?
“I'm back.” She announced. “Can I have a chair? It's a jungle downstairs with all of Kyohei's fans. They recognised me, thus my rosy cheeks and sore ankle.
“Are you alright?” Yuki asked.
“You should see the other girls. The police have been contacted and I'm pressing charges. I'm sure some of those people were involved with Kyohei's attack. I need to go to the ER to make sure I'm more or less ok, and for the police report. I wanted to talk to Kyohei, but it looks like he's resting.”
“How much of our conversation did you hear outside the door?” Ranmaru asked quietly.
“I heard enough to know that that Yuki thinks of me a lot higher than you and Takenaga do. Have you two ever really tried to understand me? I do have feelings, though I try to keep them under control. I will go back downstairs to the ER, if the police are looking for me.”
As she gathered herself back up again, she dropped of her crutches and it clattered to the ground, waking Kyohei.
“Quiet! I'm trying to recover here! Can't I rest?” He started. Then he saw Sunako. “What happened? Did you fall down outside? Are you alright?”
“I'm pretty sure I'm ok, but want to talk to you about this and a few other things alone.” She looked at the guys pleadingly and sat down again.
“We can take a hint.” Takenaga said. “Are the crowds the same as they were earlier? Perhaps, we'll get a snack. We need to call home and report off anyway.”
“It's been cleared once more, you should be safe. When I head to the ER, I'll stop by. Then you can return upstairs” With that the guys left for the elevator.
“I wonder what she has to say that she can't say in front of us? We're all friends, right?” Yuki asked.
“I'm sure that she wants to compare notes on what happened, and she's
embarrassed about getting in a fight. She was on the road to being more lady-like and then this happened.” Takenaga answered.
“Nope.” Ranmaru countered. “She NEVER wants to be alone with him. Something has changed with her attitude. I don't think that rosiness in her cheeks is completely from the fight. I think she might confess her feelings to him. Remember why she left to go downstairs to begin with? She had said that Kyohei found her beautiful, she gasped and left. She got into a fight with Kyohei's fan club, but we don't know why they attacked her. When we return, we'll find out I'm sure.” With that, they entered the cafeteria and got something to snack on. They went on to argue about what Sunako possibly could need to be alone for.
Meanwhile,Kyohei pulled himself up as best as he could and turned to Sunako. “Ok, what's going on? What's happened that you can't speak in front of the others?”
“I've done some thinking about how I feel about things and I've come to some conclusions. Before I go on any further I need to make sure you remember our conversation we had in Post-Op. If you don't, and it was the drugs talking, I don't need to discuss some of it.”
“Which discussion would that be?” feigning ignorance. “The state of friendship?”
“That would be the one. Were you serious when you said you'd like to be more than friends?”
“I was. If you are uncomfortable about it, I won't force you. You have enough people trying to make you do things. I don't want to be one of those people. I respect you for who you are. You won't flatter someone for your own gain, and see people how they are below the surface. You know that Takenaga is nice and polite, but he lacks passion. On the other hand, Ranmaru is way too passionate. Let's be honest, had you been a normal girl, he would have had you in his bed the day you moved in. He's admitted as much. Yuki seems to always be cheerful, but we all know that he has some real fears, like your room. I think you see me as rude most of the time, not to mention an imposition to your dark world. Most girls and women would kill to be in your position just because you live with four handsome men. The only reason being because we are handsome.”
“Well, let's discuss that momentarily. Let's put it this way, I didn't get hurt because of my sunny disposition. I bumped into your 'Fan-Club' downstairs. I bumped back, they look a lot worse and I'm pressing charges. The police will be looking for a statement and I'll have to be checked out downstairs.”
“You understand how crazy those bitches are now. I guess they want to take it out on you too. What provoked them?”
“They overheard something I sighed to myself. Perhaps it will clear things up a bit. I said 'I guess Kyohei does have a girlfriend.' Then all hell broke loose, it didn't go too far because of hospital security.
I'd like to see where this takes us, though I don't want the guys to be in on it. At least for a while. I want to take things fairly slow. The second we start getting really lovey-dovey, Auntie will shove us into a hotel room again. You know it's true. It seems that she's bribing Takenaga and Ranmaru with personal maids because I just appear to care about you. I don't want to imagine what she'd do if she finds out that we are truly a couple.”
“So, you'd like to see where things will lead then? “ He said turning to her the best he could, “You do know that I've never really had a girlfriend in the whole sense of the word. I really don't know what to do, but I'd like to learn with you.”
“I think you know better than you think. Remember when the guys were trying to teach me how to act on a date, and you stepped in to complete it? That was a blast! We were a bit overdressed, but I'd take takoyaki over foi gras any day. I almost think of our trips to the bath house when we were living together as little dates too. My favorite part being the fruit milk on the way home. I think we have a pretty close relationship already, we just haven't called it one. That's what I realized on the way downstairs. I was thinking on how crazy your fans were to be in the lobby, when I realized I haven't left your side since I got here. I must be your number one fan then. May I do something bold? I want to see what will happen if I give you a kiss on the cheek. I don't want a nosebleed, but I feel that I won't. I have to try.”
“I'd like that very much, but my face seems rather tender. Can I get a rain check? Just hold my hand, and be there for me. I promise, if things progress the way I think they will, you'll be getting plenty of kisses. Please, don't take this as a rejection.”
“I understand.” She said, slightly dejected. “I wouldn't want to cause you more pain than you already are. To think those crazy people did this to you because you like me. That's a heavy burden.”
“No! No! It's nothing like that!” He exclaimed. “Right here.” He turned his head, “This cheek doesn't seem to be as bad, just be gentle.” He smiled.
As she leaned over to give him a gentle peck on the cheek, someone knocked at the door.
“Ahem, Nakahara-san?” It was Officer Fuuma. “What have I missed in the last day? I thought she wasn't your sweetheart, but she sure seems like it to me.” He smiled. “I'm here as a follow up to the small riot you were involved with earlier. What happened? The ones you sent to the ER said you have a wicked temper. You managed to fracture one person's cheekbone, and cause a few other injuries. They said they didn't do anything to provoke you, but I've met you. You're fiesty, but I think you wouldn't be violent like that for no reason. I see you didn't come out completely unscathed.” He nodded toward the crutches. “ I need your statement, then you need to check checked out by the ER to check on that leg.”
“Sir, it was because of who I am. They are frustrated that I'm up here and they weren't allowed to be near Kyohei-kun. Someone recognised me and it was a free for all. I'm sure some of those involved today were involved with Kyohei-kun's attack. I will be pressing charges. I'm sure the guard can verify that what I did was in self-defense. I knew what they were capable of because of what happen to Kyohei-kun. I wouldn't have been so rough, but as much as I like him, I didn't want to literally share in his pain. So, I fought back.”
“Would you be able to go downstairs now? The ones involved have been removed, and I need to prepare my report. I can see that you're mostly unharmed, but the report will have more effect if we can get your injuries in the primary report.”
“O.K., I'll go. I be back as soon as I can. Will you be waiting here or in the ER for the report?”
“I'll be down shortly. I just want to check on Takano-san.” So Sunako picked up her crutches and headed out the door.
“So, what did I walk in on?” Officer Fuuma began to laugh. “Am I to assume that she's involved somehow? Is she the woman that you were speaking of when you got hurt? If the mob figured that out, she really is lucky. It looks like there may be some romantic connection between you two now?”
“Sir, please leave this aspect out if you could?” Kyohei pleaded. “We are discussing it, but things are complicated and we don't wish to have this as common knowledge. Don't tell the roomates and especially our landlady, Nakahara-sama. It would be welcome news, but please not yet.”
“O.K. Well, I need to finish all this up. If you need anything, you have my card. Good luck, to you both.”
In the cafeteria, the guys were trying to guess what was going on. They came to the conclusion that if they were meant to know, they'd be told. However, they planned to watch those two carefully to see if their relationship had progressed somehow. They knew that those two weren't very forthcoming in information. They called home and told Hanako that they expected to be home tonight, but were uncertain about Sunako. They told her that they'd call before they started home, and didn't wish for anything fancy. As they were finishing with Hanako, Sunako popped in and said, “It's clear, thank you.” She continued to the ER.
“Well, that was brief. I guess she just wants to get this done and over with.” Takenaga noted.
When they examined Sunako, they noted a bit of swelling on her ankle and lower calf. The doctor didn't have a good feeling about it, so he had an X-ray done. There weren't any broken bones, so didn't explain all the swelling though. On a hunch, he checked the blood flow to her leg and found she had the beginnings of a blood clot in her leg. He told her that she was going to be admitted to the General ward and be observed. She told him that she already had a room she was staying in, and that he could send the orders to the Ortho floor, because that was where she was staying. Needless to say, the doctor was flabbergasted. About this time, Officer Fuuma came in, asking for the injury report. He looked at the report and then at Sunako.
“Are you causing trouble down here?” He winked. “Doctor, I know I'm not in a position to tell you what to do, but do you know the circumstances to this injury?”
“Yes, she was pushed down and sustained soft tissue injuries to her ankle and calf resulting in a venous thrombosis. In other words, she has a twisted ankle and a blood clot. She's refusing to be admitted, and this can be life-threatening.”
“Doctor, I'm not saying I won't be admitted. I'm saying that I already have room I'm staying in. It's on the Ortho floor. I don't think it would be much trouble to let me stay there.” Sunako explained.
“Doctor, remember that riot victim you had the other night? The one with all the girls everywhere? This girl, is very involved in that. He was one of her roomates. She was injured by some of the same people who hurt him. I'd think you'd want to keep them together, so security isn't stretched more than it needs to be. The injured young man is stable and in Ortho in a semi private room as the only patient in there.”
“It's highly unusual, we don't tend to do Co-Ed rooming, but you say they are already roomates? O.K., I'll write the orders. Nakahara-san, stay off your feet. I'm giving you a blood thinner. Do you have any bleeding disorders we need to be aware of?”
