Chapter Three
Robin awoke sometime during the night. She had felt a cool breeze on her naked form as she slept, and that was what rousted her from her slumber. She shivered and pulled the blankets over herself, as it was more than just cool in the room.Right then, she realized that Amon was not beside her in bed. She sat up and looked around the room and at the bathroom door, searching for her missing man. She noticed their balcony doors were open, thus explaining the uncomfortable coolness she was feeling. She got out of bed and padded over to the doors, holding her bare body with her arms in an attempt to keep from shivering.
She found a naked Amon standing out on the balcony, leaning against the brick bannister that made the balcony. He was just standing there, looking out into the inky blackness of the night, his eyes scanning the lights of the city.
She stepped out on to the balcony, despite the coolness of the night air and went to the man’s side.
“ What are you doing out here?” She asked, felling her body shaking uncontrollably “ Aren’t you cold?”
The man, who had been just staring out at the darkness looked over at the girl. He draped his arm around her, and drew her into himself.
“ I guess I just was not sleepy yet.” He said, looking at the crafter girl lovingly. “ I just did not want to lay there, so I thought of some fresh air would bring the sleep on.”
Robin looked up at the man’s face and tried to read him. His voice seemed normal, yet she felt something was not quite right inside him.
“ Is anything wrong?” She asked.
“ No.... why?” He replied.
“ Are you nervous about our wedding we have planned at the city hall? On us having a baby? Us?” She asked in rapid succession.
The man just shook his head, as peered into the young hunters green eyes.
“ No to all of them...” He said with a smile. “ I am looking forward to our wedding, I am excited about having a baby with you and everything else.. There is nothing wrong!”
“ Really?” She asked, wanting to be reassured by the long haired man.
“ Yes.” He said calmly, hugging the girl to his chest “ Nothing is wrong.”
Robin just sighed contentedly, as his words calmed her fears. Robin looked up at the man, and give a little wink.
“ Let’s go back inside, Amon...” She said, her teeth beginning to chatter somewhat. “ I’m cold.”
“ You should not be out here naked in the first place.” He said, with a little chuckle.
“ You’re the one to talk!” The girl cheekily came back with, slapping him on the chest softly. “ Come on then, let’s get in where its warmer.”
The two returned into the bedroom, closing the balcony off to stop the flood of cool air in. They crawled back into the large bed and snuggled in together, trying to shake the chilliness from their bodies. Tucked in, they wrapped around one another and just layed there in the dark of the night.
Robin layed there for the longest time, trying to get back to sleep and not succeeding right off. Amon seemed to have finally found a way to fall asleep, and the girl layed there listening to his breathing.
Robin could not shake the feeling that something was not right with her man. Ever since they had finally gone out to the place where the microwave transmitter had crashed and exploded earlier in the day, the man seemed to be quieter. Amon had agreed with the Chief comment on the incident, which had said it might be the work of a witch, judging from the lack of explosive residue or any other explanation for the toppling. Even she had that same thought, looking at the twisted wreckage herself.
She calmed herself by knowing that the man was probably just wondering just what type of witch had this particular power to use. He had always been the one that was for how he approached a report like this, so this fit in to his way. That was all it was, she told herself.
The girl snugged tighter into the man, feeling the comforting warmth of the man’s large bare body on her unclothed form. She just decided that she was worrying way too much, and put a stop to her thoughts. She fell asleep after that.
The next morning, Robin awoke feeling surprisingly very rested. She turned over and found the man gone again. Looking at the clock, she saw that it had been turned off, and it was over an hour past when it was going to go off. She puzzled about why he had shut off the alarm on her like that.
She got out of bed and went into the front room, looking for the man once again. She found no sign of her man anywhere in the apartment, as it was still and quiet as the morning sun cascaded through the large window of the room.
She noticed that the laptop they had on a table near the window had been used, for it had been folded shut the night before. She checked the web directory, and saw that he had been on the SOLOMON site about forty five minutes ago. Probably checking the listings for the witch with the power, like she thought he worried about the night before.
Robin also found a folded note addressed to her, set right beside the laptop. She unfolded the paper and read it quicklt.
“ Robin: I have gone over to Nagira’s for awhile. We don’t have to be in to the office until one today for that SOLOMON update, so rest quietly. Amon”
She thought it was so nice, letting her sleep for awhile. Robin cracked a smile, as she felt so loved by the man, with him doing that. Robin giggled, she was feeling like she was very special.
Coffee suddenly crossed the girl’s mind, so she hurried into the kitchen to make a pot for herself. She just thought of sitting with the coffee and watching the news on one of the cable channels before readying herself for the upcoming day would be a perfect start.
Just finishing filling and turning on the coffee maker, a knock came at the door. Robin just looked at the door, and wondered who would be knocking at this early hour? She just hurried herself and grabbed a robe from just inside the door of Amon and her’s room and headed to answer it.
Touko was standing there, dressed kind of casually for a work day. Robin smiled at her friend.
“ Morning, Touko.” She said, finishing tying the robe closed.
“ I thought I did not see you with Amon, when he left this morning.” She said, smiling at the girl. “ I thought you might be sick or something, so I came down.”
Robin shook her head, but felt good that the lady had checked in on her like this.
“ He went to Nagira’s this morning, and just let me sleep in a little.” She said with a grin.
“ You have a day of like I do?” The woman said with a smile.
“ That would be nice, but no.” Robin said, giggling a little. “ We have to be in at one, so we have a little time to kill.” The girl paused. “ After I grab a shower, why don’t you come back for coffee?”
The lady smiled, as she looked at her young friend.
“ Sounds good to me.”
“ Give me fifteen minutes.” Robin said, with a grin.
“ I will be back then.” Touko said, adding. “ I’ll bring some pastries I have.”
Touko hurried off back to her apartment downstairs while robin closed the door and hurried to grab a shower. She was glad that she could have coffee with Touko, it had been awhile they had the time to do it.
An hour later, found Touko and Robin sitting at the kitchen table, sipping on the fresh coffee the girl had made and munching on sugary coated turnovers. They were just talking about simple things, like most people would over a coffee, not in any rush.
Robin’s communicator suddenly went off where it sat on the coffee table in the front room. The girl recognized the distinctive beeping that followed the ringing tones as her own personal code, that meant urgent.
“ They always call at the worst time.” Said Robin, hurrying to get her device.
“ It never fails.” Laughed the long dark haired woman. “ You get a spare moment to be with friends or just by yourself and... wham, work calls”
Robin answered it.
“ You have to get to headquarters on the double.” Said Michael, being short with his words.
“ Amon is not here...” She began to explain.
“ Just get here anyway you can.” Said the lad again. “ Chief Kosaku is calling for you.... so just get here.”
Robin sighed, as the lad’s voice disappeared from the device. What ever it was, must be important for them to not wait for Amon.
“ Guess I have to go.”
Touko stood up and put her coffee cup in the sink.
“ You just go, I will let myself out.” The woman said, hurrying and exiting without another word.
The girl sighed and wrote a note to Amon on a pad nearest the computer. She got her Vespa helmet out of the entrance hall closet and located the keys to her little treasure and headed out. She felt a little bit nervous, wondering just what the hurry was all about.
