Chapter Four

Robin arrived at the office in just over twenty minutes. Pretty good time for someone fighting the traffic on a Vespa, but Robin seemed to have a knack for handling the small scooter in any conditions.

She no sooner had arrived, than Chief Kosaku had waved to her, while Karasuma sat seemingly oblivious of her arrival.
“ I want you in the briefing room, ten minutes please.” He said, hurrying past to his desk, a cellphone plastered to the side of his head.

Robin nodded but was worried what this was all about. Without Amon here, she was nervous. Did they find out Her and Amon were getting married? Was that not allowed in the STN? Did the doctor break confidentiality and tell them she was pregnant? All of these questions, and more raced through her head al at once.

She groaned to herself, as she felt her stomach becoming very queasy feeling, and she did not know if it was her nerves, or the untimely onset of the dreaded morning sickness. Either one it was, she felt like she was going to throw up. Taking a deliberate deep breath in to her lungs, she fought off the feeling for the time being.

While waiting, she noticed Michael going into the room. She did not know quite what was happening, she only knew that it was important enough for her to be asked to come in without Amon at her side. She took another very deep breath, straightened the collar of her dress and went in, her head held high. She was not going to show the turmoil going on inside of her, not now.

The Chief was waiting at the very far end of the room, standing right next to the now seated Michael.
“ Come and sit in this spot, across from Michael here.” He said, his face showing all business.

She took the spot, feeling odd about it being usually Amon’s place in the room. She took the seat and held her breath, waiting to find out just what was happening.

The Chief got down to it almost immediately. He never seemed to mince words when he was in the mood that he was in.
“ We wanted to talk to you alone, without Amon here for a very specific reason, Young Robin” The man said, his voice seemingly totally without any inflection whatsoever to the girl.
“ About what, Kosaku-chan?” She asked, a little hesitant to ask the question.

A picture flashed on the monitor screen in front of here, as if Michael had gotten a signal from the boss.
“ Do you know who this man is in the picture?” The Chief asked.

Robin looked at the image and nearly gasped out loud, but held it in. On the screen, was the unmistakable face of Nagira that stared out to her. She felt her stomach tighten even more, that throw uppish feeling was getting stronger.

Robin looked up at her boss, and did not know what to say or to do right then. She did not want to reveal that she did recognize the man.

The Chief thankfully did not even wait for the young hunter to answer him.
“ This is Nagira Syunji, a Lawyer that has a very eclectic client base here in Tokyo.” The Chief said, as he had not even seen the young girl’s shocked face. “ He is the one SOLOMON thinks is either behind, or represents a witch, with the toppling of the Microwave Tower on the Tawari Mortgage Broker building the other day.”
“ How do they know that?” Said a very shaky voiced Robin, in disbelief. She knew the man well, and had never thought he would be even associated with anything like this, especially that he was Amon’s relative.
“ Past court records show he has a few represented witches just before SOLOMON had reports of these known witches awakening powers.”
“ Did they find out if Mr. Syunji knew of his clients’s awakenings?” Robin said, the only thing that had crossed her mind.
“ SOLOMON only suspects that he might have knew.” Was the only answer the man could give.

Robin nodded, as the man seemed to have taken a pause, right in then middle of his talking. This was not unusual for the STN-J head to do, but it was nerve wracking. Robin waited, scared at any other information this man had.
“ We know that Amon is friends with this man, but we have not found out just what the relationship is between them...” The STN Boss explained, now staring right into the girl’s face. “ I needed to talk to you, so you might go and poke around and find out anything, maybe figure out some of this Lawyer’s client list and just check out what Amon and this lawyer’s relationship really is.”
“ I don’t want to go behind Amon’s back...” Said Robin flat truthfully. “ You should ask him perhaps, Chief...”

The middle aged man just looked at the young craft user, his eye showing no sympathy for where he was putting her.
“ I know you are going out with one another, but this is part of an ongoing investigation.” Dryly said the man, his tone totally without empathy. “ Just poke around a little, find these things out without telling Amon, and the information will be forwarded to SOLOMON headquarters.” The man just stared at the girl. “ This is not a request... But it is an order, Miss Sena!” He began to walk off. “ Start off by going around this lawyer’s offices, the address to it is on the screen beside the man’s information.”
The Chief walked out of the room, not saying one more thing to the girl. Michael shook his head, his eyes locking on to the tawny haired girl’s.
“ I can’t believe him...” He whispered over to the girl. “ He want’s you to spy on Amon, and his friend. Even if it is needed, he could have asked Karasuma or Haruto to do this, and leave you out of it.”
“ I wish he would have, Michael...” Robin said, realizing that Michael did not have a clue that Nagira Syunji was Amon’s older half-brother. She decided to keep that from the lad for now.
“ How ever bad this order is for you....You just have to do it.” Was the only other thing the lad said to Robin.

Michael stood up and left the room, carrying a small bag of potato chips that he had stashed somewhere in the room. He did not even look back at the young girl, but headed back as quickly as possible.

Robin did not even know what to do. She felt like she was going to betray the man she loves, yet if she told Amon about this, who knows what the consequences would be if the STN and SOLOMON would find that out. They had her over a barrel, without any way of getting off of it either.

The SOLOMON speculation report would explain the unusual behavior Amon was exhibiting to some degree. She thought back to the laptop being on this morning, and wondered if Amon had also been on the computer checking the Witches lists and figured out there was a connection to his brother or the clients, and the tower, and had gone to prove or disprove it on his own.

She also could not fully forget the microwave exploding the other morning, only hours before the towers destruction had come. She had a feeling that it too, had some connection to this all. She also worried, that the connection was her one true love, and the father of her unborn child. All of these possibilities, no answers and she had to go behind Amon’s back as ordered too. Her head spun with all of it.

She stood up and headed out of the room. She got out to the main area and then had to race to the bathroom, as her stomach was alerting her to the fact that she might throw up at any second.

Minutes later, Robin was on her knees beside the toilet. The coffee and the few buns she had shared with Touko were gone from her system. All she could do now, was dry heave a little. Whether it was her stress level, or morning sickness, she wanted it all to stop. The thought of what she was ordered to so was bad enough, but this was just too much.

She soon was done, and she quickly flushed and cleaned herself up. She looked into the mirror over the sink, and saw her reflection there.
“ What am I going to do?” She said, praying to her reflection. The girl in the reflection seemed to not have any answers either.
She splashed more water on her face one more time, then headed back out to the main area. Her mind still dwelling on it

All of this, before ten thirty in the morning. Betrayal, sneakiness and secrets. What a way to start the day.
