Chapter Five

Robin and her Vespa were weaving their way through the traffic, honks and other sounds echoing off of the neighboring building and the smog getting a little thick as the heat began to rise steadily off of the warming pavement below her.

She was getting close to Nagira’s law office by then, her stomach was in knots. She stopped at a red light, waiting for the green to signal her to drive on. She could just make out the top of the building that housed Amon’s brothers business from where she was, and that made her stomach tighten even more. She took a deep breath, trying to mentally settle down her stomach, but it was not working so good.

As she waited at the light, a loud explosion shook the street like a mini-earthquake. Robin looked up and saw it had been somewhere near Nagira’s that the blast had originated. With the green light coming on, she gunned her scooter and raced down the street towards the office, her thoughts were only with Amon’s safety.

She found that it was the law offices that had sustained a blast. The door to the offices was laying out in the street, and thick smoke billowed out. Her fear gripped her.
“ Amon!!” She screamed, as she jumped off of the Vespa and ran to the now open doorway, her heart in her throat.

Once inside the building, she came upon Nagira’s secretary, laying just inside the second set of doors which had been blown partially off fo their hinges. The woman was a bit bloodied and blackened from soot and dust, but alive.

Setting to it, Robin helped the woman to her feet, herself choking on the acrid smoke that swirled around.
“ Amon and Nagira? Where are they.” She asked, as she helped propped the woman up as they moved as one to get out of the place.
“ Mr. Syunji had met with Amon earlier, then came back a few minutes ago, then left the office together again...” The woman coughed. “ I saw a bright flash at the back of the office, where our kitchenette is and then...” She coughed harder, wheezing with each one. “ then a large boom!”
“Anyone else in there?” Robin asked, looking back at the extent of the blast damage.
“ No, our other assistant is home sick today.” The Woman informed. “ I was the only one in yet, our temp we hired had not arrived yet.”

Robin felt relived to here that Amon was safe, as was Nagira. It was good that only the secretary was inside, it could have been worse... that she knew in her heart, and was grateful God’s grace
“ Where did they go?” Robin asked, knowing that things were secured.
“ The noodle restaurant down the road.” She coughed, giving the girl the information. “ They said they will be back later...”

Robin got the woman to where the paramedics had pulled up. She let the professionals handle the woman. She turned in the direction of where the noodle place was. Robin had ate there a couple of times when her and Amon had met his brother for a visit. On quickening feet, the girl raced down the street.

As she neared the place, she saw Amon and Nagira on the street, racing towards her. She felt a wave of relief flood her
“ Robin!!” Shouted Amon, as she headed straight to her. “ What the fuck happened?:”

The girl fell into his arms, and give a string of huge coughs. The smoke from the explosion had gotten to her even in that short space of time, she thought. The man wrapped his arms around the girl, as he strained his eyes to see what had happened up the street.
“ There was an explosion at Nagira’s offices.” Robin explained, as the coughing subsided some.
“ Oh fuckin’ god...” Said Amon’s brother, racing past the two and heading to his place.
“ Nagira....Mika seems just fine... Just some cuts and smoke, that’s what it looks like.” She called out to the man, coughing a little with the effort. “ Paramedics are tending to her right now.”

Nagira nodded, but kept going towards what was left of his law office. Robin accompanied Amon back there too, all were on a dead run, as they could smell smoke lingering on the breeze absent air.

The offices looked to be intact upon a closer look. Smoke still billowed out of the door to some degree, but the lack of any signs of fire was a good sign. The fire department was on scene already, making sure of that fact.

Nagira was with his secretary, making sure that she was alright. Robin and Amon checked out the scene a little closer.
“ I’d like to know what happened?” The long haired hunter said, looking at the soot covered front of the building.
“ I arrived a couple of minutes ago.” She said, still coughing some. “ I was joining you, after being called in by the Chief.”
“ What did he want?” Said Amon, looking at her funny.
“ Just a update on the Tower case.” She said, but inside she was hiding the Chiefs talk with her, to him like this. She had promised herself to be as truthful as possible without going against orders yet it did not set well with her. She hated that she needed to hide things from the man she loved.

Amon nodded, then looked back at the soot smeared building. Robin just stood there, arms wrapped around the man’s muscular girth, her mind flooding with questions for the man to answer for her.

A fireman with a captain’s flash on the helmet came out of Nagira’s building. Amon stopped the man.
“ I am with the STN... what is the nature of this fire’s origin?” He asked the firefighter
“ Looks like there was a power flux in the kitchenette area that blew a Microwave and a small microwave transceiver clean all to hell.” The man said, regarding the man with a curiosity. “ It exploded, but only heavily damaged the kitchenette but it’s smoke that has caused the damage to the other areas.”

The Fireman left, and Nagira came up to the long haired hunter. He seemed to have heard the little discussion with the fireman.
“ I think your right on this one.” Nagira said, then turned and walked off a little ways. He turned to say something else over a shoulder. “ All to right, I’d have to say, Little bro.”

Robin looked at the man, not understanding what Nagira was meaning by all of that.
“ What did he mean by that?” She asked, puzzled. “ Is it about the Tower case? Did you find a clue to this all?”

Amon just let the girl go all of a sudden, as if he was hit by hot water. He did not make an effort to explain anything, but looked off at the building again, his face very stoic in intensity.
“ Amon?” She said, wanting an answer from the man, any answer.
“ Just go home, I have to go with Nagira to help him with all of this.” The man finally said, not even looking into his lady’s eyes. “ I will come home later on this evening.”
“ Why?” She asked, her green eyes showing the amount that she was not understanding was great. “ Amon... ‘come on...what is going on?”
“ Just go home... I will come later.” He restated to the girl, this time a little more verbally forceful.

Robin took a step back, never having the man talk to her like that in a very long time. All she could do was stare at the man, she had no idea what was going on. The sick feeling in her stomach was growing once again, as her stomach knotted up again.

The man stepped around Robin, and headed to where his brother waited. With out another look to comfort the girl or anything, Amon and Nagira walked off together. The girl was left standing on the side walk.

Robin felt like she just had been brushed off in a way, as she watched the man get into his car with Nagira and the two left the scene. They left her with a sinking feeling that something was up, and it was not good. This made absolutely no sense whatsoever

She coughed a little, as she still was feeling the effects of the smoke in her. Now alone, she returned to her scooter and got on. Turning the vehicle back in the direction she had came from, she rode off, as the police arrived on the scene. She was glad of the goggles she wore on her helmet, they hid the tears that were coming from public view.

She headed back to the office, hoping that maybe Michael would be able to help her with what she was thinking. It was not too much, but it was all she had. Her stomach was now very tight, and she thought she might have to stop along the way to throw up.
