Chapter Five

Touko arrived home in the early evening. She opened the door and came in, humming a whimsical tune under her breath. She had a really good day for a Wednesday, but she was still glad to be home too.

Heading over to the kitchen table, she set down her purse and draped her coat over the back of a chair. She stopped dead where she stood, something was not right in the apartment to her.

The place was not dirty by any stretch, yet it was not as spick and span as it was kept. The early edition paper she had set on the table in the morning was not put in the recycle bin, and her morning coffee cup was still out. Other things that always were put away, were not. It was little things that were making all of it obvious.

Pondering for a moment or two, Touko just thought that Robin, who was the one who always seemed to straightened up the place, was late getting to work and she had not returned home yet.
“ She probably had to work late again.” Decided the woman under her breath, realizing that she was stressing over nothing.

She moved to the front room, thinking of catching a hour or so of television before going off to bed. The place seemed to be very still in the evening’s grip, but a soft sound wafted to her ear. It was a ghost of a sound, barely audible to her even in the quietness of the apartment, yet it was definitely there.

The dark haired beauty stood there quietly, trying to pinpoint exactly from where the noise was coming from. She looked around slowly, tracking the subtle sound hopefully to it’s source. She finally determined it’s source, as she found herself facing toward the closed door that was Robin’s room.

Silently, the woman walked to the door. She remembered her going in the girl’s room that morning, so was cautious to approach. She carefully put her ear near the door and listened, thinking that perhaps Robin was putting the ‘ little fixer’ to use again. That made her smile a little.

Touko listened , and she realized she heard soft crying on the other side, not the sounds of pleasure she had been expecting to hear. It was muffled, like someone sobbing into a pillow or something. Her heart sank, as she felt the sadness of the young girl through even the thickness of the wood between them. Something was bothering the young thing, that was all too clear.

She was going to go in and see just what was making this young girl so unhappy when she heard a word come from inside. That word froze Touko to the spot... It was one word that she knew well, and that was quite unmistakable to her. The word had came to her very clearly... Amon.

She just stood there, pondering every single reason that could be behind the girls so obvious distress, and what the man could have done to her for Robin to cry like this. It happened to be about Amon, she knew but just what, she asked herself.

She listened at the door, hoping the girl would keep on crying out the words to what was happening. After about twenty minutes, she had gotten no more information other that it had something to do with her ex-boyfriend. This all really disturbed Touko.

She went a few places with the ideas, yet nothing was connecting quite right. She knew about his over muscled sense of honor and his nearly criminal sense of right and wrong he had built for himself over the years. She decided whatever had made Robin, who was not prone to being so emotional as to collapse into crying yet actually break down like this, it was apparently has a lot to do with her unemotional former lover.

She moved away from the door, feeling like she just had to let the girl cry it out for the time being. Sitting down at the kitchen table, she began to pounder on what just might be happening. She knew deep in her heart, this was just not a teen thing, Robin was too mature for that. This was something that was hurting the young girl right down to her very soul.

After a hour, the door opened, and Robin came out of her room. Her eyes were red, and her hair and clothing were disheveled and very wrinkled. The tawny haired girl had a look of very deep exhaustion on her face.

The young girl stopped just outside the door, seeing Touko sitting there in the low light of the apartment.
“ I did not hear you come in.” She said with a shocked tone, forcing herself to stand up straight.
“ You didn’t here me, I know...” Touko commented. “ I heard you crying in your room for awhile.”

Robin’s jaw dropped in shock. She just stared at her roommate, unable to say one word in response. She just nodded dumbly, yet did not say anything.
“ Can I ask why you are so sad?” Touko said lovingly, her eyes looking at the red face of the girl.

Robin did not say a word, only shaking her head slightly in response to the lady. Her face was becoming more hard to read by the second. Her hesitancy was not missed by her now worried friend.
“ I heard you call out Amon’s name.” Said Touko after a minute of waiting, playing her hand to see if the girl would tell her. “ You can tell me just what did he do, to cause you such sadness?”
Again, the young girl did not say a word, but her eyes showed the deepness of hurt, and there was oodles of confusion for her too. All of this made Touko wonder, as it was apparent that Robin was not wanting to say what was going on, for now.
“ Very well.” She said, giving the young gal a understanding smile. “ I will respect that.”

Robin just struggled a small smile of thanks out to the woman, as she made her way into the kitchen. With a large glass of juice in hand, the young craft user headed back to her room, still not speaking one word. The woman just watched the girl go, wishing she knew just what had transpired.

Robin closed the door when she went in, not even turning back to say something to Touko. The apartment then fell very still once more around the very worried woman. She did not know why she was needing to know so badly, but something inside of her was telling her something.

The woman just sat, feeling alarmed over her young friend deep sadness. This was big, knowing her young roommate’s maturity level. It was not like the young girl to be so emotional, or to be so secretive within herself like this. She had to do something, but the question was just what to do.

Grabbing her coat, the woman acted on a idea that had just hit her. Somewhere in this big city of many million, would be a certain hunter man, who would be sitting somewhere pondering over the other end of this crap until probably morning. That was his usual way to deal with things, she knew this from dating him of and on for so long. This was her ace in the hole for doing something.

Having a idea of where he might be doing his hid and thinking routine, Touko headed out to face Amon, and to find out just what the hell was happening.
