Chapter 3- Things will now maybe make sense for the readers…I hope
Yugi ran out of the tent after he got dressed and hurried toward his grandfather and Ryou. The white haired boy was still giving Yugi odd glances and looks but Yugi didn't take any notice of it.
"So grandpa, where are we going today?" Yugi asked lively. Sugoroku smiled and mounted his horse.
"It's a pharaohs tomb. Actually, it was just found that it existed a few days ago. But it's a very odd one." Yugi mounted his horse as well and turned toward his grandfather.
"Why?" He asked.
"It's underground. Not in a pyramid or anything. But it's one of the hardest ones to get into because it's like a well." Yugi immediately stiffened. Ryou heard Sugoroku and hastily turned toward him.
"Where going in there!?" He bellowed. Sugoroku turned and nodded as if it was no big deal.
"Why, what's wrong boys? Something wrong?" Ryou thought then shook his head.
"No…no grandpa…there's no problem," Ryou said. He turned to see Yugi hanging to his horse's mane in a death grip, taking the news hard. Ryou trotted over next to him and put a hand on his shoulder. Yugi looked up and over at him. Ryou smiled weakly.
"Yugi…It's going to be alright. I think that falling in there yesterday just gave you a scare, that's all. I'm sure it's just a plain old pharaohs tomb." Yugi nodded slowly and slowly relaxed.
"I-I guess your right Ryou," he said quickly. "That place though…there's something more about it, can't you feel it…the pull towards that place?" Ryou starred and Yugi and slowly drew his hand off of his friends shoulder.
"Yes…" he whispered. " I do feel the pull, but what it is…well I really don't know either…but Yugi…" Yugi looked up at him. "If something is pulling us down there, don't you think that we should go down…I mean it just makes sense that way." Yugi nodded in agreement.
"But Ryou, what if we don't want to…what if it's something bad…something that could hurt us and others…what if-" Ryou cut him off.
"That's enough 'what ifs' Yugi! Think positive and good things while come before us! Don't think of all of the bad stuff, think of the good that can come out of by following that pull!?" Yugi just shook his head in response.
"Ryou…something good will happen if we go in there…but I have I feeling…that we'll awaken something much more…evil that we could ever imagine." Ryou starred at his friend in disbelief and bewilderment.
"I mean," Yugi continued on, "I always known that something good can come out of everything…but also, something bad can become awoken also. The dream I had last night Ryou, the nightmare…it was no ordinary dream, I could tell. There was a person there…I don't know who he is…but I think we may be able to figure out what it meant by going into this tomb and trying to find that person and hope that they can give us some answers." Ryou heeded carefully to what Yugi was saying.
"Then…why do you still call it a nightmare?" Ryou asked puzzled. Yugi sighed and ran his hand through his hair.
"Because Ryou, the man saved me from something. Something I wish to never see again…" Yugi said barley above a whisper. "I was terrifying and just so vile that it would make anyone's stomach churn." Ryou just nodded again and turned forward. He saw them coming upon the tomb. The young boy then turned back to his friend.
"Yugi…are we actually going in there…?" Ryou asked uncertainly. Yugi gazed at Ryou and dipped his head.
"Yes Ryou, no matter how much that I really don't want to…we have to. Can you feel the pull yet though Ryou?" Ryou nodded abruptly and straitened. The two soon had to come for a stop at the base of the tomb, or well as you may call it. Sugorku looked at them.
"Great you finally got here, now dismount and help us get the rope over the edge here." Yugi and Ryou nodded, trying to avoid the strong pull coming from the well. Each of the archeologist in Sugoroku's group was working excitedly, wanting to see what this new find had in store for them. Soon enough, the pulley was in place and the rope tossed over the side of the hole. Each man and woman climbed down on the rope to the bottom bellow. Ryou and Yugi stayed to go last with Yugi's grandfather. Sugoroku glanced toward them and smiled.
"Oh, it's nothin' to be afraid of boys. It wont be that scary," he chuckled. He jumped over and headed down. Yugi looked over the edge, shivering slightly.
"D-do we have to…?" He asked Ryou shakily. Ryou nodded, hopping over the rope and onto the edge of the hole.
"Yes Yugi, we do. Now common lets go!" Ryou slide down the rope down into the darkness of the tomb. Yugi grabbed the rope and followed suite, sliding as fast as he could down the rope to catch up with everybody. He soon felt his feet hit the ground and looked for the rest of the group. He saw the flicker of a light from the down one hallway and ran down that way. When the young violet teen saw everyone standing at an entrance he slowed to a stop.
"Hey, why did everyone stop?" He asked breathlessly. Ryou turned toward him and motioned to the area in front of him. Yugi looked passed him and gasped. Ahead of the group was a huge room, the ceiling almost so massive you could barley see the top. Colossal stone pillars will enormous hieroglyphics written on each one stood in lines throughout the chamber. The floor was pure stone and didn't look like any human being had ever walked on this flooring before. A great doorway stood at the end of the great vastness of space. Every archeologist stood in awe of this striking grand room. Yugi slowly examined every inch of the grand hall. Sugoroku turned to the other archeologist's.
"Come one everyone! Lets go before we gawk to death in this room!" Sugoroku said brightly. Many of his teammates laughed at his cheesy joke and pick up their materials and headed off into the room. Yugi and Ryou trailed close behind Sugoroku as he walked in front of the group. They traveled down the room to the massive doorway at the end. Sugoroku and others gathered at the base and started to translate the hieroglyphics on the door.
"Beyond this door lies treasures of more. Only of a two few on this earth can enter here and come alive again! If thee is not on of thee chosen two, they must perish into the darkness realm to never reveal the treasure that lies inside…" Sugoroku read off the writing.
"Sounds like some sorta curse," Yugi said, listing carefully to what his grandpa was interpenetrating for the rest of the group. Sugoroku laughed.
"Oh Yugi! There's no such thing as curses in these tombs! There only there to scare away tomb robbers!" Yugi nodded, still unsure the riddle was true or not. One of Sugoroku's friend walked over to him.
"Sugoroku! Come here, I think you should read this…" The older man walked to his friend to read what he wrote.
"Read it out loud!" Said his friend.
"A great battle fought in the past, to come about in the present, for time can repeat the battles of a past. To open these doors, heed not what will come after, for it will be grieving and corrupt. The world will fall if the two ones do not enter when the doors are opened. If thee are present though, the king will rise to rein over this earth, and the robber to be against him though time will change both king and thieve. Heed this writing, if you are not thee two one's, then not open these door! Beware of the ancient evil by the great name of…" Sugoroku stopped. He looked up at everyone else.
"The name was cut off," said Sugoroku's friend. He nodded and turned toward the door.
"It clearly stated not to open it…but we've come to far to back down now. Anyway curses do not exist and nor can any thing from 3,000 years ago be alive today. Let go everyone!" The rest of the group nodded while Yugi and Ryou shared worried glances.
"Ryou…something wrong…" Yugi whispered to his friend. Ryou nodded.
"I know…I think that this curse is real…too real as a mater a fact." Yugi nodded in agreement. He looked toward the archeologist who was now opening the door.
"I guess we have to go in if everyone else if going to…" The first few walked in, brave enough to see if the curse was real. The rest of the group stayed back, only going in if it was signaled safe and clear of any traps. Yugi and Ryou walked to the doorway. Feeling the immense pull from this room even stronger then before. The brave ones walked slowly on the bridge leading over to the other side, where an altar laid. They were fine so far, until the one fearful person took of running, wanting to be off of the small archway soon. From below their feet the ground shook and a tablet at the end rose up. Many gasps were heard from the group and a monster appeared before them. Many people started running back but another monster came and lurched at them. Yugi and Ryou were wide eyed and turned away when a scream was heard from the man in the monster's mouth. Yugi turned back around to see every man and woman gone in an instant. Then on the altar, two shinning objects glittered and shone out to the men and women of the crew. Yugi gasped as the great pull that he and Ryou were felling were from the strange items. Yugi just couldn't help but move forward slightly, the items tug toward him dragging him forward slightly. Soon the rest of the people around him vanished. He could see the item, gazing at it…just needing to have it for his own. Yugi stepped forward, toward the treasure that was calling out to him. Sugoroku glanced at his grandson.
"Yugi..?!" He asked warily. "Y-Yugi…where are you going?" Yugi could not here him. He walked through the doorway, toward the altar, onto the bridge that half of the archaeologists died on. Sugoroku's eyes widened.
"Yugi!! Yugi what are you doing!?" He yelled to his grandson. Then he felt a body pass by him as Ryou entered onto the platform as well. Sugoroku stepped into the area to stop his grandson and his friend but a monster appeared at the front of the doorway, not allowing him to help his grandson if he or his friend got hurt.
Yugi was in a trance like state. He had no idea what he was doing, all he know of now was to get to the end of the bridge and onto the altar. He soon reached the golden stairs leading up to the items above him. Yugi looked up, his eyes showing no emotion. Ryou walked up next to him. The powers of the items were overpowering the boys, not releasing them until they took what was rightfully theirs. Yugi climbed the steps one by one until he was upon the items that were guarded to greatly by this tomb. Yugi reached out for the box, griping it in his pale hand taking it off of the mantel that it was set on. Sugoroku saw Yugi take and he tensed up.
"Yugi, no!!! Don't take it!!! YUGI!!!" Still unaware of every presence in this room except for him-self Yugi slowly turned, holding his treasure tightly. Ryou following suite as he grabbed the large golden pendant. Each of these objects were similar except for the way they were shaped. Yugi's was a golden box with hieroglyphics written all over it and an eye in the middle of it. Ryou's item showed many similar qualities. His was round and had five pointy pendants hanging off of it like a dream catcher. It pure gold just like Yugi's, just not in a container of any sort. Yugi suddenly blinked and looked up, just noticing where he was, seeing his grandfather on the other side. A sweat drop formed on his face.
"Umm…Ryou…how did we get all the way over here? Ryou?" Yugi looked over to see Ryou high tailing back toward the others. Yugi quickly ran after him. Sugoroku starred at his grandson and Ryou.
'How…how did those two get passed there…' he thought. Then his thoughts quickly went back to the inscription on the door. 'Only of a two few on this earth can enter here and come alive again! If thee is not on of thee chosen two, they must perish into the darkness realm to never reveal the treasure that lies inside…' Sugoroku thought again.
'That means that…my grandson and Ryou…are those two!?' He was quickly yanked out of his thoughts when Yugi and Ryou ran out of the chamber and through the door.
"Yugi, Ryou!! Oh thank heavens you two are alright!" Yugi ran over to him, panting heavily from shock.
"G-grandpa…what just happened…?" Yugi asked, quivering slightly. Ryou stood next too him, un-consciencely clutching the treasure from the altar. Yugi stood in front of his grandfather, also holding his golden box.
"I don't know Yugi…" Sugoroku answered. "But are you two alright?" Yugi nodded slowly, as did Ryou.
"Yes…fine, were fine. Just…a little freaked is all." Yugi answered, then looked down.
"Hey…what's this!?" Yugi exclaimed looking at the golden box in his hand, just becoming aware of it. "Ooh…I wonder what's inside…?" Sugoroku stared at his grandson then leaned over to him.
"Yugi…may I see that for a second please?" Sugoroku reached for the box, but Yugi whipped around, starring at him. His eyes melted from a pure violet to a blood red, his eyes narrowing and his face twisted up in a devilish menacing way.
"Get the hell away from me!!" Yugi shouted, slightly growling at Sugoroku. The older man took a step back, scared by his grandson's appearance. As soon as it came about though, it was gone and Yugi slowly moved back. Sugoroku stepped toward him, but Yugi didn't go near him or anyone else for that matter. Then his eyes dulled and he collapsed onto the ground. Sugoroku looked over to Ryou and saw him drop too. He then ran over to pick Yugi up. Sugoroku grabbed the box and tried to take it out of his hand but Yugi wouldn't let go. He held onto it tightly, not daring to let the item out of his grasp. Sugoroku didn't know how his grandson could have such a tight hold on the box, but he decided to look into it for what it was later. The older man gently picked the young boy up and walk to the exit of the tomb, hoping that what these two boys found and took wouldn't affect there lives for the worst…more of less, Sugoroku just hoped that curses really were not true.
