Chapter nine: Silly antics and neglection

"Holy…shit!" The blonde cursed, staring at the light blinding him blankly. Aria skipped into the room and saw the light. The small girl stopped and turned to Jonouchi.

"What's that mommy?" she questioned, shielding her eyes and standing next to him. Jonouchi shook his head, blinking suddenly and seeing bright colors in front of his eyes. He opened his mouth and no words seemed to come out, he was frozen by a panic attack.

"Kaiba!" he yelled when he found his voice.

"What?? What happened?" Kaiba demanded, running in within the next 5 seconds.

"The beacon Mr. Kaiba!" Aria exclaimed, hopping around Jonouchi trying to catch the spots in her eyes.

"What about it?" Kaiba faced away from the light abruptly and saw Jonouchi rubbing his eyes.

"The beacon…" the blonde mumbled, collapsing to the floor and passing out.

"Mommy??" Aria asked worriedly.

"Jonouchi?" the CEO asked as well, kneeling down next to him and checking his pulse. It was fine. Just then there was a knock at the front door.

"I'll get it!" Mokuba's voice resounded throughout the mansion. A few minutes later he called, "Onii-chan! It's for you!"

"Watch Jonouchi for me," the brunette said to the little girl and walked down the stairs and into the main hall. He saw two policemen standing just inside the house with Mokuba next to them.

"What do you want?"

"Mr. Kaiba…your house has been targeted," one of the policemen stated simply.

"…What?"

"The beacon. It shines directly to your house, particularly, a certain window. May we go upstairs to check?"

"Uh…sure," Kaiba said, watching the men walk briskly up the stairs. "What does that have to do with anything?" He asked Mokuba.

"Well this crazy guy on the news left a note that said `The beacon will show the way at sundown'," Mokuba explained. "I didn't think the beacon would shine on our house though."

"This is nonsense!" Kaiba growled, marching up the stairs to find the police in Jonouchi's room. They turned to face him.

"Mr. Kaiba, this young man is the suspected victim of the kidnapper's next attempt. We need to place maximum security around this house."

"Do you think I don't have that already?" the CEO snapped, "I'm THE Seto Kaiba, what makes you think I don't have guards and hidden people everywhere?"

"We're sorry sir," the policemen bowed, "but you must not allow this boy out of the house."

"He has amnesia, he was hit by a car," Kaiba replied, "He isn't going anywhere."

"I'm sorry to hear that. Just keep him in your sight at all times, thank you," the policemen nodded and walked out the door. Kaiba heard the front door close a minute later. He mumbled something incoherent and turned to see Mokuba in the doorway.

"What was that about Seto?" Mokuba asked, with a clueless look displayed on his round face.

"They think Jonouchi is going to be kidnapped," Kaiba replied, glancing down at the blonde who was still unconscious and not responding to Aria.

And I won't let that happen.

"Kaiba…" Jonouchi moaned, turning on his side. The CEO was caught by surprise -- that was a first! He knelt down next to the blonde and brought him into his lap awkwardly. Mokuba motioned for Aria to come to the door and took her into his room to play, leaving the two men alone.

"Jonouchi?" the brunette asked softly, shaking the blonde gently.

My heart is beating so fast…what is this feeling? I shouldn't feel this way…is this wrong? Is liking Jonouchi…really that bad?

Jonouchi's eyes fluttered, and his hand found Kaiba's and gripped it tightly.

He's holding my hand…it feels nice…but this isn't right! He doesn't remember me at all! I can't do this…

"Kaiba…" the blonde whispered, opening his eyes slowly and staring at the floundering CEO.

"J-Jonouchi…" Kaiba stuttered, then, regaining his composure, "what happened?"

"I don't know…I guess I was so panicked I passed out…" Jonouchi said, thinking it over.

"Well, since you are apparently a victim of some screwed up plot, you aren't allowed out of the house," Kaiba said, "and I'm staying home from school to watch you."

"W-what?" Jonouchi stuttered, taken aback by the CEO's comment, "stay home from school?"

"Yeah, not like I need it anyway," Kaiba replied, taking on an arrogant tone. Jonouchi laughed and sweatdropped. Kaiba had a point, he was a genius and school was just boring. "So," the CEO abruptly scooped Jonouchi into his arms, "off to bed you go."

"Kaiba!" Jonouchi protested, struggling in the brunette's strong and firm grip, not really wanting to be released. He giggled and then Kaiba started giggling awkwardly at first but then getting more comfortable, not letting the blonde go and falling onto the bed with him.

"Yami!" Yugi called out, searching the house for his boyfriend. Him and Ryou just came back from an after school club and he couldn't find his yami anywhere. He walked into the family room and saw Yami sprawled out on the couch fast asleep with the news on the TV.

Poor Yami,

Yugi chuckled to himself, shutting the TV off and pulling a blanket over his other half. He picked up a deck of regular cards and proceeded to play solitaire on the soft blue carpet. Soon his attention was off his yami and it just so happened that Yami had decided to wake up a few minutes after, blinking tiredly and sitting up, spotting Yugi. He took one look at his hikari, smirked devilishly and got off the couch silently and snuck up behind him.

"Gotcha!" he whispered, pouncing on his light and hugging him tightly.

"Yami!" Yugi gasped, landing on his solitaire game, "You ruined my solitaire game!"

"You can start over," Yami kissed him, "later. Much later."

"You're so funny, Yami," Yugi giggled, kissing his yami back.

"I know, you love it," the taller boy answered with a smirk. Yugi giggled again and nodded, poking his yami's nose playfully. "You are too cute," Yami whispered into the small boy's ear, nipping at it gently causing a yelp from the latter boy. "Does my hikari like that?" Yami smirked again, repeating it.

"Yes…I love it," Yugi said breathlessly, holding his yami close. Yami placed a kiss on his hikari's ear, and trailed gentle kisses all the way down to the nape of Yugi's neck, leaving his hikari silently begging for more. He was about to button the first button of Yugi's shirt when the phone rang.

"Ra-damn phone!" Yami cursed, reluctantly getting off of the small boy and marching over to the phone. "Hello?"

"Oh, it's you pharaoh," Bakura's voice floated over from the other line.

"What are you so smug about?" Yami snapped, not believing Bakura interrupted them, out of all people.

"Would you like to go the park, yami's and hikari's?" the tomb robber asked, ignoring the former pharaoh's question.

"Yes we would," Yami replied, containing his building annoyance, "when?"

"Now, I'll see you there," Bakura answered and hung up. Yami stared at the receiver for 5 seconds.

"He hung up on me!" Yami exclaimed and muttered a few choice words that will not be said here. "Yugi!" he called over to the other side of the room.

"Yami, I'm right here, what?"

"We're going to the park. Right now." The taller boy walked over and picked his hikari up into his arms, and walked out the door with the small boy protesting half-heartedly. Yugi always enjoyed the feeling of being carried around like a child, and snuggled against his yami happily.

"But why are we going?" he finally managed to ask halfway down the street, ignoring everyone's stares as they walked by.

"Bakura invited us, no doubt Ryou's idea," Yami replied, glaring at the people who passed by and letting Yugi down.

"Aw, I like it when you carry me," Yugi pouted cutely, making the former pharaoh want to hug him and squeeze him into tomorrow. It was all he could to do resist his aibou standing in front of him with that irresistible look. The small boy laughed and took Yami's hand, leading him to the park.

He's always so happy. I wish I were as carefree and energetic as he is.

Yami smiled along with Yugi and they arrived at the park in no time. They immediately spotted the look alike Ryou and Bakura sitting together on a bench and waving. Yugi waved back and pulled Yami over to the couple, a little more energetic than he needed to be.

"Hey, Ryou! Long time no see!" Yugi exclaimed, letting go of Yami and throwing himself at the thin boy, hugging him tightly.

"Hello Yugi," Ryou chuckled, patting the tri-colored haired boy on the back, "Nice to see you too."

"Pharaoh." Yami glared at the spiky-haired boy in front of him.

"Tomb Robber." Bakura gave the same glare back, a smirk twitching at the corners of his lips.

"Guys, stop trying to glare yourselves into oblivion all the time," Yugi sighed, "can't you just all get along?"

"No," Bakura remarked, smirking.

"He always starts it," Yami mumbled, rolling his eyes at Bakura.

"This is supposed to be a fun day!" Ryou said suddenly, pulling out a picnic basket and a tablecloth, "we brought a few snacks for everyone, didn't we `Kura?"

"Yes, we did," Bakura nodded, licking his lips hungrily. Ryou set out everything they bought, ranging from a simple block of cheese to chips and some dip he had made himself and other assorted foods that Bakura managed to stuff in before they left.

"Thank you Ryou!" Yugi exclaimed, digging into the food immediately.

"Excuse him," Yami coughed, slowing his aibou down so he didn't choke. Ryou just laughed and Bakura started eating just as fast as Yugi was.

"My, everyone is hungry," Ryou giggled, and took some food in between the apparent ravenous attack of the yami and the hikari.

"Yugi! Drink some water before you choke!" Yami exclaimed, handing his hikari a glass of water that the small boy gulped down and continued eating.

Yami is always so considerate towards Yugi…

Ryou thought to himself, watching Yugi eat his way through the food and Yami chasing him with a small smile.

I wish `Kura would care for me like that.

"Hey, Ryou! Come on! The food is disappearing before your eyes!" Bakura called, munching his way through a bag of Doritos.

"Okay!" he called back, making his way over and snatching a tiny bag of popcorn and retreating to the other side of the blanket.

No one really wants me…do they?

`Of course not' a voice inside his head answered.

What?? Who are you?

`I am your other half…the side of you that wallows in despair and regret.'

You're kidding. Bakura is my other half not you, whoever you are!

`Bakura.' The other voice chuckled. `Bakura doesn't share your soul anymore. He has separated from you forever. Can't you tell he is slipping away from you?'

No…you're wrong! Bakura loves me! He would never leave me!

`You'll soon see…what I'm talking about…'

Get out of my head!!!!

Ryou punched himself on the head without thinking and fell over.

"Huh? Ryou?" Yugi crawled over to his friend on the other side of the blanket; "Are you okay?" he leaned over and poked him for emphasis.

"Yeah, just fine," the white-haired boy mumbled, watching Bakura absorbed in his food and remembering what the voice said.

I really hope that's not true…

"H-hey, Kaiba?" Jonouchi asked, snuggled up against the brunette on his bed, breathing hard from their antics that went on after they fell onto the bed. Throughout the whole thing, the blonde found two of Kaiba's critical ticklish spots and the perfect way to get his guard down.

"What, Jonouchi?" Kaiba asked, not breathing as hard as the other but sat there with a smile tugging at his lips.

"Thanks," the blonde nodded to him and closed his eyes.

"Your…welcome," the CEO responded, stroking the blonde's hair gently and staring up at the ceiling. He realized he must have zoned out because a little while later he realized that Jonouchi had fallen asleep.

"Seto?" Mokuba asked quietly, cracking open the door a tiny bit and poking his head in. He smiled when he saw the two in the position they were in.

"What, Mokuba?"

"Aria took a nap in my room…ah Jonouchi is sleeping as well," the small boy chuckled.

"What a tired family," Kaiba commented, smirking and taking his hand off of the blonde's hair hurriedly, even though he know his little brother had noticed it. Mokuba nodded and winked before closing the door again.

What? Why did he wink? Does he really think…no he couldn't! Not like that! He has amnesia! I can't…I couldn't…I have to get his memory back somehow!

And so as Jonouchi was sleeping blissfully unawares, Kaiba tried to devise a devious plan to bring the blonde's memories out of the shadows.

It involved some scissors, a turkey, and some blue plastic silverware.
