…Under The Same Roof…

"Where to?" Kaiba asked after Jou had gotten comfortable…or as comfortable as anybody can get in a complete stranger's car.

Jou gave Kaiba a curious look and then said slowly: "Um...anywhere I guess."

Kaiba gave Jou a quick glance before turning to his driver and saying with authority: “To the house.”

Jou didn't say anything. The atmosphere around him was very tense and Jou thought it was best not to speak until they were out of the car and somewhere that was more spacious.

Jou looked with wide eyes as the limo approached a very large house that was decorated very expensively. Jou was almost scared to even look at it. Once the limo came to a stop, the chauffeur opened the door for Kaiba but of course didn't do the same for him.

Jou was surprised though when Kaiba opened the door for him and he unsurely stepped out of the car and walked behind the brunet until they came in front of the two large doors. Kaiba turned the knob to reveal an extravagant room filled with beautiful furniture and priceless objects.

"This is we're you'll be staying for now," Kaiba said and then held his hand up when he sensed Jou's protest coming on.

“No arguments,” Kaiba said sternly.

“But—“

“No!” Kaiba said giving Jou a cold glare which silenced the boy once and for all.

At that moment, a raven-haired youth with dark eyes came running down the carpeted stairs.

"Brother, you're home!" the boy said excitedly.

"Hello Mokuba," Kaiba said and then motioned towards the blonde standing beside him. "This is Jou. Jou this is my bother, Mokuba."

Mokuba tilted his head at his brother and then a smile overcame his features. "Hello Jou!" Mokuba said happily.

Jou's face gave off an extremely puzzled expression. Mokuba shouldn't be able to see him. Suddenly nothing made sense anymore.

"Hi," Jou replied back nonetheless.

"Mokuba, can you show Jou up to one of the guest rooms?" Kaiba said looking down at his brother.

The smaller Kaiba just nodded and then excitedly beckoned for the tall blonde to follow him. Jou complied and was led up half a dozen stairs and a few hallways before he came face to face with a large brown door.

Mokuba giggled at Jou's astonishment when he swung open the doors.

"This is a guest room?!" Jou said as he scoped the enormous room with his honey brown eyes.

"Yup!" Mokuba said triumphantly as he walked alongside Jou into the room.

After Jou searched the room, he walked over to the king sized bed and sat down with his hands still dug deep into his jacket pockets. Mokuba on the other hand was leaning against the dresser with his eyes fixed on the other boy.

"There's something...different about you..." Mokuba said suddenly.

Jou scratched his head. "What do you mean?"

"I don't know," Mokuba said honestly and then with curious eyes added: "But something's up and I want to know what."

Jou sighed and then took a nervous glance around before giving Mokuba a serious look. "Okay, but if I tell you will you promise not to tell anyone?"

Mokuba shook his head up and down eagerly and then moved in closer to Jou when the blonde began to whisper.

"Well, I'm not really all that real," Jou said struggling to find words that wouldn't sound so crazy.

Mokuba raised an eyebrow at Jou's remark. "You mean you're not human?" Mokuba said with a disbelieving face.

"No, no...I mean I am human...or was anyways. I'm kind of…well a ghost, I guess," Jou said.

Mokuba's eyes widened incredulously. "You're a ghost!?"

Mokuba's scream was so loud and alarming that Jou fell of the bed.

"You have to say it a little louder; I don't think they heard you in Australia!" Jou yelled sarcastically from the floor.

"Sorry," Mokuba said with an embarrassed blush and then reached out a helping hand for Jou but when the blonde's hand tried to clasp on to Mokuba's, the smaller of the two didn't feel anything. He didn't feel warmth, or a pulse, or a solid surface. He didn't feel anything at all.

"You really are a ghost!" Mokuba said quietly but nevertheless in shock.

"Yeah but please don't tell Kaiba," Jou said helping himself up.

"Okay but I want to know everything. If you're a ghost then why can my brother and I see you? And have you always been a ghost?" Mokuba asked sitting on the bed.

Jou took a deep sigh as he took a seat next to the small boy. "It's kind of a long story but to make it short, me and my three friends use to be regular teens until one day, my friends and I found these four items. They were called Millennium items and, unknown to us, they were tainted with a curse. So when we touched them, that curse was put upon us. So now we have to roam the world forever."

Mokuba looked disheartened. “That's so sad. Is there anyway to break the curse?”

"Well, it's kind of cliché, but the curse can be broken if we can learn to love somebody and be loved in return. And when that happens we'll turn into humans again. Right where we left off," Jou finished.

Mokuba took a deep breath as he took in everything that his new friend was telling him.

"So," Mokuba said, "Can everybody see you?"

"No," Jou said. "Every century a handful of people are born with the ability to see us. This way, my friends and I have the chance to fall in love with these people and vice versa. But I have to say that it's been over 1000 years since we were turned into ghost and I'm starting to lose hope in ever finding someone." Jou finished the last part with a hint of sadness in his tone.

Mokuba instantly shot to his feet. "Don't say that! You and my brother can fall in love!"

Jou flushed pink at the suggestion. "Mokuba I highly doubt that. Your brother doesn't seem like the loving type."

"Nonsense!" Mokuba insisted. "He just needs someone to love is all. Just like you!"

Mokuba ran over to the door and said: "I won't stop until I get you two together, just you wait and see!"

Jou laughed. "Okay, well until then you should get to bed. It's getting late."

Mokuba smiled and said: "Aww look your already acting like my brother-in-law."

Jou blushed again and gently shoved Mokuba outside the door and told the smaller boy to get to bed. After ridding himself of his new friend, Jou fell back onto the soft bed and thought about what Mokuba had said to him. Kaiba could never be the one for him. At least, he didn't think so. With thoughts of the brunet on his mind, Jou fell fast asleep.

On the other side of the house, Kaiba was at his desk in his office working on his laptop when the door creaked open. The brunet didn't even have to look up to know who it was.

“Yes Mokuba?” Kaiba said keeping his eyes on the small keys in front of him.

Mokuba quickly ran up to his big brother's desk and leaned over it. With a bright smile, the smaller boy said: “Whatcha doing?”

“Working,” Kaiba answered.

Mokuba continued to smile. “So, Jou is really nice. I really like him.”

Kaiba didn't respond and Mokuba decided to keep talking. “He's pretty good-looking too. You guys would be perfect together!”

Kaiba finally looked up at his brother and sighed as he closed the laptop. “Mokuba, don't even start.”

“What do you mean?” Mokuba said innocently.

“You know what I mean,” Kaiba said impatiently. “You're always trying to get me together with other people and how many times have I told you not to interfere with my love life?”

Mokuba frowned angrily. “You don't have a love life! That's why I'm here. I just want to see you happy big brother.”

Kaiba sighed again. “I'm happy with it being just you and me.”

“And Jou?” Mokuba said once again faking innocence.

“Is someone who I am helping out,” Kaiba said opening his laptop once again as he continued to type away.

Mokuba rolled his eyes and walked towards the door but right before he left, the raven-haired boy turned around and said: “Fine but Jou is an awesome person and hopefully you'll see that before it's too late.”

Kaiba watched the door that slammed close with emotionless eyes for a few moments before looking back at the screen and continuing his work.
