…Another Chance…
“Yugi…” Yami whispered as he slowly walked up to the smaller ghost and pulled him into an embrace only to have his arms wrap around Yugi and go right through him. Yami looked down at his arms in dismay and then looked back up at Yugi who had his head hanging down.
Yami knelt down on the floor being careful as not to kneel down on some of the broken glass and placed a hand on Yugi's cheek so that it hovered over it instead of going through it. “Look at me Yugi,” Yami said softly and then smiled when Yugi's amethyst eyes locked on to his crimson ones. At this angle, they were both eye level with Yugi's being taller by maybe half an inch.
“Yami, I—” Yugi began but was cut off when Yami shook his head slightly.
“No Yugi. The last thing I want to hear from you is I'm sorry,” Yami said wishing that he could feel Yugi's warmth under his hand. “I'm the one who needs to apologize. Now I wasn't disgusted or ashamed of you or anything like that. It was just that…”
Yami wasn't sure how to explain his past nightmares of his uncle but luckily he didn't have to when Yugi placed a small finger over Yami's lips. “I know Yami. I know everything,” Yugi said softly.
Yami tilted his head slightly. “How?” was all Yami said.
Yugi sighed and said: “Well, it's kind of complicated but as our bond grows, not only are you able to see my other `ghost' friends, but we begin to develop a mind link with each other which we can communicate through. So I saw your past through your eyes basically. I know it doesn't sound logical but there it is.”
Yami laughed ever so slightly. “Yugi, I have the most beautiful creature standing in front of me that embodies such kindness and innocence that I would think it would be impossible for the gods to even create. But here you are.”
Yugi blushed deeply and, for the first time since they've been talking, looked away from Yami's eyes.
“But Yugi…there is one thing you have to understand,” Yami said watching as Yugi's eyes turned back to stare at him.
“Love isn't logical.”
Yugi was visibly taken aback and the only thing he could say was, “What do you mean?”
Yami smiled and leaned in so that their faces were only inches apart. Then, at that moment, he whispered lovingly: “I mean, my little angel, that I am in love with you. Madly and unconditionally in love with you.
Yami felt a tickling feeling underneath his hand but paid it no mind. His full attention was on the beauty that had captivated his heart and mind.
Tears threatened to form in those bright amethyst eyes but nothing could hide the absolute joy and happiness in them. “Oh, Yami do you really mean that?” Yugi asked with a tear sliding down his cheek. He didn't wait for the answer as he closed the space in between them and whispered against Yami's lips: “I love you too Yami. I just love you so much.”
At that moment, Yugi's and Yami's lips connected passionately. They failed to realize that their lips met each other and didn't pass each other for the need in both of the individuals was so strong that the fact that Yugi's lips was solid didn't even register. They had been waiting…longing this moment ever since the day they met in Yami's classroom. Yami finally let his hand rest on Yugi's solid cheek and that was when they both broke apart in shock.
Yugi looked from Yami's stunned eyes and turned his attention to Yami's hands. Slowly, as if not believing what had just happened, Yugi lifted his love's hand and placed it on his chest. They both gasped in disbelief as it laid on Yugi's small form without going through.
“Yugi,” Yami said his heart rate finally slowing down. “You're—“
“Human!” Yugi said as he pounced into Yami's arms. Yami caught his smaller love with ease and embraced him tightly. He never wanted to let go in fear that Yugi would become a ghost again. He wanted to feel Yugi's warmth for all of eternity.
“Shhh,” Yami whispered as Yugi began to sob in pure happiness. The shock was obviously too much for him. The fact that he was going to be a regular teenager again, that he could age and have a normal life, that he could be with Yami…it was too much to hold in. Even Yami released a tear or two but tried to keep his emotions back so that he would be able to comfort Yugi better.
“I know Yugi. I'm happy too,” Yami whispered as he began to stroke Yugi's hair.
“You…don't understand,” Yugi hiccupped. His emotions were coming full force. “I've been alone for over 1,000 years. And now…I have a chance to live again, to truly live again. And…best of all…to live with you…the person I love more than anything.”
Yami's heart smiled at Yugi's touching words even though it did sadden him. He hadn't realized that Yugi had been wandering the world aimlessly for that long. He must have felt so…alone.
“It's okay Yugi,” Yami said as he nuzzled his face into Yugi's hair and breathed in the enticing scent, “I know you were alone but you'll never be alone again. We'll be together until the day we die.”
Yugi nodded as he sat up, his eyes shining brightly. Yami gently brushed Yugi's tears away with his thumb, something that he thanked the gods he was able to do.
“Can we go eat? Please?” Yugi said suddenly, catching Yami of guard.
“Sure,” Yami said but waited for Yugi to expand more on why he had the urge to eat at this moment.
“True I could eat when I was a ghost but it didn't feel the same. I mean, I didn't need food to live. It was just something that was normal to us so we did it. But now that I need it to live again…it probably taste different,” Yugi explained cutely and Yami wrapped his arms around Yugi's small form and picked him up.
“Hey what are you doing?” Yugi complained. Not that he didn't mind being in Yami's arms but he hoped that the other didn't plan to go outside carrying him.
“Yes, I do plan to go outside carrying you,” Yami said, flashing the smaller a grin.
Yugi narrowed his eyes playfully and said: “Did you just read my mind? Without telling me?”
“Sorry, I didn't mean to. This only mind link thing is still new to me,” Yami said sheepishly and Yugi giggled at the other. Yami smiled at the angelic sound. If only Yugi could laugh forever.
“I can as long as I'm with you,” Yugi said and Yami glared down at the smaller youth.
“Oh I see, so now you're going to listen to my thoughts?” Yami said forcing another giggle from Yugi.
“I couldn't resist. Anyways there is a way to control it so that we're not reading each other's thoughts all the time because that would get annoying after a while. But we're going to have to work on it. And…wait a minute; did you say you are going to carry me outside to eat?” Yugi asked suspiciously.
Yami nodded and placed Yugi on the ground only to through a coat on him and then picked his small bundle up again. “I'm never letting you out of my arms, never mind my sight,” Yami said opening the door with ease. Yugi was extremely light but Yami figured that he would be as light as an angel.
“Yami you have to let me walk,” Yugi said crossing his arms. “You can't baby me forever.”
“Oh you don't think so?” Yami inquired and Yugi giggled in response. That beautiful laugh.
“We're leaving!” Jou said as he shot open the front door.
“Like hell we are,” Kaiba said holding onto his office door as Mokuba attempted to drag him out.
“Please big brother, you need to get out. You haven't had a break in forever! Pwease!” Mokuba begged knowing that there was no way to get his brother to leave if Jou couldn't help drag him out.
“No especially with him!” Kaiba said pointing an accusing finger at Jou. “I'd rather be mauled by cannibals. It's bad enough that he has to stay here! Just because you would kill me if I kicked him out.”
Mokuba sighed in frustration and ran his fingers through his raven hair. He had one last trick up his sleeve. “If you don't leave then I'll do the puppy dog face!”
Kaiba became still and glared down at his younger brother. “You wouldn't dare,” Kaiba said in a tone that screamed death.
“Try me,” Mokuba bit back with as much venom. Jou only watched the two Kaiba's go at it. He was amazed when Kaiba gave in.
“Okay fine,” Kaiba said bitterly and proceeded to where Jou was standing. “You. Out. Now.” Kaiba said to Jou, signaling the blonde that he was ready to leave.
“Don't do anything I wouldn't do,” Mokuba yelled after the two individuals who exited the large mansion and he could have sworn he heard Kaiba threaten him. “Well, actually please feel free to do anything you want,” Mokuba whispered to himself as he scurried over to the TV.
“Over my dead body,” Kaiba hissed when Jou tried to convince him to get on the bus instead of taking the car.
“Come on Kaiba! You need to learn how to be a regular teenager. All this work is getting to you. Mokuba can see it and that's why he wants me to take you out and experience the night life. You haven't even been out with your friend's in a while,” Jou argued.
Kaiba rubbed his temples and glared at the blonde. “If I take the damn bus, will you promise never to take me anywhere ever again!”
Jou nodded and virtually forced the elder Kaiba to follow him to the bus stop. After a few minutes of excruciating silence, the bus came up and Jou and Kaiba jumped on. Jou watched as Kaiba shot everyone on the bus a nasty look until they were seated at the very back.
“You seriously have to learn some people skills,” Jou said with a sigh. He was trying to get Kaiba to loosen up a bit but it didn't seem to be working.
“And what do you suggest I do?” Kaiba asked not really caring for the response.
“I don't know but it would really make your brother happy if you at least pretend that you're having a good time,” Jou replied.
“Hmm, I'm on a dirty, filthy bus on my way to eat out somewhere with the likes of you? Oh yeah, I'm having a blast,” Kaiba said, the sarcasm painfully evident in his voice.
Jou glared and watched as an older woman stepped onto the bus with her baby wrapped in her arms and let's just say the baby was no where near cute.
"That's the ugliest baby that I've ever seen,” Jou heard the bus driver say impulsively. Kaiba on the other hand was staring out the window not at all paying attention.
Jou watched as the fuming woman came towards the rear of the bus and quickly caught the brunet's attention.
"The driver just insulted me!" she said as she took a seat next Kaiba.
Kaiba shrugged and said indifferently: “Well if you wish to go and tell him off then I'm sure Jou over there would hold your monkey for you.”
Jou winced as the woman slapped Kaiba across the cheek and stormed off the bus. Judging from the look on Kaiba's face, Jou made his way over to the other side of the bus and said slowly: “Ah, I think I'll just sit here for the rest of the ride.”
Oh, if looks could kill, Jou would surely be dead by now. Why didn't he just let Kaiba take the car?
“Yami put me down!” Yugi yelled at the other who was holding him tightly while they were waiting in line to be seated. Yami ignored the other boy and watched as a waitress walked up with wide eyes.
“Um two?” she asked watching Yugi hide his scarlet-colored face under Yami's neck.
“Yes,” was all Yami said and paid no mind to the stares they got as they took a seat at a four person table. “Not used to all the attention are you?” Yami asked sitting Yugi on his lap.
“I was invisible to almost everybody for over 1,000 years so no I'm not used to all the attention,” Yugi said sarcastically.
Yami smiled and reluctantly let Yugi sit beside him instead of on him. “Why did they seat us at a four person table?” Yugi inquired but then looked around to see that all of the two person tables were full. What he didn't expect to see was Jou and Kaiba walking towards them…or more Jou running towards them and Kaiba stalking like a madman after him.
Oh this was going to be an interesting dinner…
