15) The Solution
Summary: Yami finds out about the Bond of the Gods and one other card; Seto has a fantasy. (LIME)
Yami blinked as the swirling mists of passing time cleared. "Dark Sage!" he declared, for indeed through the magic of the Time Wizard, his Dark Magician had transformed into his millennium-old self, the Dark Sage. "You can advise me?"
The ancient, bearded wizard regarded the spirit solemnly for a moment, then nodded. He gestured to a door at the end of the chamber, one Yami had never seen before.
"You want me to enter through the door?" When the wizard nodded, Yami strode over to it. Opening it, he saw nothing but blackness beyond. [I must trust my cards,] he reminded himself, knowing that their magic, their appearance as they manifested in his soul room was due to the ancient powers stored in his Millennium Puzzle, powers he barely understood, much less knew how to control. He stepped through the door.
Immediately he was in a stone chamber lit only by torches set in sconces along the four walls. It felt very ancient, like the stone tablets in the Egyptian exhibit... in fact, this could be like an Egyptian tomb deep in one of the pyramids. There was no longer any apparent door and no windows. The walls were covered with writing - Egyptian hieroglyphs. Two stone pillars stood together against one wall.
"Dark Sage, what is this place?" Yami asked of the wizard at his side, in awe.
"The Crypt of Osiris," Dark Sage murmured. "The Chamber of the Eternal Pharoah, the Judge of Departed Souls and He Who is Life after Life. In your time, Pharoah, Osiris represented the triumph of order over chaos. Here the Goddess Isis buried the remains of Osiris gathered from where Set had flung them across Egypt. Here she became filled with the immortal energies of Osiris to give birth to his successor and avenger, Horus."
Yami nodded, the mythology familiar yet strange. "Osiris and Horus... the cyclic renewal of the Nile every year... the death and rebirth of the Sun every day... the periodic reappearance of the star Sirius, called Sothis... the never-ending cycles which represented eternity... this... has something to do with Yugi and myself...."
"Your insight is correct," Dark Sage affirmed, nodding. "Yet not as you may think. In the history of Egypt, this connection of the gods to the cycles of nature did not remain constant. While cyclic events represent eternity, order may not, in fact, win out over chaos."
"The natural tendency toward entropy," Yami murmured, remembering that Yugi had studied something about that in his science classes in school. "Nothing is eternally unchanging, even the gods."
"Well, not in one incarnation, that is to say," Dark Sage corrected him. "Change is always inevitable. Yet it may be said that there is a Divine Force which does in fact remain unchanging. The way in which this Divine Force is manifested or experienced is what changes according to the needs and the potentials of any given culture... even any given person... to perceive and appreciate."
"I do not pretend to know much about world religions or belief systems, but that seems reasonable, I suppose," Yami replied thoughtfully. "So what exactly does this have to do with us?"
The ancient wizard bowed his head in respect. "I know what your heart seeks, my Pharoah."
[This can't be about my wanting to be with Seto,] Yami thought, frowning. [There's something else here...] "What is that?"
"Osiris and Horus must become forever one. Their hearts must be joined for all eternity. Only then can they become two in order for three to become one."
Yami shook his head, bewildered. "Dark Sage, your words are cryptic! They become one to become two so three can become one? What nonsense is this??"
"You ask the wrong questions, my Pharoah. Instead of what, you should ask who..."
Suddenly Yami remembered the duel not very long ago in which he and Seto had had to cooperate in order to defeat the Five God Dragon set on them by the Big 5 within Seto's virtual reality game, Duel Monsters Quest. Yami's Chaos Soldier, created through the Chaos Ritual by sacrificing his Gaia, the Fierce Knight, and Curse of Dragon, had had to be joined with Seto's Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon to form the Master of Dragon Knight. [This is similar... two became one... three became one... then two became one... so is there some sort of magical combination that is about to occur? Osiris and Horus must be one? Osiris is one of the God cards... but what of Horus? There is no Horus God card...]
"Who is Horus?" Yami asked the wizard suddenly.
"Horus is He Who Comes After. The Living Pharoah."
Yami bowed his head, thinking hard. [I am the Pharoah, but my body died a long time ago. I should be Osiris then. So...] He looked up abruptly. "Yugi is Horus!"
"Yes."
Yami shook his head, again frustrated. "You say you know what I desire... yet you will not say it. You speak in riddles, Sage. Very well, then I will state my desire myself. I wish to separate my manifestation from Yugi so that I may freely be with my beloved Seto. Or is that going to horribly mess up Destiny's little plans for us? Have we already ruined everything?"
The Dark Sage chuckled. "Oh, it is far too late to worry about that, my Pharoah. You've already been told that Destiny has changed. No, that reality cannot happen now... what was originally destined. A new course lies before you, one perhaps more grand than the original one."
"I don't understand!" Yami folded his hands into fists, scowling at the ancient wizard.
"Your desire must be fulfilled for the new destiny to be achieved," Dark Sage murmured. "You have to separate from your host and become a new incarnation. But there is a price."
[My aibou,] Yami thought, his heart suddenly gripped with fear. [This is what I was afraid of... what I absolutely cannot do to him. I cannot leave Yugi, I cannot! He doesn't mind sharing his body with me... perhaps I can just get my hormones under control and accept that I just can't be with Seto like I want to... we don't have to do this...] "What's the price?" he asked dully. [It's already too much to ask...]
The Wizard regarded him solemnly. "Do not assume the price is going to be unbearable to pay, my Pharoah. The price of the Dark Manifestation is the Bond of the Gods. Horus and Osiris must become forever one. You will become united in heart and mind whether you are together or separate."
"What?!" Yami demanded, sure he hadn't heard right. "I can become separate if we unite? What do you mean, 'united in mind and spirit'? He won't be a separate person but our bodies will be separate? That doesn't make sense!"
"I did not mean you will not each maintain your own minds still. I mean that for the most part, what you believe, he will also. What you love... he will also."
Yami swallowed with difficulty. "I knew we could be leading to this... that all three of us one day will be together. That's what this is all about, isn't it? The Three become One..." [Though what that has to do with the mythology, I haven't a clue...]
"In part," the Dark Sage replied. "It will all become clearer at a later time."
[Damn, more evasion,] Yami thought, thinking he would go mad while waiting for this whole "new destiny" thing to unfold. "You mentioned the Bond of the Gods... that's what that card is for, then? To be used in a ritual?"
"Yes."
Yami drew the card out to look at it. When he'd received it, the picture portion appeared as nothing more than a swirling mist. Now that mist appeared to be clearing before his eyes. There were now two figures facing each other, the palms of their hands touching. Osiris and Horus. Osiris appeared as a man wearing a white crown bearing two feather plumes, while Horus appeared as a man with the head of a falcon. "This Ritual Magic card will create the new bond between Yugi and myself?"
As the answer was obvious, the Dark Sage only murmured, "Take out the blank Magic card you were given."
Yami drew out the blank Continuous Magic card. To his wonder, it, too, was changing. "Dark Manifestation," he read, then gasped when the forming picture on its surface coalesced into what was clearly a black silhouette of himself. The outline of his hair, of course, was unmistakable. "This represents the power of my Millennium Puzzle to create a separate form for myself," he stated, looking to the Sage for affirmation. "But why is it a Continuous Magic card? Isn't it to be used once to create my new body?"
The Dark Sage looked at him with an unreadable expression. "If you were to use that card by itself, your bond with Yugi Mutou would be severed and the card destroyed. The fulfillment that must take place could never happen. The other cards would also disappear, returned to the future that would never be. You would be a separate person from Yugi and free to be with your lover, but no destiny would be achieved. The magic that is threatening the world would be unleashed with no possibility of stopping. The Scepter would never find its home."
Yami gulped. "Then I have to use these two cards together, obviously, Bond of the Gods with Dark Manifestation. But you didn't answer my question..."
"It's simple. I did not say Yugi and Yami would become one. You would still share his body when you both wished, or not. Osiris and Horus must become one. That is what must take place. Dark Manifestation allows you to switch between your forms."
The spirit shook his head. It was all too much, this talk of the gods and becoming "one". "I could still blend with him??"
"Of course," the wizard responded with infinite patience. "You prefer to do so when you duel, correct? If you could not still blend with him, the duels could be lost. The new, chosen destiny would fail. Yet you must also be separate, for as I have explained, there are other combinations to be achieved."
Yami remembered the other Bond card that Seto now had. "Bond of the Protectors... so that is for Seto and myself! And if I wasn't separate from Yugi for that, it wouldn't be possible."
Dark Sage nodded. "You see now the critical nature of Dark Manifestation... when used in concert with the powerful Ritual Magic cards that fulfill its intended use."
Of course there was still more to all this - the Fusion Monster card, the blank, white God card and Seto's blank Magic card, but Yami had had more than enough of the future for one evening. "When... when must we do this Ritual?" he murmured, feeling a bit faint.
Looking the Pharoah over intently, the Dark Sage replied, "Not tonight, obviously. You will need the High Priest for this."
Yami blinked. [Oh, Ra, now what?] "You mean, Seto?"
"I mean the High Priest." The wizard shook his head. "We have discussed enough of this for one night. You must talk this over with both of them, then come to me again, my Pharoah."
Feeling woozy, Yami blinked again and was startled to find he was back in his soul room, staring up at a concerned Dark Magician. "You..." he breathed.
Dark Magician shook his head, sadly. "I know whom you saw, but not what he said. I cannot help you there, Master." His pale blue eyes widened. "Master...?"
He caught Yami deftly as the Gamesmaster fainted.
Seto was only able to manage a few, mostly civil words to his little brother once he got home, before sending Mokuba off to do his homework. Despite the work he knew was waiting for him on his desk and his own homework, he fled to his suite for some much needed solitude... and privacy.
[This is driving me insane,] he thought as he stripped off his clothes and stepped into the shower. But instead of the cold he needed to quell his raging hormones, he turned the water to warm, intending instead to relieve the ache that had gripped him. [Being close to him, touching him, kissing him was bad enough,] he thought as the hard spray pulsed against his body, [but then to see his sweet little other... and I'd asked to see him! Why did I do that? I don't understand how he made me feel... Yugi...]
Seto returned his thoughts to his lover, picturing in his mind the diminutive, hard muscled, wiry body of the Egyptian spirit's manifestation. Ironically, the fact that that lean, lithe form was packaged in a substantially smaller frame than his, really turned him on, especially because Yami exuded such an aura of power and sheer sensuality around him at the same time.
[I've always been proud of my height,] he mused, running his hands idly along his long, lean sides. [I love to tower over others... it gives me a feeling of power. But he effectively does the same thing simply by walking into a room! No wonder he was Pharoah... and if I was his High Priest and was so close to him, how the hell could I have kept my hands off him? Nah, that couldn't have been me...]
That Yami had been the Pharoah who had been powerful enough to seal away the Millennium Magic, Seto Kaiba could well believe. [How can he make me feel strong and helpless all at the same time? He doesn't take anything away from me... and if I were to submit to him sexually, it would not reduce me one bit. That's his power...]
He groaned as his erection hardened painfully. Grasping it, he began to stroke himself as he tilted his head back to let the spray wash over his face. "Unhhhhh," he moaned, "Kami-sama... what you do to me, Yami-chan..." Closing his eyes, he imagined his lover standing before him, naked... and in his fantasy, the Pharoah began to move to some unheard music...
"Shall I dance for you, my Priest?" the Pharoah murmured in his deep, rich voice, the seductive tones setting Sethankhset's heart pounding. That the object of his lust had boldly strode into his private chamber, then stripped off girdle, kilt, headdress, and collar to stand naked before him had already been beyond his wildest fantasies. "I know you want me..." The large, violet, kohl-rimmed eyes looked into his with deceptive demureness.
"How... how did you know?" Seth gasped, feeling himself grow hard. "Yes, I've wanted you, but we are enemies..."
"And why is that, Seth?" Tutmeryamun inquired, tilting his head, leaning his weight back on one foot, his hand resting sensuously on his hip. "You are a beautiful man and it's well known that you favor men as well as I do."
"My... my Pharoah... Tut..." Seth breathed as the tiny Ruler of the World neared. "All right, I do want you... but I will destroy you one day... it is ordained..."
"You want power," the Pharoah whispered, edging closer so that he stood between the Priest's legs where Sethankhset sat sprawled on his couch. "You do not understand power, priest."
"I... don't?" He glanced down to where the Prize of Egypt rose so close to his face. Gulping, he licked his lips. "What do you mean by that?"
A hand raised to remove the Priest's headdress and set it aside him on the couch, then that same hand with gilded nails sifted into his hair, drawing him closer. "True power comes in joining forces. In setting aside differences so that we may combine our formidable strength to become unconquerable. Join with me... Sethankhset..."
The double meaning was not lost on the lust-stricken priest. "I don't want to lose myself in this..." he breathed, fearing his king for the first time in his life.
"I will not allow that," the seductive voice crooned to him as the erect organ before him brushed Seth's cheek. "That is what you do not understand. Now... join with me..."
Sighing deeply, the Priest claimed the Prize and began to suck.
Groaning helplessly, Seto shot long spurts of semen against the shower wall as the fantasy drew to its conclusion. [That... that was so real! But it didn't happen... I know it didn't! The Priest opposed the Pharoah... they *were* enemies... but, oh, Kami-sama, my Yami... my...] He gulped and allowed himself to say it as he shuddered in the throes of his orgasm. "My... Pharoah..."
After cleaning up and finishing his shower, Seto strode into his bedroom, taking up his cell phone, though he made no move to put on any clothes. "Henson," he muttered to his secretary when the man answered. "Is there anything for me to sign today? Report..."
The answer came back quickly, the man well used to his boss's abrupt phone calls at any hour of the day. "Just one document for the bank, sir, routine. Nothing else. Your mail is cleared and three items that might be of your interest are on your desk."
[Good, nothing much today,] Seto mused with relief. [And I don't have much homework, either. Good. I'm in no mood yet despite my little shower escapade to see anyone.] "Thank you, Henson. I'll be indisposed for the rest of the evening."
"Of course, Master Kaiba. Mokuba-sama was asking after you..."
"Tell him I'll see him before he goes to bed," Seto murmured.
"Yes, sir."
Shutting off the phone, Seto tossed it onto his dresser, then glanced around his large, lavish bedroom. His glance fell across a fresh candle taper that the maid had forgotten to place in the sconce beside the door. [That'll do just fine,] he thought, the corner of his mouth turning up into a smirk.
