Battle Stage 23: Confrontation! The City of Death

 

The sun peeked over the Shuba Mountain range illuminating the valley below. Yuugi lay cuddled into Serenity's slender curvy body, sleeping quietly. Serenity woke slowly smiling down at her handsome lover.

 

Serenity was glad that everyone had discovered what Anzu and Jyoonouchi had done. Even if she had gotten Yuugi for herself, Anzu would always have been a threat to steal him away. Now, with Anzu gone Serenity had no competition for his affections.

 

Serenity placed her lips against his forehead gently waking him from his slumber. Yuugi smiled, “Hi.”

 

“Hello Yuugi-kun.” Serenity replied stroking his face.

 

“You should put some clothes on, we have a long day of walking ahead…” Yuugi said his fingers wandering lower, Serenity grabbed his hand kissing him on the lips, “Maybe we could stay here all day.”

 

“We could… but I want to sleep in a bed tonight, if that's ok?” Yuugi replied with a rye smile, Serenity rolled her eyes sitting up in her panties grabbing her shirt, “You're so hard to please… where are we going again?” She asked throwing Yuugi's pants over his head.

 

“The next gym is at Rhodes, I think it's an island because there was no gym on the coast near the Duellist Centre when I looked last night.” Yuugi replied pulling his pants on, he sat up grabbing his shirt, “We can stop and bathe before going onto Rhodes.”

 

Serenity slipped her shorts on and grabbed her bag, “Good, your cooking leaves something to be… desired.”

 

“Hey, I can cook…” Serenity stared at the burnt and slightly charred cookware, “Ok, ok, I guess this is why Grandpa never asks me to cook…”

 

“It wouldn't surprise me…” Serenity replied packing up the rest of the camp, Yuugi picked up his bag, “I don't see you cooking.” He mumbled.

 

Suddenly Yuugi felt the weight of Serenity's eyes bearing down upon his back. He slowed his pace as Serenity approached, her head encroaching on his eye line, “Yuugi-kun, what did you say?”

 

“Nothing!” Yuugi yelled speeding off, Serenity's eyes flared, “Yuugi Mutou, get back here!” Serenity yelled chasing after him. Yuugi had the head start, but Serenity had longer legs and speed on her side. Serenity caught up quickly and tackled Yuugi to the ground, “You're questioning my cooking?!” Serenity yelled tickling him, Yuugi laughed squirming beneath her, “No, no, I'd never question your cooking, it's poisonous enough as it is!” Yuugi yelled in between laughing, Serenity's eyes narrowed, “That's it you're going to get it now!” She yelled also laughing, “Oh yeah, prove it!”

 

Serenity grabbed his face and pressed her lips against his. Serenity's tongue explored his mouth for nearly a minute before coming up for air, Yuugi dropped his head back smiling, “I really love getting it…” Yuugi announced with a grin, Serenity punched him in the arm, “Hentai baka.” Yuugi chuckled, “Maybe.”

 

Serenity smiled, “Yuugi…”

 

He looked up, “What?”

 

She stroked his face, “I love you.”

 

Yuugi took her hand gently, “I know…”

 

Serenity's eyes soften and got off Yuugi helping him up, “We should get going.” Yuugi nodded collecting his bag, as he began to walk away Serenity watched, a single tear rolling down her cheek. Yuugi paused and turned slowly, “You coming?”

 

Serenity wiped the tear away and smiled, “Yep, right behind you.” She responded running to join him.

 

The two gathered themselves and set off. As they walked Yuugi considered the forest around him. The conformity was starting to tick him off slightly, but Yuugi figured the author was too lazy to imagine anything more descriptive. The winding path took them through the forest and out to the seaside. Yuugi and Serenity followed the line of the cliffs as it took them down to the harbour where a small Duellist Centre sat beside a dock. Entering the centre, Serenity and Yuugi separated to go bathe.

 

Emerging from the showers later in just a pair of jeans Yuugi towelled his hair. Dropping his towel to one of the beds he took a look around to see who he was sharing a room with. Two of the beds were empty, while the third caught his eye, sitting at the end of the bed was a swag bag with a white familiar trench coat covering it. Yuugi picked up the trench coat turning it over in his hands arriving at a single conclusion, “Kaiba…”

 

Leaving his room hurriedly Yuugi raced down the stairs into the lobby, Serenity was at the service desk chatting with Hitomi as Yuugi approached. Serenity blushed and averted her eyes as Hitomi smiled, “Um, Yuugi, do you think you might have been overzealous?”

 

“Wh-oh…” Yuugi started but then looked down, in his eagerness to ask after Seto Kaiba he had forgotten to put on a shirt. Yuugi blushed as the eyes of every woman in the centre except Serenity's were on him. Yuugi hadn't realized how the journey had affected his body, the days of constant walking had started toning his already semi-hard body. He'd always liked games, but exercise had always been important to him, particularly when avoiding bullies.

 

Hitomi continued to smile a small blush creeping up her cheeks, “I assume that you had a reason to rush down here?”

 

“Huh, oh, yes, do you have a Seto Kaiba staying here?”

 

“Seto?” Serenity questioned as Hitomi turned to her computer and began typing away.

 

“A Mr. Seto Kaiba and Miss Mai Kujyaku arrived three nights ago, they left for the island the morning after they arrived.”

 

“Why haven't they returned…” Yuugi pondered, Serenity tilted her head, “Maybe they decided to stay on the island for a couple of days.” Yuugi turned to her, “Without their clothes?” Serenity shrugged, “If I were going to an island with you I might not take any clothes either.” Serenity whispered wrapping her arms around him, Yuugi blushed raising his head, “We-well no sense in hanging around…” He said untangling himself from Serenity and walking upstairs, Hitomi was left staring at Serenity who dropped her head blushing.

 

Minutes later Yuugi descended fully dressed pulling his blue duelling coat over his grey vest holding his duel disk in his other hand, “Hitomi, is there a ferry that goes to the island?”

 

“Yes, but, it was damage the day your friends went to Rhodes, the ferry was attacked by a Sea Serpent duel monster, it's still in dry dock on the island.” Hitomi reported sounding quite embarrassed. Yuugi cocked his head and pondered, “Is there any other way to get to the island?”

 

“Only one… but it's for emergencies.” Hitomi replied, Yuugi sighed, “Please Miss Hitomi it could be an emergency, our friends could be in danger.” He pleaded, Hitomi sighed, “Very well, there is a Helicopter pad behind this building, I'll summon our pilot.”

 

Yuugi smiled, “Thank you Hitomi.”

 

Hitomi gave him a rueful look, “You're difficult to say no too.”

 

“Tell me about it…” Serenity muttered as Yuugi went pinked cheeked.

 

Yuugi paced in front of Hitomi's desk until a large man with a flight jacket the collar put up and dark shades covering his eyes entered the centre, “Who needs a ride?” He asked through a thick American accent.

 

Serenity and Yuugi stepped forward, the pilot nodded and ushered them out to the helicopter at the rear of the centre.

 

The trip took less than half an hour; the small four-seater chopper sped over the sea and through the cliffs to Rhodes. Landing at a small helipad at the edge of the city, Yuugi and Serenity got out, “I'll wait until you return.”

 

Yuugi nodded, “Thanks, we'll be back soon.” He responded slamming the door running after Serenity.

 

The pilot leaned back in his chair scratching the metallic bulge at the back of his neck.

 

Yuugi and Serenity entered the city from the helipad to find it quiet, almost deserted, only a handful of people were on the streets and even they were walking around as if in a trance. Serenity clung to Yuugi's arm as they approached a wandering citizen. A short stout woman stopped as Yuugi and Serenity cut in front of her. Yuugi studied the blank expression on the woman's face until, in a rather robotic fashion she moved around them to continue to her destination. Serenity turned to face Yuugi, “That was spooky…”

 

Yuugi nodded, “Let's find Mai and Kaiba and get out of here... hey… Isis!” Yuugi yelled as the Raven haired swarthy woman passed him. The young woman turned, “Yes, is there something I can help you?”

 

“It's me...”

 

Isis sighed, “It must be contagious…” She muttered before returning to Yuugi, “Me who?”

 

Yuugi glanced at Serenity, “Yuugi, your friend, Yuugi Mutou.”

 

“I'm sorry your name sounds familiar, but I don't know who you are you must have me confused with someone else.”

 

“Yeah… must have.” Yuugi responded slowly, however Serenity cut in with a question, “You said it was contagious, does that mean someone has mistaken you for someone else recently?”

 

Isis nodded, “A few days ago yes, a Seto Kaiba claimed he knew me… he also claimed I had a brother, a very odd young man. I think I would remember a handsome man like him.” She explained a small smile crossing her face, “Is there anything else I can help you with?”

 

Yuugi shook his head, “No, thanks for your time.”

 

Isis returned his bow and departed, Serenity walked around to face Yuugi who was watching Isis depart, “Shouldn't we go after her?”

 

Yuugi shook his head, “Isis believes what she told us.” Serenity nodded looking back towards Isis then to Yuugi, “Where do we go now?”

 

“Where Seto would have gone, the gym.” Yuugi responded, Serenity watched Yuugi set off before calling him back, “Yuugi, I've got a bad feeling…”

 

“I know, you don't have to…” He started but was interrupted by Serenity, “I'm going with you.”

 

“Oh, kay, let's go.”

 

Serenity Yuugi set off through the city weaving through the streets towards the concrete bunker that was the Rhodes gym.

 

Without even the doors of the gym they opened. Yuugi and Serenity passed through into the duelling gallery. The room was pitch black with the exception of the light from the doors, which suddenly disappeared as the doors slammed behind them.

 

A spot light snapped on over Yuugi and a voice beyond the light spoke, “Speak.”

 

Yuugi shielded his eyes, “My name is Yuugi Mutou I'm here looking for my… people I know, Seto Kaiba and Mai Kujyaku.”

 

“They came here.”

 

“Where are they?” Yuugi demanded.

 

“Right here!”

 

Another spotlight snapped on over a blank faced Seto Kaiba in full duelling attire, Yuugi glared beyond the light, “Where's Mai?”

 

A third spotlight snapped on over a platform above Kaiba, the speaker was barely illuminated, lain before him was a barely clothed Mai Kujyaku. She lay in semi-translucent lingerie her face as blank as Kaiba's, Yuugi's eyes linger on Mai's heavenly body. He hadn't really considered Mai for a date except for that one time in the Duellist Centre in Janus. But Yuugi was still a boy and Mai had a very, very attractive body, he stared until Serenity elbowed him in the ribs, “Ow, huh, oh, right… what have you done to them?”

 

“They are under my control, I see you like.” Vampire Lord responded with a smile, Yuugi blushed, “Ah, eh, no, I don't!” Vampire Lord laughed, “Of course.”

 

Yuugi growled, “Let them go!”

 

“Perhaps, you'll have to duel me for the right to secure their release.”

 

“Them and Isis!”

 

“Isis? Oh yes the young woman searching for her brother, very well, but I will duel by proxy.”

 

“Proxy?” Serenity whispered glancing to Yuugi.

 

“Let me guess, Seto Kaiba?”

 

Vampire Lord laughed, “Naturally, but using my deck and my strategy.”

 

“Let's duel.”

 

Vampire Lord Life Points: 8000

Yuugi Mutou Life Points: 8000

 

::Vampire Lord::

 

Seto sprang to life mimicking Vampire Lord's movements to the second, “I draw;

 

1. I activate Curse of the Masked Beast (Ritual/Spell);

 

2. And send Despair from the Dark (Dark/Zombie/Effect/8 ATK/2800 DEF/3200);

 

3. To summon Masked Beast (Dark/Fiend/Ritual/8 ATK/3200 DEF/1800) in attack mode;

 

4. I play one card face down.”

 

::Yuugi::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I summon Magician of Chaining Attack (Dark/Spellcaster/Effect/4 ATK/1600 DEF/1200) in attack mode;

 

2. Pot of Greed (Spell) allows me to draw two cards from my deck;

 

3. Swords of Revealing Light (Spell) stops you from attacking for three turns;

 

4. Magician of Chaining Attack effect activates;

 

5. I end my turn.”

3. Skilled Dark Magician attack!”

 

“No not this time Magic Cylinder (Trap) activates turning your attack back on you!”

 

“Damn it…”

2. Skilled White Magician attack!”

 

“Again I counter this time with Mirror Force (Trap) destroying all your attacking monsters!”

 

Yuugi growled, “Fine I play a card face down and end my turn.”

 

::Vampire Lord:: (Swords of Revealing Light, Turn: 3)

 

“I draw;

 

1. I sacrifice Magician of Chaining Attack to summon Great Maju Garzett (Dark/Fiend/Effect/6 ATK/0 DEF/0) in attack mode;

 

2. Great Maju Garzett's effect activates doubling Magician of Chaining Attack's attack and adds it to Great Maju Garzett's attack points (ATK/3200);

 

3. I play two cards face down and end my turn.”

 

::Yuugi::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I send Magician's Valkyria to the graveyard to summon Cybernetic Magician (Light/Spellcaster/Effect/6 ATK/2400 DEF/1000) in attack mode;

 

2. I send a card to the graveyard to activate Cybernetic Magician's special ability to reduce Great Maju Garzett's attack to two thousand points (ATK/2000);

 

3. Cybernetic Magician ATTACK!”

 

Vampire Lord laughed, I thought you would have learnt, Shadow Spell (Continuous/Trap) cancels your monster's attack and decreases its attack seven hundred points (ATK/1700).”

 

Yuugi exhaled, “Shit, who taught you how to duel.”

 

“My, my, what a potty mouth you have. To answer your question, I was bred to duel.”

 

Serenity tilted her head, “What does that mean?”

 

“I have been programmed with an inate knowledge of duelling and strategy, I was bred to duel.”

 

“Then do it!” Yuugi yelled.

 

::Vampire Lord::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I summon Melchid the Four Faced Beast (Dark/Fiend/4 ATK/1500 DEF/1200) in defence mode;

 

2. I play one card face down;

 

3. Great Maju Garzett attack!”

 

“My turn, Spellbinding Circle (Continuous/Spell) cancels your monsters attack and stops it from changing battle position or attacking.”

 

Vampire Lord scowled, “Clever.”

 

::Yuugi::

 

“Thanks, I draw;

 

1. I send Skilled White Magician;

 

2. And Magician of Chaining Attack out of my graveyard;

 

3. To summon Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of Beginning (Light/Warrior/Effect/8 ATK/3000 DEF/2500) in attack mode;

 

4. Black Luster Soldier attack!”

 

“Again, to bad, Metal Reflect Slime (Trap) becomes a Monster (Aqua/Water/10 ATK/0 DEF/3000) in defence mode.”

 

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of Beginning's attack failed.

 

::Vampire Lord::

 

“I draw;

 

1. Harpie's Feather Duster (Spell) to destroy all your Spell and Trap cards;

 

2. I play Monster Reborn (Spell) to revive Masked Beast from my graveyard;

 

3. Now attack!”

 

Masked Beast's attack destroyed Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of Beginning; Great Maju Garzett's attack destroyed Cybernetic Magician.

Magician of Black Chaos's attack destroyed Metal Reflect Slime; Dark Magician Knight's attack destroyed Grand Tiki Elder.

“Ok, I draw;

 

1. Dark Magician Knight attack Archfiend Soldier;

 

2. Magician of Black Chaos attack!”

 

Dark Magician Knight destroyed Archfiend Soldier; Magician of Black Chaos's attack inflicted 3500 points of direct damage to the opponent.

::Vampire Lord::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I activate Frozen Soul (Trap) if I have at least two thousand life points less than you, Frozen Soul forces you to skip your next battle phase;

 

2. I summon Drillago (Dark/Machine/Effect/4 ATK/1600 DEF/1100) in attack mode;

 

3. And attack via Drillago's special ability.”

 

Drillago's attack inflicted 1600 points of direct damage to the opponent.

1. I play Premature Burial (Equip/Spell) to revive Dark Magician (Dark/Spellcaster/7 ATK/2500 DEF/2100) in attack mode at a cost of eight hundred life points (LP: 2000);

 

2. I add Tomb of Magic's (Equip/Spell) to Dark Magician to increase it's attack seven hundred points (ATK/3200);

 

3. I'll play one card face down and end my turn.”

 

::Vampire Lord::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I summon Winged Minion (Dark/Fiend/Effect/2 ATK/700 DEF/700) in defence mode;

 

2. I add United We Stand (Equip/Spell) to increase Drillago's attack and defence eight hundred points for every monster on my side of the field (ATK/3200 DEF/2700);

 

3. Drillago attack!”

 

“No way, Collected Power (Trap) switches all equip spell cards on the field to my Magician of Black Chaos. Tomb of Magic's is destroyed when not equipped to Dark Magician or Dark Magician Girl, this activates Tomb of Magic's second ability increasing my life points one thousand (LP: 3000). Premature Burial is destroyed returning Dark Magician to the graveyard. United We Stand increases Magician of Black Chaos's attack and defence sixteen hundred points (ATK/4400 DEF/4200).”

 

Drillago's attack inflicted 1600 points of direct damage to the opponent.

 

Yuugi Mutou LP: 1400

Vampire Lord LP: 900

 

::Yuugi::

 

“My time, I draw;

 

1. Magician of Black Chaos attack!”

 

Magician of Black Chaos's attack destroyed Drillago.

 

Yuugi Mutou LP: 1400

Vampire Lord LP: 0

 

Kaiba involuntarily stumbled as Vampire Lord reeled, “This isn't possible!”

 

Yuugi smirked, “Believe it, you've lost, now release them!”

 

Vampire Lord shook, “Human scum!”

 

“Release them!” Yuugi bellowed his eyes growing darker under his anger.

 

Vampire Lord spat at Yuugi pressing a button on a console by his right hand. Suddenly Kaiba and Mai went rigid from the neck up, two taps of metal against concrete were heard as the control implants dropped from their necks.

 

As the clouds lifted from Kaiba's eyes he staggered and was caught by Yuugi before he collapsed. Waking in Yuugi's eyes Kaiba pushed against him, his breathing laboured, “Yuugi, what the hell…”

 

“It's ok, can you stand?” Yuugi asked, before Kaiba could respond they heard a screech. Spinning around Yuugi and Kaiba witnessed Mai scurrying away from Vampire Lord's platform towards Yuugi, Kaiba and Serenity. “What the hell is going on, and what the hell am I wearing?” Mai screamed as Kaiba threw his trench coat over her.

 

Vampire Lord's seething frame loomed above them as the group recovered themselves, “Human, disgusting human scum, you all deserve to die!” He screamed smashing his fist into his console, sparks flying into the cold damp air.

 

The ground shook slightly as the cries of thousands in agony went up from the city, Serenity, Kaiba and Mai rushed outside.

 

“Oh my god…” Serenity whispered as they witnessed the city exploding into chaos, blood flowed free as the people collapsed in the streets.

 

“Stop, stop killing them!” Yuugi screamed, Vampire Lord stared insanely down upon him, “They deserve to die, and so do you!”

 

Vampire Lord dived at Yuugi landing upon him before Yuugi could escape, “YUUGI!” Serenity screamed re-entering the gym. Vampire Lord was about to sink his teeth into Yuugi's neck when he jerked and gasped slumping sideways an arrow protruding from his back. Yuugi emerged from under Vampire Lord covered in blood; looking into the rafters he could see a pair of grey eyes staring at him, disappearing quickly.

 

“Let's go.” Yuugi whispered hoarsely approaching the stunned group.

 

The group entered the city to find the population dead, Isis's body was among the ruins. At the Helipad they discovered the pilot, also dead, in his seat.

 

Kaiba dragged the pilot from his seat leaving him on the pad. Yuugi stared back at the city, then to Kaiba, “This is yours I think.” He said taking a badge from his pocket.

 

Kaiba glanced down, “What is this?”

 

“The Demons badge, I think it belongs to you.”

 

Kaiba looked up into Yuugi's eyes, “I can't accept this…”

 

Yuugi shook his head, “Yes you can Seto.” He said placing the badge in his hand.

 

Kaiba closed his fist, “Thank you, I will repay this debt.”

 

Yuugi nodded and looked back at the city of death, “Get us out of here.”
