Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Fury ❯ Homecomming ( Chapter 4 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Scratch: This was a hard chapter to write. In fact, I have part of the next chapter written already! And I started another stupid, pointless and totally worthless grouping of Fics called "Behind Closed Doors" (the place to go after 3 days without sleep and a lot of alcohol in your system). The beginning sucks, but... ah, well.
Homecoming - Fury, Chapter 4
Her plane landed in Domino at 3pm. She found her bags and hailed a taxi.
"Turtle Game Shop, Please."
It had been so long since she'd been home. She loved New York, and her school and her friends. And her fiance. She turned the diamond ring around her finger. What would the others say? Danny was due to arrive in Domino the next day becuase of a performance with his theatre group he just couldn't miss. She smiled. She knew her friends would love him. But she was still nervous.
And what about Yami? Joey had said that he was sick, but with what? This was going to be a very interesting visit.
**
Tristan needed to refuel. He had been on his bike for the last two hours, and as much as he loved riding, two full hours was enough to make anyone's butt numb. Stretching, he dug out his wallet. 'Hm, $20 more should get me to Domino alright...it's only another hour or so.' Tristan had gotten a phone call from Joey that morning. He had known Yami was sick, but he didn't realize what bad shape he was in until Joey said that Tea was on her way home. Tristan had finished his last exam for the season that morning. He would have waited for Bakura, but aparently his friend had some pressing business to take care of. "Not to worry, I'll catch the next train out, Tristan. I really can't leave right yet, but I'll be there tonight, promise!" Hm, Tirstan scoffed. 'I just don't get it. What could be more important than this? Especially if this is as bad as Joey lets on.' And with that, Tirstan was back out on the open road.
**
"Another cider, Ms. Valentine?" Mai accepted the drink from her seat on the train. 'I wonder what's got Joey so rattled. He's never asked me to come home before, at least, not this fast. It sounded so important. I wonder...'
"Ms. Valentine?" The attendant interupted her. He held out a cell phone. "I'm terribly sorry, but it's Mr. Deltore. He says it's urgent."
Annoyed, Mai took the phone. "Valentine here... I told you, Raymond, I'm out of town. No, I can't, it's too...Raymond, please stop shouting. Raymond, I know that I'm due for the Tokyo shoot in a week, but I don't know when... Raymond...Raymond...Ray...ALRIGHT, listen here, pal..." Mai stood, her free hand clenched. She yelled into the phone now, quite annoyed at her agent. "I am YOUR client. I'M the one who gets the jobs, I'M the one who picks the shoots, and I'M the one who Pays YOUR sallary, so unless you're looking forward to the unemployment line, I suggest you take a few Vallium and reschedual. Tell the Agency that I'm on hiatus. Family emergency. Oh, and Ray? Have a nice day."
**
Joey closed the door quietly behind him. Yami's fever had spiked again, and he his skin had turned a sickly yellowed white. No matter what Joey did, Yami just kept getting worse and worse. Joey had no idea what Yami had, or whether it was contagious. He had chosen to take his chances with whatever the disease was, but Grandpa Mouto had to be sent out of town. He was to old to take any chances; and if this illness had taken Yami out that bad, Joey shuddered to think what could have happened to his employer. He remembered that morning clearly:
"Joey, are you sure about this? I'm a tough guy, I could handle it!"
"No way, Grandpa Mouto. I'm not standin around while you catch a bug like that. I can run the shop, just like you taught me. I'd just feel better if you wern't in the line of fire, if ya know what I mean."
"Alright, Joey. I trust you. But, I want you to have this..."
Granpa Mouto had held out a wrinkled piece of paper.
"I know he didn't want you to see this, but I spoke to him last three years ago. He didn't want any of you kids to know where he was. He told me everything, Joey, and he's very sorry for what happened. He just didn't think you could forgive him. He didn't even want me to talk to him, now that he has a new life, but I think this is a valid exception."
"Wait a minuet. Who you talkin about, Gramps?"
Grampa Mouto had looked deep into Joey's eyes, and pressed the paper into the blond boy's hand.
"Yugi."
"Yugi? You mean you knew where he was and didn't even tell us! Man! Yugi?! But, how do I...what should, I mean...Gramps, what he did, I dunno. It was so..."
"Joey, that wasn't my grandson. You have to believe me. I never told anyone this, but I really don't believe Yugi could have done that. I think there are other forces at work here. Please, Joey, find him. My Yugi would want to know."
Grampa Mouto had been right on. None of the group had believed that it was really Yugi. Not even Tea, who said that something had just felt...wrong. It took a lot, but, after talking to everyone in their former group, Joey had sent the letter. It was more than a week ago, but there was no reply, and Yami was running out of time...
"Wait...Stop! No, Please..."
Yami was dreaming again. Joey was snapped back to reality, and re-opened the door. Yami was sitting up in the bed, shaking. He looked at his friend, terrified.
"I can't stop them, Joey. Without him, I can't...they're coming for me, Joey. Please...I, I don't want to go back..."
Joey sat down the old soul's bed, helping him lie back down.
"Yami, you're not makin sense, here. Who's coming for you?"
"They are...The shadows...I can't stop them...I can feel them here..."
Joey struggled to hold back the tears in his eyes. Yami's breathing was laboured and he was sweating. His eyes were glassy.
"The shadow realm. Well, we beat em once, pal, we'll do it again, no prob!" Joey was a good friend, but a terrible liar.
"No, Joey, there's no fighting this time. I can't without him. There's nothing left. No time..."
"Yami, don't say that. I'll get the old gang together and we'll figure out a way..."
Suddenly, Yami grabbed Joey's arm hard. Joey winced in pain, but what Yami said next chilled him to the bone:
"Without Light, there can be no Darkness..."
With that, Yami's eyes closed, and he lapsed into unconciousness.
Joey couldn't remember how long he'd cried. Yami was sleeping fretfully for now, but how long before sleep gave way to...
"No! No WAY am I givin up. Not yet! What the..."
Joey had barely noticed the tapping at the glass windows of the front shop. He wiped his face and made his way down the stairs. Standing at the window was a tall brunette, propping his bike up against the wall.
"Tristan! Man am I glad you're here!" Joey unlocked the door and gave his freind a big bear hug. "And guess who I found at the train station, Joey..." A tall, leggy blond woman stepped into the shop. She dropped her bags before flying into Joey's arms.
"Joey! Oh, Joey, I missed you! I got here as fast as I could!"
"I know, babe, and I missed you, too!"
"Hey, what's going on?" Tea had just stepped out of her cab. She passed some cash to the cabbie who nodded and sped off.
"Oh, nothing, just a reunion between huggy-bear and kissy-bear. How are ya, Tea?" Tristan locked Tea into another bear hug before Joey stepped up to her. The look in his eyes told her everythig. "It's bad, isn't it, Joey?"
There was silence for a minet or two, then Joey ushered everyone inside. They didn't see the limo coming up around the corner.
"Man, am I glad you's all are here. Bakura called, he said he's on his way."
"Yeah, he said something about some meeting or something." Tristan was leaning up against the front till now, Joey and Mai on the other side and Tea next to Tristan.
"Danny's flying in tomorrow." Tea spoke next. "You guys'll like him, I think!"
"Wow! Jeez, girl, look at the size of that rock on your finger!" Mai nearly ripped Tea's left hand off as she examined the ring. Joey sweatdropped. "Now, eh, Mai, it's not size that counts, right, it's sentiment..."
"Sure Joey."
Tristan rolled his eyes. Not this again. Joey and Mai had been 'planning' to get engaged for over a year. "No pressure, Joe. It's just your Mai. The gal of your dreams. Your future wife. who cares about size.."
"Shaddup."
**
Blood soaked his hands. Those awful voices were calling out to him. The eyes were looking straight into his yet again, only this time, they were weaker.
"Yugi..."
"Leave me alone!" Yugi yelled. He wanted to run, but doing so would mean jumping off the card he stood on.
"It's too late now. I can't leave you. I won't ever leave you..."
"Shut up! Shut up! You're not even real! You're just a dream!" The blood was pooling underneith him. Yugi was backing up to get away from those eyes. he felt the edge and looked down. Someone grabbed him by the collar and yamked his face forward.
"Without Darkness There Can Be No Light".
Yugi screamed. The cold face. The White hair...that golden eye...
He saw himself shoved off the card, felt himself falling.
"Yugi..."
"NO! PLEASE!!"
"Yugi! Wake up!"
"Peagsus!!"
"Yugi!"
There was a hard shove to the left. He gasped when he looked into those cold blue eyes.
"Kaiba?"
"We're here."
Seto stepped out of the limo. Mokuba was close behind him, staring at Yugi.
"Are you ok, Yugi? You were talking in your sleep."
"I'm ok, Mokuba. Just tired. I..."
He looked down at his hands. Blood.
"No!!" Yugi jumped back into the big car. Kaiba grabbed him by the shoulders.
"Kaiba... The blood...I can't...It won't stop! I can't make it stop..."
Kaiba shook Yugi a few times to bring him to his senses. "Yugi, there is no blood. You're fine."
The executive pressed his hand against Yugi's forehead. "It's getting worse. The fevers started over England. You started hallucinating about blood and someone's eyes. At one point, it took three of my personelle to wake you. Yugi, what's happening to you?"
Their eyes locked. They both knew that there was no answer to that. Yet.
Kaiba helped Yugi to his feet.
"Do you really think you can do this, Yugi?"
"Yes. I have to, Mokuba. I have no other choice."
The lights were on, and there was a bike sitting outside of the shop. Yugi was hit with a giant wave of familiarity, and of fear. But he steeled himself to it.
"I'm ready."
**
They had all been up to see Yami. Tea was pale from what she had seen. Tristan looked sombre. Mai sat next to Joey, holding his hand and offering strength. They heard the door open and stood.
"Kaiba! What the devil are you doin here?"
"Glad to see you too, Joey." Kaiba marched in and set down his breifcase. "Pegasus has escaped."
The four gasped.
"What do we do?"
"Where is he?"
"How did this happen?"
"Kaiba..." Joey said, slowly, "this can't be happinin now. Yami's real sick, man. I think he's dyin."
"I know, Joey."
"What! How did ya know that! You've been in the states for weeks!"
"Big Brother!" Mokuba ran into the room. He handed Kaiba a cell phone.
"Kaiba here. What? When? I hired you to prevent this, and you've failed. Fix the problem, or I'll have you all drug out into the street and shot like the mangy dogs you are!"
Kaiba roughly handed the phone back to Mokuba. "He's back in Domino. We don't have much time..."
"Wait just a cotton-frickin minuet here, Kaiba. How the hell did you..."
That's when they saw him. Standing shyly in the doorway, almost hiding. Time seemed to slow as they all took in what they saw. Joey stepped forward.
"Yugi?"

I'm SOO sorry! I meant to get this up sooner! I really did! I hate being in suspense, too. I owe you guys big for hanging in there. The next chapter WILL (I'll repeat that and sign it in blood) WILL be up this weekend. No, it's not the end, but I have a good idea of how the end will turn out. And special thanks to "Danny"...you know who you are! ;)
