Revolations
~*~
Time stood still.
Silence.
It was one of those moments where you swear you can see the air move and feel every pulse in the air. Each stood in total shock, none of them wanting to be the first to move, to be the first to confim that this was infact reality. Everyone's mind was racing:
Mai: "Wow, he's back. He's got a lot of nerve, but I guess it's good he's back. Good for everyone..."
Joey: "My God, he's here. He really showed. God."
Tristan: "Is that him? He came back? Where the heck was he for five years? Is this for real?"
Tea: "Yugi? He's...here. How do I...What do I say? He's here."
Yugi: "They're just stareing. Are they scared of me? What have I done? I should never have come back. They don't want me here. I shouldn't have...I never...stop...wait..."
No one realized that Yugi's world had started spinning. They thought he was leaning against the doorframe out of shock or fear. Yugi was breathing hard. Joey decided to step forward first, Mai still close behind him, gripping his hand.
"Yugi, you got my letter? That's why you're here, right?"
Yugi nodded, his face growing pale. He leaned harder against the wall.
"Hey, Yug, it's ok, man." the blond smiled.
"Hey, Yugi...It's been a long time. It's good to see you again." Tristan stepped forward slowly. He smiled. So did Yugi, albeit weakly. His vision was still blurred and his heart was racing. He knew there was something wrong...
"Hey Yugi." It was all Mai could say. She felt so out of place, and she would have left, but she felt Joey's need for support on this.
"Yugi?" Tea moved closer to him, Joey and Tristan besider her. Kaiba and Mokuba had just re-entered the room and were watching with bated breath.
"Yugi...You look good." she smiled. Yugi's smile had vanished, however, and his eyes were as wide as saucers. Tea was the one person he was unsure of. Joey and Tristan weren't there that night.
"I missed you, Yugi. I wish we could have talked...um...It's good to have you home."
Yugi looked as though he was about to say something, but didn't. He couldn't speak, nor breathe. Kaiba, remembering the fevers, had managed to get behind Yugi before he passed out.
--
Bakura was packing his last few things into his suitcase. He smiled. The meeting that morning had been to inform him that he had earned an internship with a huge lawfirm in Tokyo. Within a year of working with this firm, he would have made enough money to not only paid back his remaining student loans, but he would be able to live quite comfortably on his own. He was thrilled at the news. He started as soon as the semester ended, only a few short months away. His father had been estatic when Bakura had called him, and had said that he was very proud, something Bakura had been longing to hear since his father started travelling the world. For now, however, all this would have to be put on hold. Tristan had already left, and Bakura was anxious to get back to Domino and help Yami in any way that he could.
As he snapped his suitcase shut, there was a knock at his door. "Ryou Bakura?"
"Yes, can I help you?"
The man entered the room. He was tall, built like a linebacker and wearing a black suit. Something about him sent shivers down the boy's spine.
"I'm sorry, but you've caught me in quite a hurry, you see, I have a train to catch..." Bakura tried to puch his way past the man, but was shoved to the ground. Bakura tried to stand, but the man held him down, laughing evilly. Two more men entered the room, both the same build as the first. One spoke into a walkie-talkie: "Unit three, target aquired. Mission Accomplished, returning to base with all three hostages."
"I demand to know the meaning of this! Who are you? Who are the other..." Bakura never got the chance to finish, as a cloth was forced over his nose and mouth. A sweet, almost medicinal smell flooded his senses, and he paniced when he recognized it as cloroform. Then there was nothing.
--
Yugi's world had begun to come back into focus. "The fever has broken again, he should be waking up soon."
"What's going on, Kaiba? How long has he been sick like this?" he recognised Mai's voice first.
"I don't think he's sick, Joey. I think it has something to do with the dreams."
"You're sayin the dreams made him pass out?" That was Joey.
"No, you brainless dog, he had a panic attack. The fevers only occur when he's asleep, I think the fevers cause those dreams." Kaiba.
"Alright, Seto Kaiba, M.D...You're sayin that these dreams are caused by the fevers."
"Yes."
Yugi rubbed his temples. The group was to focused on keeping Joey and Kaiba from jumping down eachothers throats to notice him. He sat up, groggy, but aware of where the conversation was going.
"Kaiba, what if the fevers are caused by the dreams? Danny told me that fevers occur when the body is fighting off a virus, or something like that, so what if Yugi's mind is fighting with the dreams?"
"Interesting theory, Tea...Not bad for a cheerleader..."
"Watch it, Kaiba, or you'll be in six pieces, believe me. She's got claws."
Yugi giggled at Tristan's remark, causing everyone to turn.
"Hey, Yug! Welcome back!"
"Thanks, Joey. How long was I out?"
"An hour, again. Just like on the plane." Kaiba was tying away on a laptop, obviously glad the attention had been taken from him. As usual, he had important work to do.
"Yugi," Mokuba sat next to him on the couch. "You were talking in your sleep. Obviously you were having a nightmare. Do you want to talk about it? Sometimes that helps me!" Mokuba smiled.
"I don't know. The dreams are kind of..." he looked up at the faces that surrounded him. If he were to talk about the images he saw, would it help, or jus stir up old pain? "They're personal, Mokuba. Besides, there are things in there that I don't think your brother would want you to hear about."
"Aw, come on Yug!" Joey plopped down next to his friend. "Maybe we can help ya! You know, dreams are all just stuff your head wants to get out there, so lets get it out!"
Yugi looked at Tea. They had always had a strong bond, and that bond had reformed, or maybe Tea just knew, that the dreams were about what happened.
"Yugi, I...I want you to know what's happened since you've been gone. There were some rough spots, sure, but I'm ok! In fact, I'm engaged! I'm happy! And...I'm not mad at you anymore. I know you were just angry, and..."
"No, Tea. You don't understand. I wasn't just angry, I was furious. I was...I don't even know how to say it, but I don't know why. I mean, there was the thing with you and Yami, but I wasn't...I mean...I didn't...It didn't feel real. The reason I left, was becuase I didn't even believe I had done it. I couldn't even imagine myself hurting you, or anyone, like that. I felt like everything was out of my control, so I left. I didn't want to lose control like that again, especially around you guys. That's why I didn't want you to find me. Something just felt so...wrong. So I moved in with some friends. Sometimes, it would come back, the fury, and I would put holes in the walls of my room. I couldn't control it. Eventually it just stopped, but I don't know why."
Silence, again, took over the room while everyone took in Yugi's story. Including the tall, pale figure standing behind them all.
"Yugi, I knew you'd come home..."
Everyone gasped. Yugi stood; this time it was his turn to be in shock.
"Yami?"
Joey stood, letting go of Mai's hand for the first time since Yugi got there, and vaulted over the couch. "Yami! What the heck are you doing out of bed! Better yet, what the heck are you doing awake!? when I left you were nearly..."
"I know, Joey. But he's here. I told you he'd come..."
Yami, still weak, dropped to his knees. Yugi ran to him. The rest of the group kept their distance, Mai pulled Joey back.
"Yami, what's happened to you?"
"Yugi, something has happened. I don't know what it is, but there has been dark energy building since you left. I couldn't...It's been draining on me, Yugi, but you're here now. We can face this together."
"Yami, I'm not who I used to be. I...I'm not who I was."
"I know. Everyone grows up, Yugi, but there are a rare few who are pure. Those are the ones who stay innocent forever, no matter who they become. They are the light. You are the light."
"You would still say that after all I've done?"
"Yugi, without light, there can be no darkness."
Yugi looked into the Phaero's eyes, then both smiled.
"I hear you, Yami."
"The link was never broken, Yugi, you see, I..."
Yami stopped short. Yugi clutched him as he cried out in pain. Tremors ripped through his body. Joey broke free of Mai's grasp. "Yugi, help me get him back upstairs!"
The two gingerly picked up the Ancient soul, but he moaned again. Rather than risk hurting him more, Joey and Yugi laid him on the couch. As Yugi pulled blankets up over the shaking spirit, the phone rang. Tristan ran into the other room to get it.
"Don't worry, Yami. I'm here now..." Yugi said.
"Hey, you guys, does anyone here know a 'Darcy LaBrosse?"
Yugi's ears perked at that. "Yeah!"
He jumped up to grab the phone. "Hello, Darcy? Oh, sorry. Yes, I do. What? I don't understand. When? No, she's not here...Yeah, sure. Thank you."
He turned back to his friends. "Darcy is my girlfriend from Toronto. That was someone from the airport, saying they have her luggage, but she never picked it up. They said she was on a flight this morning, but I didn't..."
The phone rang again. Yugi answered.
"Turtle Game Shop."
"Hello, Yugi-boy, glad to hear you're back in Domino, things were so frightfully dull without you here. Now, be a good boy and put me on speaker, so all your little friends can hear me."
Yugi just held the phone for a second. "Yug, man, you look like you've seen a ghost! Who is it?"
Yugi looked at Kaiba, then at Yami, then at Joey.
"Pegasus."
He hit the speaker button on the phone while the others stood agast.
"Hello my old friends. It's so good to see that you're all in good health. Kaiba-boy and you're little Mokuba, it's been a long time! Tristan...Tea, and even after all our Yugi-boy has done? You're more forgiving than I'd be. And Mai Valentine. It was such a treat to watch you duel, I can't wait to see you in action again. Oh, and it looks like you've gotten yourself a puppy! How disgustingly romantic. Do yourself a favor, Joey, get her a big, pretty ring so you'll both have something so beautiful too stare at."
Joey growled. If he could have jumped through the phone and throttled that silver haired freak, he would have.
"And poor, poor Phaero, tisk tisk. Or is it Yami now? I find it so hard to keep track. I hear you have a nasty little bug. Too bad. I assure you, I send my deepest condolences."
The stickey sweet voice on the line broke into a fit of evil laughter. When he spoke again, Pegasus' voice was not so pleasent.
"Now, lets cut to the chase, shall we? Yugi, I know that you, Yami and Kaiba are all there, so listen up. I'm going to give you some directions, and you're going to follow them. I'll even speak slowly and use small words so you can all understand. I can't affford any screw-ups."
"I don't think you're in any place to be giving orders, Pegasus." Kaiba said. Little did the group know, but as soon as Pegasus had started talking, Kaiba had gone into his own computer system and put a trace on the number Pegasus had dialed from. In seconds, Kaiba knew that the number would come up, and a few dozen of his thugs would have the psychotic duelist in custody. "Really, Kaiba-boy? You think that all of you're little gadgets are going to help you find me? Think again. Oh, and I'd tell your brat to step back from the computer."
"What?" Kaiba looked at the screen. Where there had once been a sophisticated trace program was now a flashing skull and cross-bones. "No!" Kaiba yelped. Sparks began to fly from the laptop's drivers, and Kaiba jumped from his seat, pushing Mokuba to the side and out of the path of the deconstructing piece of hardware.
"I hope no one got hurt, ha ha."
Yugi tuned back to the phone "What do you want, Pegasus?"
"For now, only for you all to do as I say."
"And why should we. For all we know, this could be a trap!"
"Stupid boy. Of course it's a trap! Only, the outcome is up to you!"
"What do you mean?"
"Pay attention, Yugi-boy. This is important. You, Kaiba and that pathetic alter ego of yours will meet me at the docks in exactly one hour."
"That's it?"
"Hey, Yug!" Joey was at his side now. "We don't gotta do nothin. This creep ain't givin us no orders. We got the Millenium puzzle, remember, and I'd bet my deck that's what he's after. He ain't got nothin!"
"Right!" Tea stepped up. "Pegasus is in no place to be making demands!"
There was laughter on the line. "Hey, What's so funny?" Joey snapped.
"Well, well, Joey, nothing ever changes. You're still dead wrong!"
"What?"
"I'm not after that stupid puzzle. You see, I have all the power I'll ever need. And also, I can make all the demands I want. You see, I have a few things that belong to you..."
The line was quiet for a second, then a muffled: "Say hello to your little friends."
"Yugi! Don't listen to him! Please!"
Tristan and Joey jumped. Mai grabbed Joey's hand. "That's Bakura!"
"Yes! He's holding us prisoner. Please, Yugi, listen to me! Don't..."
"That's enough out of you." Bakura's voice was muffled, obviously gaged.
"Leave him alone, you creep!" Tea yelled at the phone.
"Who, Bakura? Oh, my dear Tea, that's the least of your worries..."
Another voice came across: "Tea? Honey, are you there?"
"Danny!" Tea screamed.
"Tea, I love you! Please, get out of there! Get as far away from him as you can. lease, baby, please don't let him find you! I *muph*!"
The frantic male voice was stifled, much like Bakura's. Tea collapsed to the floor, her body wracked with sobs.
"You monster!"
"Oh, Tea. You future hubby may be charming, but he's not the brightest bulb in the box. I'd find you either way. All of you. You see, there's no point in running."
"Stop this, Pegasus! Let them go!"
"Is that you, Yugi-boy? Good, Good...there's someone here who'd like to say hello..."
Another rustling was heard, then a voice that made Yugi's heart stop.
"Yugi?"
"Darcy?" He whispered the name. It was all he could do.
"Yugi, I'm sorry. I wanted to find you! I don't care what happend in the past. I wanted you to know that. I love you, Yugi!"
"Oh, Darcy...I love you so much." Yugi was crying now.
"That's quite enough, don't you think? She's a lovely girl Yugi. It would be a shame if something happened to her..."
"No!"
"Good, then we have a deal. And you have exacly 49 minets, Yugi-boy. I suggest you hurry, I don't like to be kept waiting."
Pegasus' laughter could barely be heard over Tea's sobs. Or the blood pounding in Yugi's ears.
There was a click, then the line went dead.

~*~ Wow...that was really long. Ok, on to the next chapter!
