Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Fury ❯ Sacrifice ( Chapter 8 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Scratch: the tension's killing me! The title makes sense at the end, and no, it has nothing to do with the Madonna movie...
WARNING: This one's got some graphic violence. I kept it pretty obscure for the sake of the faint of heart, but I think it's still pretty red.
A Certian Sacrifice
Tristan and Tea watched as their friends vanished into the black night. Mokuba sat pouting in the car. "Seto always worries that I'm gonna get hurt, and that everything's too dangerous. Well, how am I supposed to learn to stand up for myself if he's always fighting the bad guys while I'm on the sidelines?"
"But your brother just wants you to be safe, Mokuba," Tea sat across from him in the limosine. "He doesn't want to see anything happen to you. Some day you'll get to go on adventures of your own, but right now, you're just not ready!"
"Hah. That's great. Well, some day isn't soon enough."
"You're right, Mokuba!" Tristan quipped from outside.
"What?"
"You heard me Tea. Sorry, but you're off your stick. Kids have got to learn to fight off bullies."
"You mean bullies like you and Joey?" Tea said condecendingly.
Tristan sweatdropped. "Right...but that's different. And that's not the point. I mean, I just think every kid should know how to throw a decent punch!"
Mokuba's face lit up and he lept from the car. "Wow! Hey, Tristan, will you teach me?"
"Sure thing, kid! Now first..."
"Oh, brother." Tea turned her back to the scene. She didn't even have time to react to the hands that covered her mouth and pulled her from the car. The boys didn't notice either.
"No, no, Mokuba, you're stance is all wrong, and your thumb has to be on the outside of the fist..."
"Like this?"
"Yeah, that's better, now, don't just swing, you gotta push your hand out. Hard and fast. That's it! You catch on fast!"
"Thanks, Tristan! Is this good?"
"No, more like this..." A dark figure stepped between the two. There was the crack of a fist connecting with Tristan's face, then Mokuba's muffled screams. Then silence...
--
The door to the building pushed open with an eerie creak. water could be heard dripping to the floor. The place was dark and still.
"Are you sure this is the place Kaiba?"
"Shut up, Joey."
With that, lights flashed on, momentarily blinding the group.
"Welcome, my old friends, it's so good to see you all again..."
"Pegasus!"
"That's right, Kaiba-boy. It's been a long time."
"Unfortuantly, not long enough."
The group of duelists were beginning to regain their sight. There were two people tied to poled in the middle of the room, but were still too darkened to identify, and several dozen men in black suits all over the room. Two more people stood near a far table.
"Now, now, Ms. Valentine. Or is it Mrs. Wheeler? You know I'm just terrible with details like that..."
"My god," Mai whispered to Joey, "The eye. He has his Milennium eye back!"
"That's right, my dear, a good friend returned it to me..."
"Enough games, Pegasus. What do you want? And where is the other hostage?"
"Is that you Phaero? Glad to hear that you're feeling better. I was so deeply concerned. And is that little Yugi-boy I see? Back from Canada into his own personal nightmare...Speaking of which, how have you been sleeping lately?"
"Alright, Pegasus...Tell us whatcha want, so we can give it to ya and you can give us our friends back!"
Joey stepped forward, and the sound of a gun loading was heard. "Patience, Joey. It seems one of my comerades has an itchy trigger finger, and we wouldn't want anyone getting hurt, would we?"
Mai took Joey's arm, and he stepped back.
"A wise choice. Now, Phaero, you asked about the hostages, but they're all here and accounted for..."
Another light flashed on. The poles were now well lit.
"Darcy! What have you done to her?!" Yugi would have made a dash for her, except Yami was already holding him back.
"I assure you, it's nothing worse than what I will do if anyone comes even one step closer."
"Who's that on the other pole, and where's Ryou Bakura?" Kaiba asked. He cooly crossed his arms over his chest, his hand brushing over the gun he had concealed in his long coat.
"I'm right here, mortal." Yami Bakura stepped forward into the light, Pegasus right next to him. "You see, I don't need to be held. Pegasus and I have made a few arrangements, all in my favor."
"Tomb Raider!" Yami realized it before everyone else.
"You are correct, your Majesty," Bakura nearly spit the words out. "and as for the other man, I think that's best answered by your little friends..."
More guards appeared pushing three people into the room.
"No! Mokuba!" Kaiba lunged forward, but stopped dead when a gun was placed firmly on his young brother's temple.
"For an executive, Kaiba-boy, you don't follow orders well. This is you last chance. One more screw up and the brat will be the first to fall."
The man on the pole, now barely concious with the cold, lifted his head. "Tea?"
"Danny!" A guard held her tightly, so all she could do was scream.
"Tea, I told you to leave."
"I couldn't just leave you here. I'm so sorry. I love you!"
"I love you, too."
"Danny-boy was right, Tea. You should have left town and never have come here." Pegasus walked over to Danny, and then turned back to Bakura. Something unspoken passed between them, and the evil spirit turned back to a table.
"You see, everything was all planned out. Darcy world bring Yugi back. Yugi and Yami are practically the same person, and, I would assume that he still sees himself as your so-called guardian, so I could guarentee his being here. Kaiba would obviously use this oppertunaty as revenge for my trapping him and his brother in Duelist Kingsom, so here he is, as well as his pet shadow, Mokuba. Joey would follow Yugi to his grave if he could, and Tristan and Mai would follow him. That gives me the four highest ranked duelists in the world, the executive of KaibaCorp, and the Millenium Puzzle. Plus a few ancillery characters in my little story, all expendable, of course."
"That's right. And your Danny will soon be an fine new host body for me, as soon as I distroy his soul. And when I leave, Ryou's poor little mind will collapse." Yami Bakura grinned, his hands behind his back.
"Yes, well, a minor detail. But you, Tea, you and Tristan and Mokuba, you really don't have much purpose here. Except as sacrifices..."
"No!" Danny screamed from his pole. Darcy raised her head. She was so near to death that she couldn't comprehend more that the fact that someone was yelling.
"That is, unless Yugi surrenders." Pegasus began walking toward Yugi, a smug smile on his face.
"What, Pegasus? What do you want?"
"Weren't you listening? Pay attention, you little twerp, or your girl will meet a watery grave! I want the Puzzle! I want the Phaero, and I want his power!"
No one noticed Bakura pacing infront of Tea. He was growing impatient. Before the lights had came on, he had preformed the ritual to prepare himself, and for him to break the soul of his new host. Tea's death would destroy him, according to Pegasus. Unfortunatly, the spell allowed him only 30 minuets to transfer his conciousness, and now only precious few remained.
"I will never surrender to you Pegasus." Yami was saying. Yugi looked up at him and saw the resolve in his eyes. They both knew that if Pegasus got the puzzle, the world would be lost. The power of puzzle, combined with that of the eye was enough to overpower any of the other items.
"Fine. Then I'll destroy the Puzzle and you along with..."
There was a scream. Everyone, including Pegasus, turned in time to see Tea fall to the ground with a knife in her chest.
"Tea!"
"No!"
"You fool!" Pegasus screamed. "Not yet!"
"I'm running out of time! If you'd have just killed them all as you planned instead of these games, I wouldn't have had to improvise!"
"Improvise! I'll show you improvisation!" Pegasus whirled. There was a flash of silver and a loud bang. The water around Danny's feet became deep red.
"You eccentric bastard! He was my host! You've ruined this! All of my work! Well then...If I can't have my host, you can't have the puzzle!"
Bakura pulled the blade from Tea's chest and rammed it into his gut. Suddenly, there was a flash from the puzzle, and one piece, the one with a piece of Bakura's soul inside, turned black.
"What's this? I don't understand!" Yami fell to his knees, clutching his chest. The puzzle had been sustaining Yami's solid form. Whatever had happened, had injured Yami severly.
"No! The Puzzle! What..." Pegasus' eyes burnt with rage now. Yugi felt a sharp pain in his temple.
"You're soul took over that piece, and with you dead, the piece is worthless. The puzzle is corrupt! You little wretch!"
Bakura laughed, then coughed. A thin trail of blood trickled to his chin as he slid to the floor.
"Until next time, Yami..."
There was a flash, and the spirit was gone, leaving behind the broken, bleeding shell of Ryou.
Pegasus shook with rage. Then began he laughed, quietly at first, but louder as a new plan began to form...
"You! Yugi Mouto...You are the cause of all of this! And now you will finish it."
"What?" Yugi backed away from the silver-haired man as he stalked forward.
"You're little incident was my crowning achievement. I assume by now you or the decrepant excuse for a king over there have discovered my little garden in your soul room..."
Yami was lying on the floor, not far from where Pegasus was walking. His energy was fading fast as the puzzle-piece Bakura had inhabited began to decintigrate. "You! You were the cause. You were the reason for this!"
Yami's revolation was cut short by a swift kick to the abdomen. Joey ran to Yami's aid, but Pegasus pulled his gun. "Stop, fool. Or you'll end up like your friends..."
Mai pulled Joey back as Pegasus continued. "He's right, you know. While in the institution, I used what magics I had left inside me to turn the small amount of jelousy you held for Yami into a full blown rage. Unfortunatly, I couldn't control the direction of the rage, which lead to Tea's role as a punching bag. None of this should have ever happened, Yugi, but it did."
The pain in Yugi's temple became greater. In his soul room, the tree began to grow, throbbing and swelling as Pegasus began to fuel the fury within the boy.
"If you had only killed the Phaero, as I had planned, none of this would have happened."
Yugi tried to shake the feeling, but couldn't. His head began to swim...
"Yami would be gone, and you would have faded away, having nothing to complete the balance of your soul..."
In the fog of his mind, Yugi felt everything click sharply into place. Without Darkness, there can be no light. Without Yami, Yugi would crumble to dust. Pegasus would have done away with both of them.
"Now's your chance, little Yugi...Fix the mistake you should never have made."
Yugi fought with all his strength, but in his mind, the tree had taken over and smothered everything left of Yugi's reality.
It was an odd sensation, really. The tree's take over of Yugi's mind forced his conciousness from his body. Yugi's spirit was now floating above the scene. He wasn't dead, just temporarily displaced. It was exactly how he had felt that night with Tea.
Yugi watched himself take the knife from Ryou's stomach. He screamed at himself to stop, but the knide was now pressed against Yami's throat. Yami's eyes pleaded with Yugi. It was more than Yugi cold take. He refused to watch himself kill the one person who he had shared so much with, and who he had let down those five years ago. Using all of the strength he had, Yugi forced himself back into his body.
Everything happened so quickly. They say a moment like this moves in slow motion, but it doesn't. Everything just swirled around him.
Yugi dropped the knife, screaming at the pain exploding in his head. Pegasus, in a burst of pure rage, flung his arm out. Gunshots here heard as Tristan and Mokuba fell to the floor. Joey lunged at Pegasus, and was met by a shotgun blast to the stomach. Kaiba pulled his gun and began firing at Pegasus, tears streaking down his cheeks. Mai, who was moving to her fallen lover, screamed as she was hit by stray bullets. Kaiba fell back, shocked as yet another piece of flying metal pierced his chest.
Then Pegasus turned, his face bright red, his eyes wild as he pointed the gun at Yugi.
"Goodbye, Yugi-boy..." he growled.
Yugi shut his eyes and prepared for oblivian. The shot was heard, but Yugi felt nothing.
'This must be it. This must be death...' Yugi thought. Yet, he felt no pain. All he felt was an odd pressure against his chest, like something was pushing against him. Or someone...
"Yami..."

I had to end it there. Sorry, but I have a hard time writing violence. It's a writing thing. Anyways, 1 more chapter! Maybe 2. we'll see. If it's 2, the next one will be short. Anyways, gotta go do something called homework. Aparently we were supposed to be doing it all year...Whatever...
