Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Fury ❯ Fate ( Chapter 9 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Scratch: Finally! The last chapter. (Or, is it...see note post-fic) Don't get me worng, I had a great deal of fun writing Fury, and I will be writing more in the future, but this was never supposed to be a more-than-one-shot fic. Oh, well, if all of you enjoyed it, it was definatly worth while.
Also: I know that Yugi doesn't meet Marik or Ishizu untill Battle City, but lets assume they did, ok?
Fate
The van pulled up the the warehouse and jarred to a sudden stop. The passenger and driver's doors flew open, and the two lept from the car.
"Are you sure this is the place?"
"Of course. The necklace is never wrong..."
From the building fog, a shadow appeared.
"You're here, good."
"I came as soon as I got your message. Are you sure the vision was accurate, Ishizu?"
"You of all people should know the power of the Millenium items, Shadi."
"You seriously think that this is it, Ishizu? The end of existance?"
"It will be, Marik, if we don't change the events..."
A loud gunshot was heard, followed by another. The three dashed to the building, fearing that they were already to late.
--
"Yami!"
Yugi held the former Phaero, twisting his own body so that he was not crushed as they both fell back.
Pegasus only laughed: "Nothing to worry about, Yugi-boy, you'll be joining him shortly..."
Yugi looked up at the mad man, Yami in his arms. Tears were welling up in his eyes. Pegasus aimed, then pulled the trigger...
*click*
"What?!"
*click*
"NO!! Cursed Phaero!! You...YOU!!" Pegasus lunged for Yugi's throat. Then, out of nowhere, there was a loud bang. Pegasus's face went chalk white, a hand pressed to his chest as the blood seeped through his shirt. He collapsed. Yugi turned to see a very pale Seto Kaiba, his entire right side soaked in red. (Remember, your heart's on the left... :) )
"Kaiba?"
Kaiba dropped the gun from his hand and slowly walked up to Yugi. He fell to his knees.
"Yugi...I can't...I'm too weak...Mokuba..."
Yugi nodded and stood. He approached Mokuba, being careful not to look at Tristan. He didn't think he could stand to see his fallen friend.
Mokuba was grey pale, his eyes eternally closed. Yugi picked up his limp hand. It was cold and limp. He held on the the small boy's wrist for a few seconds, then looked back at Seto and shook his head. The corperate executive, who was renound for his heart of stone, bowed his head, his body shaking with sobs.
Yugi stood. He saw the bodies of Joey and Mai not far from where Kaiba was sitting, and quickly turned his head away. Unfortunatly, he turned in the direction of Tea and Bakura. Yugi backed up, a hand on his mouth, fighting his gag reflex. Tears streaking down his face, he returned to Kaiba. He put a hand on the boy's shoulder. Both sobbed for a second, mourning their lost friends and family. Suddenly, Yami coughed.
"Yugi..." His voice was weak. The wound should have been fatal...
"Yami... why? Why after all of this?"
"You are the light, Yugi. You had to survive. And I...You're my best friend. Ever since you let me out of that puzzle..."
"But Yami...Look at what I've done. To you, to poor Tea, to everyone...If it wasn't for me, you'd all be alive..." Yugi's voice broke.
"No, light...don't ever think that. This isn't because of you. We're al here because we love you. We always... I always will."
Yami's eyes fluttered closed.
"No..."
Yugi placed a hand on Yami's chest. He felt the last breath of 5000 years escape the Phaero's mortal body. He looked up. And saw Darcy.
"No! Darcy!"
There were no wounds on her body, but she was cold nonetheless. Yugi's hands shook as he touched her frozen face. She died long before anyone else, Yugi knew it. He didn't even hear the door open as he kissed her icy-blue lips one last time.
"Yugi!"
"My god..."
"Kiaba, what happened?"
The three other holders of millenium items ran into the building. Ishizu stopped short, gripping Marik's shoulder for support, bracing herself at the bloody scene. Even Shadi turned away for a second.
"What are you three doing here?" Yugi said, still clinging to his lover.
"My millenium necklace gave me a vision of the end of the appocolipse. Pegasus was going to bring about the end of the world, not just you and Yami."
"How?"
"Yugi and Yami are more than just each other's light and darkness, they are the light and the dark of the world. If they are destroyed, the world's ballance between good and evil will collapse on itself!"
"You're too late, Ishizu. Yami's...gone" Yugi could barely bring himself to say it. The thought of life without his second half, now that he knew that Yami still cared for him... It was too much for him.
"No, Yugi." Shadi stepped forward. "We still have time..."
"Damn!" Marik had his fingers pressed to Yami's throat. "You're right. The Phaero's gone. Now I'll never have his power, I'll never be Phaero myself!"
Yugi stepped forward, his eyes dark.
"Is that all you think about, Marik? Huh?! Power?! My friends, My family, Everyone I care about is dead, and you..."
Yugi raised his hand to Marik, prepared to backhand him. A gleam on his hands caught his eyes...blood. Blood on his hands...
"No...NO!"
In his mind, he could see it all... The blood of his friends mixing into one. Their voices, fresh in his memory, screaming in pain. Yami's voice: "Save Me..."
"Marik, you selfish..." that was Kaiba's voice, but it was just barely above the din of Yugi's tortured mind.
"Both of you, stop it! Shadi, help me. His mind is collapsing, and if we lose them both, all will be lost..."
Yugi found himself being supported by Ishizu and Shadi, Kaiba grudgingly accepting Marik's hand.
"What?"
Yugi was seated next to Kaiba on the floor. Ishizu went to Bakura and gingerly lifted the millenium ring from his neck.
"You see, with all of the millenium items together, we have supreme power. If we focus all of the item's power on the millenium necklace, we can turn back time, and fix this." Shadi spoke. Marik went to Pegasus.
"This'll hurt you more than it'll hurt me..." He snickered as he plucked the millenium eye from the body of the Crazed man.
"But, I don't understand." Kaiba spoke up first, "If we turn back time, how can we fix this? If we go into the past, this will never have happened, so won't we lose our memories?"
"No. But they will." Marik looked at the bodies around them as his sister sat next to Yugi.
"that's right. They no longer exist in this time, therefore they won't remember any of it. Just us."
"You mean, I'll get my friends back? I'll get Yami and Darcy and everyone back?"
The three looked at eachother, then looked at Yugi. How could they break it to those hopeful eyes after all he'd abviously seen?
Kaiba moaned in pain. "Shadi, we don't have time for this..." Marik said. He was aware of what would happen, but if Kaiba were to die before the ritual, there would be no one to hold Bakura's item...
"Yugi...we would have to go back to the time before your...outburst. It was the catalist. In fact, we would have to go back to the point where Pegasus began developing his mental powers, allowing him to control you. None of that can happen."
"So you mean, Darcy and I would never meet?"
"I'm sorry."
"But she'd be alive?"
"Yes, of course."
"then lets do this. If she's alive, then it doesn't matter. Even if we never meet...She would be happy. She would get to live. And that's what I want."
"Ok."
With that, the items were taken out by their perspective owners: Shadi with the key and the scales, Ishizu, having placed her necklace in the centre of the circle they were now sitting in, took the eye, Kaiba was given the ring, Marik with the rod and finally Yugi with the puzzle.
Together, they focused their collective energies on the necklace. the building swayed with the power of the ancient pieces, and the bodies of the dead began to disapear. Suddenly, ther was a bright light...

/.../ Yami to Yugi
//...// Yugi to Yami)
Yugi woke in his bed, startled. He had sworn it was a dream, but it was so real...
/Are you alright, Yugi?/
//Yami?...//
the phone rang. Yugi was still sorting through his emotions, trying to figure out what was real...
"Yugi! Telephone!"
"Ok, Grandpa!" Yugi ran downstairs to answer the phone. He wasn't sure he was ready to answer Yami's question yet.
"Hello?"
"Yugi? This is Ishizu."
"Ishizu? What's up?"
"It worked, Yugi. We're exactly 6 years into the past!"
'So it was real...' Yugi thought...
/What was real? what is going on, Yugi?/ Yugi decided to brush off that question too, for now...
"So, what now?"
"Shadi is on the way to the facility where Pegasus is being held. He will block the mental powers before they even start to develop. Yugi, you and your friends are now safe."
"Thank you, Ishizu."
With that, Yugi hung up the phone.
/Yugi, please tell me what has happened?/
Yugi thought to himself for a second.
//Yami, something happened. something terrible, in the future. it's hard to explain, but I lost everyone I cared about. Including you. Marik, Ishizu, Shadi and I, with Kaiba's help, managed to use the millenium items to change all that. But I want you to know, that I think of you as a brother, and that I would never do anything to hurt you.//
Yami was confused by this. Why couldn't he remember if Yugi could?
/*sigh* I trust you, Yugi. And I feel the same way./
The phone rang again, and Yugi picked up right away.
"Yugi Mouto, please."
"Kaiba? Did Ishizu call you, too?"
"Yes. And I've made sure that Pegasus will never bother us again. as of this afternoon, he's being transferred to a high-risk facility for the crimminally insane in Washington. He'll be under 24 hour survailance."
"Thank you."
"Mokuba doesn't remember anything, thank the gods. What about the others?"
"Yami doesn't remember anything. I haven't heard from anyone else yet."
"Good. It's best that way. Oh, and Yugi..."
"Yes?"
"I put in a call to a friend. Darcy Labrosse is currently enrolled in St. Paul's Secondary School in Mississauga. She's in grade 11, and an exceptional student. I have a phone number..."
"No, Kaiba. It would be wrong. She'll be better off not knowing."
"Fair enough, Yugi."
"Kaiba?"
"Hm?"
"Thank you. For that, and for findng me."
Yugi would never know, but on the other end, the executive smiled.
"Well, you just keep the outbursts to a minimum, and we'll call it even. Good-bye."
The reciever clicked. Yugi found out soon enough that Joey, Tristan, Mai, Bakura and Tea didn't remember anything. He missed Darcy terribly, but resigned himself to the fact that the future had changed, and there was really nothing he could do. Life went on as if nothing had happened.
