Ch. 8: Love For All Eternity

The soft, gentle kiss had ended, and Dwenny pulled back and opened her eyes. She gasped when she saw that she was in different surroundings. Startled, she glanced around quickly, noting the Egyptian hieroglyphic-filled walls, the massive stone pillars, and various other curious objects around the room. She had turned to look around so quickly, that she would have tumbled off of the couch, had it not been for the strong arms around her waist. Dwenny stopped herself- wait a minute, strong arms? Then she remembered: Yami! She turned her head towards him, and let out another gasp of surprise, her emerald eyes widening. He was no longer dressed in the blue-ish outfit that he usually wore, but was now adorned in an outfit fit for a Pharaoh: silky white pants and tunic, a large golden band that kept a fine dark red cope around his shoulders, and of course the Millennium Puzzle. Dwenny could feel the slight pressure of the several golden bracelets on his arms. Curiously, she glanced down at her own clothing, and was surprised to find that she was wearing a long cream colored dress, with some gold trimmings here and there. She could feel a light band around her head, as well as something heavy resting on her forehead.

Yami noticed the bewildered expression on Dwenny's face. "Is something wrong, my love?" he asked gently, concern filling his voice. "You seem much disoriented all of a sudden."

Dwenny quickly regained some of her composure. "No…I'm fine. I guess I was just thinking about something, that's all." She smiled slightly. Suddenly, she sensed something coming from beyond one of the many windows in the room. Before Yami could say anything, she removed herself from his embrace and walked quietly over to the nearest window. She could feel Yami's curious gaze on her, but he didn't say anything.

Placing her hands on the stone window sill, Dwenny looked out of the window curiously, wondering what had caused her senses to prick up like that. She saw a beautiful lush garden, and a large stone wall behind it that appeared to encircle the palace. (She had guessed that since Yami was dressed as a Pharaoh, they were in his palace.) Beyond the stone wall, she could see several small stone buildings with canvas coverings, and beyond those she saw what looked like stone temples of some sort. Dwenny frowned a little. None of this seemed out of ordinary, enough to get her magick senses tingling. Maybe she had just imagined it.

Suddenly, Dwenny felt a powerful dark and evil force slam into her, causing her to fall back with a cry. She fell with a loud thud to the ground. Yami was at her side in an instant, helping her up into a sitting position and letting her lean back against him in the circle of his arms. "Are you alright?" he asked worriedly.

Dwenny stared at the window, a hand clutching her heart. "So much evil…it's almost too unbearable!" she whispered, fear echoing in her words.

Yami glanced up at the window briefly, then back at Dwenny. He could feel her trembling against him, her fear and distress radiating off her body. Cursing under his breath, he scooped her up into his arms and carried her back to the couch, away from the window. He then placed her as gently as he could down on the couch. He quickly sat next to her, wrapping his arms around her in a warm, comforting embrace. Dwenny immediately buried her face into his shoulder, her eyes shut tightly.

For what seemed like a long time they stayed like that, Yami keeping his arms tight around her. He glanced back at the window. Through his Millennium Puzzle, he too sensed a dark force, but only faintly. He knew that his love was much more sensitive to dark magick than he was, so it must have affected her greatly. He cursed whatever it was that had caused his love so much pain, and vowed to destroy it as soon as possible.

Now that she was away from the window, Dwenny was beginning to feel a bit better. She had stopped trembling at least in Yami's strong, reassuring arms. She opened her eyes as she slowly lifted her head from Yami's shoulder. She gazed up into a very concerned pair of ruby red eyes. Dwenny nodded that she was fine now. Yami smiled in relief. He raised a hand to gently brush back some of her wild, dark bangs. His fingers brushed lightly against the long jagged scar on her right cheek.

Dwenny sighed. But the peaceful moment didn't last long. Feeling the evil force tugging at her senses, Dwenny started to turn back towards the window, but was stopped by Yami. She looked at him, who gently shook his head and said gently, "There's no need for that. I know it's there."

"But it's so close-," Dwenny started to argue, but was cut off by Yami placing a finger against her lips.

"I know. But you have nothing to fear. I won't let it harm you, my love." He smiled. However, his smile faded at her next words.

"I don't fear for myself," she said quietly. Her emerald eyes locked onto Yami's crimson ones. "It's you I fear for, my beloved." She reached up with one hand and gently brushed some of his long golden bangs out of his eyes. "All of this evil is directed against you, my sweet Pharaoh. And only you. And I fear that…" She paused, looking down and away from Yami.

Yami place his index and middle fingers under her chin, and gently lifted her face, raising her eyes to meet his once more. "Sekhmet, what is it that you fear?" He searched her eyes for an answer.

"I fear that…" Dwenny started off slowly, "…that the evil is too strong, and that you will be lost to me forever," she finished quietly. Her eyes darkened with sadness.

Yami sighed, then smiled lightly. "With you by my side as my love and powerful sorceress, how can anything oppose me? But no matter what happens, remember this: I will always love you, in this life, and in the next, for all eternity." With that, he leaned down and caught her lips in a deep kiss. Dwenny closed her eyes, letting herself get lost in his kiss, momentarily forgetting the imminent danger ahead…

*******************************

With a gasp, Dwenny broke away from Yami. Her eyes were large with surprise as she saw Yami's regular blue outfit, then glanced around the room. They were back in Yami's room. Dwenny blinked a few times and shook her head before returning her gaze to Yami. He was staring at her with large, surprised eyes as well.

"What…what just happened there?" he asked uncertainly.

Dwenny stared at him. "So you saw it too?"

"Yes…was that…the past?" He looked at her with wonder and confusion.

Dwenny nodded. "Yes, I think it was." She paused. "So it appears that you were a Pharaoh in Ancient Egypt…"

"Yes…I know." Yami looked down sheepishly, not wanting to see her reaction.

Dwenny blinked a few times before speaking. "You…you know? But how? When?" And why didn't you tell me before? was the other question that popped into her head. But it went unspoken.

Yami, still avoiding her gaze, replied, "From a woman named Ishizu Ishtar. Her Millennium Necklace allows her to see into the past. She is an Egyptian scholar, hosting an Egyptian exhibit at the Domino Museum." He looked up, daring to meet her eyes. He was surprised to find understanding in them.

Neither spoke for a few moments, each trying to sort out what they had seen, and their own feelings. Yami finally cleared his throat. "We should probably get back to Yugi. He's probably worried sick by now."

Dwenny nodded, standing up. "Yes. He's been worried about you for a while now." She didn't really want to leave Yami's strong arms, but Yugi had probably thought she had gotten lost or something by now.

Yami stood up as well. Then he snapped his fingers, and they were instantly at the front door of his soul room. Yami opened the door, finding an anxious Yugi pacing the hallway. Yugi's eyes lit up when he saw Yami, relief flooding over him. He rushed over to give him a hug. After a moment, he released Yami and stepped back, looking up at him. "Yami! I'm so glad that you're okay." He paused, then glanced at him with concerned eyes. "You are okay, right?"

Yami smiled. "Yes Yugi, I'm fine now. No need to worry." He stepped forward, allowing Dwenny to walk through the door. They shared a brief smile together.

Yugi, noticing something was different between then, smiled in relief. Curiously, he asked, "So…what happened in there?"

Yami told him about the bit of ancient past that they had seen.

Yugi stared at them in wonder. "Whoa…so Dwenny was your sorceress in the past?"

Yami shook his head. "Not quite Dwenny. In the past, I had called her Sekhmet. I think Dwenny is the reincarnation of Sekhmet. That would explain why I feel like I know her from another lifetime…"

"And they look exactly the same?" Yugi asked, still amazed and shocked.

Yami remembered something suddenly. "No…not exactly the same. I remember seeing a long scar on Sekhmet's right cheek."

Dwenny raised her eyebrows in surprise. A scar? Wonder where that could have come from?

"So what do we do now?" Yugi asked.

Yami thought for a moment. "Dwenny seems able to remember some of the ancient past. Perhaps we could unlock some of my memories from her." He looked at her questioningly.

Dwenny furrowed her brow, thinking. "I know of some spells that allow a person to see into their past lives. But they can be unpredictable, uncontrollable. Very dangerous."

"Hmm…" Yami pondered on what to do. Then he thought of something. "Perhaps we can ask Ishizu Ishtar to use her Millennium Necklace to help us see into the past. She was able to see some of it through some ancient records of stone, but perhaps with Dwenny she can gain more detailed insight."

Dwenny nodded. "It's worth a try." She wasn't really sure if she wanted to know more about her past life. But Yami was so determined to find out about his past, that she couldn't refuse helping him.

The three talked for a few moments, agreeing that they would speak to Ishizu tomorrow right after school. Dwenny hugged Yami, then gently gave him a goodbye kiss on the lips. Yami blushed a little after noticing Yugi's grin. He was gonna be hearing about it later that night…

Back in Yugi's living room, Dwenny opened her eyes as she dropped her hands from Yugi's temples. Yugi opened his eyes too, and gave Dwenny a huge grin. He was so happy that things were okay between Dwenny and Yami. He was even more happy that Yami had found his past love, and that they still seemed to share that love.

Dwenny waved goodbye to Yugi, who had walked her to the front door. Once the door closed, Dwenny whistled to Bestian as they headed to her car. As she was unlocking her car door, she sensed dark magick close by, and snapped her head up. But it was too late. She let out a short scream of surprise as she felt strong arms grabbing her from behind. Someone else quickly snapped something metal onto her neck. Feeling her magick being drained from her, all she could catch was a glimpse of brown robes before the darkness engulfed her. She slumped into her attacker's arms unconsciously…

Okey dokes, there you have it! Yeah, I know, it is a bit sappy in the middle. Sorry if it's really bad, but I wrote part of while I was kinda drugged up on meds. I couldn't remember what the show called Ishizu either…so I'm only guessing that it was an Egyptian scholar…my bad if I'm wrong…anyways, next chapter, Yami gets a note saying that Marik's kidnapped Dwenny. He's gonna have to duel to save her! But Marik's gonna get a big surprise by the end of it! :D Thanks for reading and please review!
