Ch 7: Realizations
The little green fireball flew up the nearest staircase, down a passageway a bit, up another stairway, then down another passageway. This continued for quite some time, zigzagging this way and that, seemingly going incredibly deep into Yami's soul room. Dwenny passed by several, several dark doors, but didn't have time to ponder where they led to, as she was furiously trying to keep up with the bright flame. It wasn't long till she began to feel tired, exhausted from running so much. Yami, she thought, where the heck are you hiding? This is getting bit ridiculous…At last, the green fireball stopped at one of the many doors. Dwenny skidded to a halt as the fireball disappeared. She leaned against the wall, catching her breath. Once her breathing had returned to normal, she glanced over at the door she was leaning next to, then back down the long passageway she had just come from. Yami sure knows how to make it difficult for anyone to find him, she thought. No wonder Yugi couldn't reach him.
Dwenny pushed herself off the wall, then faced the door. Not wanting to just barge in and be rude, she lightly knocked on the door.
The light knock on his door started Yami, who sat up straight in his Egyptian style bed. He looked at the door, curious as to who could have found him so deep into his soul room. When he didn't respond to the first knock, as second, louder knock came. The next thing he heard made his heart lift a bit: it was Dwenny's soft, melodious voice. "Yami, I know you're in there. Please open the door."
Yami jumped off of his bed and rushed over to the door. He threw it open without a moment's hesitation. His eyes widened when he saw Dwenny standing there, looking slightly tired. Yami stood there dumbfounded, his eyes still wide from disbelief. What to say, what to do? Part of him wondered why she was here, because she wanted to be and did care for him, or because she had been sent by a concerned Yugi. The other part of him didn't care why she was here, only that she was here. That part of him wanted to rush forward, take her into his arms, and passionately kiss her on the lips.
They stood for in silence for a few minutes, neither knowing what to say. Dwenny took a deep breath and finally broke the silence. "Well Yami, you certainly are a hard one to find. Are you always this difficult?" she said jokingly with a smile.
This, at least, got Yami to relax a little. "Of course, it's one of my best talents," he said with a slight grin.
They both laughed at this, relieving some of the tension in the air. Yami then stepped back, inviting Dwenny to come in. Dwenny walked in past Yami, glancing around the large room as she did. It was very simple, yet elegant, with a large Egyptian style bed, a small table beside it, and a white leather couch off to the side.
Yami came up behind Dwenny, and motioned for her to sit on the white couch. When they were both seated, Dwenny turned to Yami, a kinda sad look on her face. She sighed, she hoped she wasn't too late. "Yami, I'm so sorry for what I've put you through. I had no idea what my sudden departure would do to you. I should have considered your feelings before I acted. I'm so incredibly sorry." Tears started to fall down her cheeks. "I hope you can forgive me," she whispered, her voice barely audible. She buried her face in her hands, letting the tears fall freely.
Yami felt his heart break at seeing her tears. He immediately moved closer to her on the couch, then wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Using his other hand, he gently guided her head so that she could cry on his shoulder. He stroked her hair with his free hand, and murmured into her ear. "There's nothing to forgive. I could never be angry with you."
His words seemed to have soothed Dwenny almost immediately. She lifted her head off of Yami's shoulder, and wiped away the last of her tears. She had thought that she had lost him. It was strange, but she hadn't cried like this in a long time. Not since she had thought she had lost someone very important to her…
*FLASHBACK*
A young girl ran though the castle, her long dark purple braid flying after her. She could barely see where she was going through her tears. "Uncle Max?!" she shouted. "Uncle Max! Where are you?!" She ran into her favorite room, the one filled with her uncle's paintings, and collapsed on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. She had looked everywhere, but he was no where to be found. He had left her, and was truly gone…
*END FLASHBACK*
"Dwenny?"
Yami's soft, deep voice jolted Dwenny out of her memory. She looked up into his deep, ruby red eyes, and gave a small smile, indicating that she was ok. Yami smiled in return. His arm dropped from her shoulders to her waist, and he moved his other arm to circle around her waist as well, lightly holding her to him. Dwenny hesitated, then slowly let her head drop back onto Yami's shoulder, closing her eyes and enjoying his warm embrace and comfort. She finally admitted to herself that she had fallen in love with Yami. She knew very well about the consequences of her love, but she didn't care. She'd worry about them later, when the time comes. For now, she just wanted to enjoy being in Yami's embrace.
Yami closed his eyes and leaned back against the couch, feeling totally relaxed and comfortable. All the feelings of despair and lost that had engulfed him during the past few days seems like an eternity ago to him. He felt so…complete now, his sense of loneliness gone. But one thing still bothered him.
"Dwenny?" Yami opened his eyes and looked down at her.
"Hmmm?" Dwenny opened her eyes as well, and tilted her head up to look at him. "Is something wrong?"
"I was just wondering…what did you see the last time we...kissed? You seemed rather distressed from it."
Dwenny smiled. "I saw us, sharing a passionate kiss." She paused. "We were wearing Egyptian style clothes."
Yami's eyes widened. Did she just say Egyptian clothes? "What do you think it means?"
"Well, some witches believe that it is possible to see images of a past life. Or it could be just my imagination working overtime." She blushed a bit at that last comment.
Yami considered her words. A past life? Then that would mean…of course! That would explain why he feels like he knows her from another lifetime. If the image that she had seen really was of a past life, then that would fit with what Ishizu had told him of his past as an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh, and that Dwenny was the reincarnation of his past love! The thought hit Yami like lightning bolt, and he sat there shocked, trying to let it all sink in.
Dwenny gazed up into Yami's face, curiously watching his reaction. He seems to have come to sort of realization, but she had no idea what it could be. So she waited. She hoped it was a good realization.
"Well, this certainly explains a lot then," Yami said with a short laugh. He smiled down at Dwenny.
Dwenny looked back at him, confused. "Explains what now? You kinda lost me there…"
"Just this feeling that I've had ever since I first saw you. I felt such a strong connection to you, though I had no idea why. Your very essence seemed so familiar to me, yet I could not place its source." He smiled. "And now, it appears that my questions are at long last answered."
Dwenny caught on to what he was saying. "You think that I'm a reincarnation of someone from your past, right?"
Yami nodded. "Yes. If what you say is true, that witches can see images of a past life, then yes, I do believe that that is the answer to my questions."
Dwenny turned from Yami, her thoughts racing. Her and Yami? In ancient Egypt? Could this really be true? So Yami had felt the same connections as she. And now they both knew why. Hmm… the Council wasn't going to like this too much. She doubted if they'd even believe it. She wasn't looking forward to having to meet them again. She glanced back up at Yami's face and sighed. When she had first received her assignment, she never dreamed that something this would have happened. Part of her wished that it never did, as it made things so much more complicated. But whenever she looked into Yami's deep crimson eyes, that part of her simply just disappeared, and she was left only with the part of her that wished this would never end…
Yami stared deep into his new-found love's emerald green eyes. Her eyes told him everything that he needed to know, confirmed his beliefs. She returned the same feelings that he had for her, and that was more than he could have hoped for. Yami couldn't' remember the last time he had felt this way, such a feeling of content and bliss. He reached up with one hand and gently brushed some of her wild bangs from her face. He then tilted her head up a little, closed his eyes, and brought her lips to meet his…
Dwenny closed her eyes as well as she leaned up into Yami's kiss without hesitation. No image could make her run this time. The kiss was short, light, and sweet, and when it ended, Dwenny opened her eyes and was shocked at what she saw.

Whew! Finally! I thought I'd never get through this chapter. Yeesh…took me long enough to write! Yeah, I know, sounds a bit forced, huh? Kinda random at time too…What can I say…I'm not that great at romances, though it's what I like (among other things). *shrugs* Anyways, so what does Dwenny see after her kiss with Yami? Pretty easy to guess, I'd think, given what happened in this chapter and the title…but find out nonetheless in the next chapter! I hope you'll review!
