A/n-Just a quick F.Y.I, this is going to be a relatively short chapter that I needed to get out of the way. Pretty much bird walking the whole time.

Not Enough

The team of spirit detectives assembled themselves inside Koenma's office. Kurama sat in a chair, staring thoughtfully into space, Yusuke and Kuwabara stood arguing at the back, and Hiei took his usual seat on the window sill glaring outside.

Koenma himself chewed on his pacifier, having some seriously dubious thoughts. He knew with utmost certainty that, not even with the help of Genkai, could his little, four-person team hope to defeat their newest foe.

He groaned loudly, the completely random action causing everyone to focus on him. Koenma cleared his throat, which wasn't entirely necessary because all of their attention was already on him, and began.

"As you all know, ever since you completed the mission regarding the tunnel into the Makai and Sensui, it's been quiet." He said, "Almost far too quiet. Kurama and Hiei…" here, he turned to them, " Your sentence serving me is far from complete, but this next task shall be so dangerous and difficult, that should you survive, I will gladly pronounce your sentence fulfilled and well-served."

He stopped to allow them to become suspicious before he continued.

"Everything that has happened in the past has led up to this moment, and the four of you alone will never succeed." Yusuke opened his mouth to suggest something rudely, no doubt, but, amazingly, Koenma silenced him. "No Yusuke. Not even with Genkai's help. Not even by adding Shizuru's new powers and Yukina and Botan's new abilities."

Many things had changed within the Tantei. Genkai's cells had been reverted back to their younger form by Koenma; so once again, she looked exactly 28 years old.

Shizuru had become a useful addition to the team when her spirit awareness had fully peaked and greatly surpassed her brother's. She had also recently acquired her own blood-red spirit sword.

Yukina could now produce shields of pure, thick ice for long periods of time , and she had learned to control her overall control of ice better.

Botan's healing skills now rivaled Yukina's and she had somehow learned to create portals to any time and place she wanted.

Kurama continued to improve his control over plants and had learned many knew techniques with them. He could also revert to Youko whenever he chose.

Hiei recently combined his power over fire with the long-dormant ice control ability related to Yukina's.

Yusuke's powers rivaled, if not surpassed Genkai's.

Kuwabara had cleverly (that is one word you never use in the same sentence as Kuwabara, bless his heart) sacrificed his sword for a while to concentrate on his speed and strength, which had greatly increased.

Koenma looked proudly on his team, but the knowledge that it still wasn't enough raced about his head.

Sighing, he settled down to begin the actual tale. Hiei, who was on the verge of telling him to spit it out and quit wasting his time, caught the sight of Koenma's face. Koenma, in his toddler form, seemed to have aged ten years.

He took a deep breath and began…

a/n- sorry that was so short, but I promise that next time I update, I will do two more chapters! Okay, a little boring, I know, but once I get the actual plot down, it'll get more interesting.

A few things I guess I should mention!

Hiei has told Yukina about their being related in this story.

This will NOT be, I repeat WILL NOT BE, a kuwabara/Yukina pairing. I am in no way, shape or form a kuwa-chan basher, but I just DON'T think he's the right type for her.

Yusuke and Keiko have broken up for this story. The way I picture it, Keiko is a little too, well, helpless for Yusuke. She has no way to protect herself if a demon were looking for a way to get to him through her. I suppose I could have given her some type of powers like I did with Shizuru, but Shizuru already had spirit awareness. Besides, even though I am not a Keiko basher, I just like Shizuru better. NOT a Shizuru/yusuke pairing either.

I want to let it be known that I am a big Shizuru fan. I don't think they do enough with her potentially awesome character in the show. For this fic, I beefed up her stats a little bit and I have every intention of hooking her up with someone really hot before the end.
