Chapter 2

 

Normal POV

 

Yusuke and Genkai both turned towards where they heard the explosion. They saw giant clouds of smoke rising from the west side of the temple.

 

“What the is that?!” Yusuke exclaimed.

 

“How the hell should I know! Well don't just stand there dimwit! Move it!” Genkai yelled.

 

Yusuke and Genkai hurried back to the temple. As they entered the temple they heard a scream.

 

`Shit! That sounded like Yukina!' Yusuke thought.

 

Both of them quickened their pace through the temple, desperate to find Kuwabara and Yukina as quickly as possible. When they found them, in what was once Yukina's room, shocked them. Kuwabara and Yukina were both being suspended in the air by grotesque looking appendages of some kind.

 

“Kuwabara!” Yusuke yelled.

 

Kuwabara continued to struggle against the strange appendages, while Yukina seemed to have passed out from the pain. At hearing his name called Kuwabara strained to turn his head towards the source of the voice. Once he realized who it was that called him he called back.

 

“Urameshi! Hurry up and get us out of here!”

 

“Right!”

 

Yusuke started to run towards whatever it was still hidden by the smoke. Red eyes light up from within the smoke and were visible to everyone in the room.

 

“There you are!” Yusuke yelled.

 

As he ran towards the demon Yusuke began to charge up his Spirit Gun. When he was halfway to the demon he lifted his right index finger and pointed it at the demon.

 

“Take thi… ugh!”

 

Yusuke was knocked to the ground by something slamming into his left side.

 

“Fool,” the demon said.

 

Yusuke grunted as he pushed whatever it was off of him.

 

“What the hell did he… Kuwabara!”

 

Kuwabara held his head with a look of pain on his face. As he recovered he ignored Yusuke and turned to look at the demon. It was still holding Yukina. He stumbled to his feet, refusing to let Yusuke help him up. As they both got to their feet Genkai ran over to them.

 

“You bastard. Let Yukina go!” Kuwabara yelled.

 

After yelling that to the demon they heard a low voice from in the smoke.

 

“What's wrong? Are you too afraid to say anything now that I'm here?” Yusuke taunted.

 

The demon shafted its position, causing it to seem even bigger then before. It pulled Yukina closer to itself.

 

“I called your large friend a fool,” it said.

 

“What!” Kuwabara yelled.

 

The demon begun to chuckle.

 

Losing what little patience he had Yusuke took a step forward and said, “Listen up demon! If you return Yukina to us now without harming her than I'll kill you quick. But if you make this harder for the both of us then I'm going to make you wish that you were never born.”

 

The demon stopped chuckling.

 

“Oh. Is that what you're going to do?”

 

“I take it that you're going to make this harder for both of us.”

 

Yusuke started to take a step forward but Genkai stopped him.

 

“Wait dimwit. Don't just blindly walk in there. This isn't your average demon. Use your head.”

 

“Trust me. I know what I'm doing.”

 

Kuwabara grabbed onto Yusuke's shoulder.

 

“Don't forget that Yukina is still being held by that thing. If you even let one thing happen to her I'm going beat the crap out of you!”

 

“Don't worry. Nothing will happen to her,” Yusuke said.

 

`Not just for your sake either. When Hiei finds out about this and Yukina is hurt I'll be lucky if he doesn't deep-fry my ass with his dragon,' Yusuke thought to himself as an after thought.

 

As Yusuke turned away from Kuwabara and Genkai he began to slowly walk towards the demon.

 

The demon spoke with amusement clearly in his voice.

 

“Do you plan to attack me on your own human? I'll admit that you do seem stronger than other humans but to you honestly belief that you can defeat me on your own?”

 

Yusuke glared at the demon.

 

“You know what. You talk too much. I guess you don't know who I am.”

 

The demon looked at him with a confused expression but still maintained its amused voice.

 

“Should I know you?”

 

Yusuke stopped where he was as the demon asked him. He lifted his right hand and pointed to himself with his thumb and said, “Yusuke Urameshi. Spirit Detective of Spirit World and champion of the Dark Tournament.”

 

Slight excitement could be seen in the demons eyes.

 

“So you're the new champion. I had heard that the previous one was recently defeated by a human boy. But I never would have guessed that I would meet you here.”

 

The excitement slowly disappeared.

 

“But what does that have to do with anything? Just because a human boy defeats one demon does not mean anything.”

 

“How about I prove you wrong?” Yusuke said in menacing voice.

 

Once Yusuke finished his sentence he started to run towards the demon. The demon let out another low chuckle as Yusuke got closer.

 

“Idiot! What the hell does he think he's doing,” Genkai said out loud.

 

“Who cares. Urameshi should be fine on his own. But he better not let anything happen to Yukina,” Kuwabara said.

 

As Yusuke was running at the demon he yelled out, “Lets see you surprise me again like last time!”

 

“Gladly.”

Cracks, from all different directions, started to run across the floor towards Yusuke. When one stopped in front of him a tentacle, in the shape of a stalagmite, shot out of the ground. Just barely avoiding the surprise attack, Yusuke jumped to his left.

 

“Damn that was close,” Yusuke said under his breath.

 

“Pay attention dimwit! More are coming!” Genkai yelled.

 

When Yusuke landed he barely had any time to avoid the next one. This one he dived forward to dodge. The demon smiled to itself as it watched Yusuke continue to run for his life. This went on for about a minute before Yusuke got tired of doing nothing but running.

 

“That's it!”

 

Yusuke ran forward, only jumping or rolling to the side when necessary, to try and end it quick. He didn't want to do this too much longer, fearing that the demon might get bored and hurt Yukina.

 

In an attempt to finally get Yusuke the demon shot it's tentacles out at him in a large group. Seeing this Yusuke quickly bent his knees and jumped over all of the tentacles.

 

“This is it asshole!”

 

Yusuke pulled back his right fist, preparing to deliver a powerful blow that he hoped would stun the demon and cause it to drop Yukina. As his fist was about to connect with where he knew the demons face was a bright purple light erupted from around where its body should be.

 

“What the hell!” everyone, minus the demon, yelled.

 

When the light erupted Yusuke's fist collided with something other than the demons face. From the force of Yusuke's punch hitting whatever it was caused a gust of wind to blow away some of the smoke, revealing the demon and a barrier. Power flew out of the barrier like a shockwave and flung Yusuke back.

 

Yusuke landed on his feet in a crouched position. He looked down to his hand and saw steam rising from it.

 

“Damn.”

 

He looked back up to the to finally see what it looked like. From what he guessed from its voice it was a male. It had long black hair and red eyes. The demon was wearing a light blue robe with some white line designs on it. The inside of the robe, which was noticeable around its neck, was a dark purple. It had black sleeves and spiked arm plates around its forearms with an extra band with more spikes around its upper right arm.

 

The rest of the demon seemed human looking except for the tentacles coming from its back.

 

`So that's why he so high up,' Yusuke thought to himself.

 

“Is that all? I was expecting more from all that confidence you had,” the demon said.

 

“Its more you want huh!? Well here it comes!” Yusuke yelled.

 

Yusuke began to quickly charge energy into his right index finger. He stood up, aimed, and braced himself.

 

“Spirit Gun!”

 

“Wait Urameshi! What the hell are you doing! Yukina is still up there!” Kuwabara yelled.

 

“Oh crap! I forgot!”

 

As the large blast of energy headed for the demon it stayed where it was. The demon smirked as the blast got closer. It pulled Yukina next to itself and created a barrier like the last one. Yusuke's energy hit the barrier with a powerful force and exploded. The explosion caused Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Genkai to shield their eyes as smoke and debris flew everywhere.

 

When the wind clamed down they opened their eyes. They looked to where the demon was before the explosion and were shocked to see that it was still there, completely unharmed.

 

“Wha… what the hell?” Yusuke whispered in disbelief.

 

“Amazing. That was an impressive attack for a human. But unfortunate for you it doesn't make a difference. You still failed to hurt me,” the demon said.

 

Yusuke glared at the demon.

 

`Damn this isn't good. My spirit gun didn't do anything against him. Maybe if I try again but with… no wait. I can't do that because now it has Yukina right next to itself. Damn it!'

 

“I see that this is going nowhere but that's fine. I have what I came for,” the demon said, raising Yukina up to its body.

 

“Wait a minute! What do you plan to do with Yukina!” Yusuke and Kuwabara both yelled.

 

“Nothing for the time being. But what happens to her all depends on you and your friends.”

 

Kuwabara ran up next to Yusuke and yelled up to the demon, “Who the hell do you think you are huh!? What kind of man uses a girl as a shield!”

 

The demon started to chuckle again before answering, “You humans are truly pathetic. I have no need to use this girl as a shield. It just makes this easy.”

 

Genkai then walked up to Yusuke and Kuwabara. She looked up at the demon with a hard glare.

 

“Who are you demon and what do you want?”

 

“What I want is something that I can't seem to get at the moment. But in do time it should come. As for my name you can call me Naraku. When I am able to get what I want I'll return with this girl. Hopefully she won't have an unfortunate accident.”

 

“Wait!” Yusuke yelled.

 

He tried to run towards the demon in an attempt to stop it but stopped when purple smoke burst out of its body and blocked his path. Shielding his eyes and nose with his arms Yusuke yelled out, “What the hell's happening!”

 

“Get away from that dimwit! It appears to be poisonous gas. Don't get any closer.”

 

“Damn!”

 

When the purple clouds cleared the demon was gone, along with Yukina.

Later That Evening

 

Yusuke sat alone on the front steps to Genkai's temple. He was leaning forward on his arms with his head hung low. Genkai slide the door to her temple open and looked down at Yusuke.

 

“I've notified Koenma about the situation. He's having Botan go and retrieve Kurama and Hiei. Chances are she won't find Hiei and will just give up on him and come here after a while. She's probably going to tell Keiko about this as well so that she can take care of things for you and Kuwabara back at your homes.”

 

After saying that she turned around and started to go back inside.

 

“Hey Genkai.”

 

She stopped and turned back around.

 

“What?”

Yusuke lifted his head up a little bit and asked, “What do you think that demon, Naraku, wants?”

 

Genkai closed her eyes in thought. It was true that they didn't know what the demon was talking about. Nothing was clear to them. She opened her eyes and looked back to Yusuke.

 

“There's no way to tell for sure yet what he was talking about. We're going to have to play this out very carefully Yusuke. Just don't go losing your temper like you did earlier. It might not end up like this time and you might regret it.”

 

After not hearing Yusuke say anything she turned back around and went back inside. Yusuke decided to head back in as well. He took a deep breath as he looked up at the sky.

 

`This is going to get ugly once Hiei finds out.'
