Kairuco slept fitfully that night, though extremely comfortable and happy to have taken a hot bath. It was mating season, and mating season was not a good thing for her. Many demons who had seen or talked to Kairuco had asked Sesshomaru if they would allow them to be her mate. They had even gone to such great lengths as to sneak into her room at night and wake her to do. . . unholy things. Which had, of course, caused her to blow them out her window and lock it up, using every demonic spell she knew to seal it.

But her warnings to Yoko, coupled by Hiei's reason, had let her be left alone that night. She was eternally grateful to the fire/ice youkai, but did not admit it. But, even if she did not admit it to herself, and she had only seen him for an hour or so, she had developed a small crush on Hiei.

~Morning: 5:30 A.M.~

"Kairuco. Wake up." A soft voice resonated to accompany a light shake. It was enough to wake the sleeping youkai. She had been trained to sleep lightly, so it didn't take much to get her up. Kairuco sat up and swung her legs over the edge of the bed. Yukina stood there with a small table with food piled on top right beside her. "Wake up sleepy head. I made breakfast especially for you. Everyone else besides Hiei-kun and Genkai-sama are sleeping. Kairuco nodded and gestured for Yukina to leave so that she could eat in piece. Yukina did so and Kairuco began to eat slowly.

When she was done, she had eaten only a quarter of the food and was full. She pushed away the small table and rose to walk to the wardrobe. She picked out a white training tank top which came to about the end of her rib cage, navy blue training pants similar to Hiei's, and a pair of light weight Nike tennis shoes. After tying her hair into a high pony tail, She ran and jumped gracefully from the balcony to land on the ground with ease. She looked around for Genkai, finding the old woman standing calmly with her hands behind her back and her feet placed carefully in an L position.

Kairuco walked up to her and bowed low. "Master." She said tranquilly. Genkai nodded her acknowledgement, but made no move to bow back.

"Kairuco, I have nothing to teach you that will help you in any way, so I am assigning you to Hiei. He will strengthen your spirit energy and, in turn, allow your body to be able to control your demonic power, which is immeasurable, I assure you. It will take much training. Are you up for it?" Kairuco was astounded that such a high level master would be admitting this, but nodded despite her dumbfounded ness . Genkai nodded crisply and walked off back to the temple.

Kairuco heard a slight swoosh behind her and twirled around to block an attack from a flashing katana. She smirked and said, "Is that all you've got, Hiei. . .Sama?" A faint Hn was heard and the man in black backed away, resheathing his katana. "Well. . . Are we going to train, or what?" And with that her intense training began with the fire/ice youkai that called himself her master.

A month passed and the two began getting closer to each other.((mating season ended half way through)) They would spend more time training alone out in the forest or at night by the lake. Once Kairuco leveled up or finished her lesson, they would sit together in compatible silence, or she would drag small bits and pieces of his torturous and tragic life from him. Kairuco soon learned that Yukina was his sister and was sworn to secrecy. Hiei also began opening up more around her only, stealing small glances at her while no one was looking, sometimes meeting her gaze when everyone else was occupied.

By a month and a half of her training, Kairuco had leveled up to a lower A-class demon. Equal to Hiei. ((yes, I know he's weaker than that, but he's been training. . . ))had also earned the subtle affection of her master. And at the end of two months the couple had discovered the art of making-out. But Kairuco's bliss was brought abruptly to an end when Her Uncle in law and "sister" came for a visit on her sixteenth birthday.

"Oji-san!!! Rin-chan!!" Kairuco yelled gleefully as the cold dog demon approached the temple with her best friend not far behind. Rin immediately ran to Kairuco and wrapped her in a crushing hug. Her hair had become longer and shone in the autumn sun. Her bright brown eyes glittered with happiness as she pulled back from the embrace. Kairuco smiled warmly at her but then turned her attention to her mentor, her master, her uncle, and her father, Lord Sesshomaru. "Master." She murmured, bowing low.

Sesshomaru's eyes shone with a hidden pride of what his niece had become. She was far more powerful, strength and elegance seething from her being. And a happiness that was not there before radiated from her. "Tell me, my kitsumei-chan (little fox niece), what has you so happy?" He got the answer he expected, but did not realize that it was a blatant lie. With a secretive glance to Hiei, who was standing beside Kurama, she answered.

"I am turning sixteen, and you two are her!! What is there to be unhappy about?" She asked innocently. 'Oh, little one, there is so much.' He thought as she smiled brightly. But he would not say anything to kill her contentment until he had to. And that moment was approaching fast. In fact, it was only hours away.

They had a big party for Kairuco. She received many gifts from everyone, except Hiei, that is. He had asked her to meet him while the rest were eating cake. So she did. ((who wouldn't? I'd take Hiei over cake any day!!!)) And while everyone, excluding Sesshomaru, who was meditating someplace, enjoyed German chocolate cake, she snuck out of the dining room to her balcony, where Hiei awaited her.

They greeted with a chaste kiss on the lips. "So what did you want to give me?" She whispered inquiringly. He smirked and drew something from beneath his cloak. It was about two feet long by 6 inches. It was covered in Black velvet, but was only a case. He opened it to reveal the real present. Kairuco caught her breath. Inside lay two perfectly made black daggers. By the hilts were engraved two silver foxes. Kairuco gazed up at him with awash eyes. "Whe- Where did you get these? They're beautiful!"

"I made them." He returned her gaze fully. She beamed up at him and took the case gently. "Like them?" She didn't trust herself with words, so she did the only thing she could think of to show her gratitude. She placed the daggers down gently on a small table, wrapped her arms around Hiei's neck, and kissed him fully on the lips. He returned it earnestly, enfolding her in his arms. And then he whispered something barely audible in her ear. "I love you." Her eyes widened, but a smile curled her lips.

"I love you too." She whispered back. Then she pulled away, smiling brilliantly, and picked up the gift that all of a sudden was nothing compared to what he had just said. She went back into her room, Hiei not far behind, and replaced her dull, almost harmless old daggers with the new ones, placing the case on a high shelf. She turned back to him and hugged him again. But it was interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Kai?" It was Rin. Hiei placed one last kiss on Kairuco's forehead and disappeared through the heavy curtains, sitting just behind them. Kairuco opened the door to a worried Rin. "What happened? You just. . . Disappeared." She told Rin that she hadn't been feeling well, but to come in to catch up on life. Rin did so and the two talked about how every thing was going with one another, and just as they had finished, Sesshomaru arrived. Rin left to leave the two alone to talk.

"Master."

"Kairuco." He began. " You have made me very proud." Kairuco flushed. "And I'm sure that your parents would be proud as well." He stared straight at her. "And that is why I, and you, must honor your mothers last wish. Kairuco, you are betrothed to the black fox prince, Kagemusha." The world seemed to freeze at that moment. Kairuco's violet eyes became dark and forbidding, narrowing at her shishou. Tears ran slowly down her face. Outside, Hiei's reaction wasn't much different, but he stayed to hear her words.

"NO!!!!!!! You. . . You can't make me!! I will not marry some one I do not know!" she shrieked at him. She got up and grabbed her dagger belt, slipping it on as she ran to the balcony. "Tell the bastard that I will NOT!!" And she pushed through the heavy cloth and into Hiei's ready arms. Sesshomaru came out after her just in time to meet an intense glare from a very pissed of Hiei and see them gone in a flash. He shook his head, not even bothering to go after them. They would come back, eventually.
