Chapter 6: Training Battle 3 - Kurama vs. Hanako

“Let the third match begin” shouted Genkai.

Kurama had pulled his usual rose from his hair and holding it behind his back had turned it into his standard Rose Whip.

Hanako was just standing there expecting anything, but not moving in any way. Kurama was having a hard time trying to figure her out. He couldn't understand what kind of power she might have that would allow her to just stand there. He would just have to risk an attack.

Kurama cracked his whip towards Hanako to see if she would move. The whip stopped in mid-air. Hanako still did not move. The whip flung back towards Kurama, almost hitting him in the face. Kurama was confused. He didn't know how she was able to repel his attack.

“Curious?” Hanako said. “The reason your attack failed is because, unlike most other demons, I don't use my energy physically do a direct attack... like Hiei with his dragons or Yusuke with his demon gun. I focus my energy through my mind allowing me to use mental attacks such as telekinesis - which is how I was able to deflect your whip, Kurama.”

Kurama thought “If that's how her power works, I'll have to figure out a way past her telekinesis. But that could be increasingly difficult if she has other abilities that involve her mind.”

“Unfortunately, I do have other abilities.” said Hanako. “Such as being able to read your mind, control the weak-minded, and a few other special tricks that I won't spoil for you.”

“I'll have to find a way around it then. Rose Whip - Thorn Wheel!” Kurama shouted as he swung the rose whip over his head repeatedly sending out waves of demonic energy that could slice through just about anything. He was hoping that this would be able to get through the telekinetic barrier that Hanako had set up. But it didn't - all the blast just got stopped at the barrier and disappated.

“You're not going to get through my barrier that easily. I hope you have another idea.”

Kurama notice there was still grass beneath her feet even after Hiei and Sai's battle. Not much, but was it enough? He slammed his palm into the ground and hoped there was enough for him to do what he had planned. The grass beneath her started to grow and wrap itself all around her.

“Clever, Kurama. But it's not going to work” Hanako said calmly. She looked straight at the rose whip which flew out of Kurama's hand and began cutting through the grass entrapping her. She then threw it back at him as if it was a spear. Kurama didn't have enough time to avoid it and it went straight through his stomach.

“Have you had enough, Kurama? I really don't want to hurt you.” Hanako asked. “Well, not too much.”

Gavin smiled, thinking to himself “ Hmm.. So, she's already done showing what she can do for now. She doesn't want to hurt Kurama. It's a good thing too. If any of use get too badly injured so we can't fight during this war, then we'll all die. On the other hand,I just hope Kurama has a little bit more fight than this in him or this will get boring real fast.”

Kurama got up and picked up the rose that had once been his rose whip. He knew he would have to transform if he wanted to win, or even come close. But he didn't want to. “Oh well, it looks like I'll have to.”

Kurama transformed into Yoko Kurama. He then used his demon energy and tore the rose into pieces, the stem, thorns and petals. He jabbed the stem into the ground and then spread the thorns on the ground around Hanako. He put his demon energy into the petals, making them as sharp as razor blades. He scattered them around her and had them fly towards her. As he already knew, Hanako had put up her telekinetic barrier to protect herself from the rose petal blades. Yoko then had the thorns shoot up from the ground like javelins. She blocked this too, but Yoko could see it was straining her power to do so. From behind her, the stem that was jabbed into the ground shot up and launched at her like a bullet. Hanako let down her barrier and jumped out of the way. The stem, thorns and petals all hit each other at once, cancelling each other out. Hanako pointed her right hand at Yoko and threw him in circle through three trees, up in the air and then slammed him into the ground.

The pieces of the rose merged back together and fell down at her feet. When the dust from the impact settled, Kurama was lying there, back to normal and unconscious.

Genkai shouted, “The winner is Hanako. There are only two people left so the next opponents should be no surprise to anyone. Yusuke and Gavin, step into the center area.”

As Kuwabara carried Kurama back to the sidelines to recuperate next to Hiei, Hanako walked over to Gavin.

“Good job” said Gavin.

“Thanks. Now promise me you won't lose.” Hanako responded.

“Don't worry, I won't.”

“Good” said Hanako as she kissed him. Gavin then stepped into the center area where Yusuke was already waiting and smiling.

“What are you smiling about, Yusuke?” Gavin smirked.

Yusuke, half-laughing, remarked “Just that after all I've seen from you, I really didn't expect to see any sort of humanity out of you. That and the fact that I can't wait to find out which of us is stronger after that incident in Spirit World.”

“I'm also excited, Yusuke. I think we're all excited to see the completion of that battle. And as for what you said before, you need to remember that just because I act more cold-hearted, I take my job seriously. And I don't intend to let any demon or human with an evil intent to live.”

“So tell me. Is she your wife or something?” Yusuke asked.

“No, she's my fiance'. Now if you're done with these questions, let's get down to business.”

“Fine by me.” Yusuke said.
