AMK: Hmmm maybe…But I think Kuwabara would be wearing the other one not Yu-chan (tee hee^^) Cuz Kuwa's is still Blue, Yu-chan's is green, and the other male students wear a kinda navyish colour. Yeah. Um…have fun skipping?

Leala-chan: YAY *glomp* ^______^ :P Of course you love Tora -_- You're kinda the one that designed her *shakes head* Baka
Yesh…Saiyuki…Gotta love it. Goku's kawaii ne? ^_^

calikocat: ^__^ Thanks! Yeah…I tried…It was kinda stupid really -_- I re-wrote the first chapter about six or seven times only keeping the basic plot idea…but yeah…I reaaally tried not to make her a mary sue and it's great when people tell me that they don't think she is, because then I know I did something right^.~ Yay!

~~~~~
“This is so stupid! Where do these things keep coming from?” Yusuke muttered, walking away from a now dead group of youkai.
“I don't know. They just…pop up.”
“Interesting choice of words, baka.” (a/n bet you can't guess who^^' yesh…It's Hiei, I warn you I will screw him up, but I try!)
Damare! Where the hell did you come from anyway? You weren't here before!” Kuwabara yelled.
Hiei chose to say nothing, (a/n Wow. There's a surprise.) just gave his normal “Hn.” And walked a few feet away from Kuwabara.
“We need to go find the others.” Kurama pointed out. They had just left them there after all.
“Great.” Yusuke muttered. “I'm sure Akina's going to want an explanation…If she doesn't get it she'll probably beat it out of me. She can be as bad as Keiko sometimes.”
“And what did I do wrong Yusuke?”
Yusuke jumped three or four feet into the air. “K-Keiko! What are you still doing here?”
“Trying to find you!”
“But you-” A glare from Keiko shut him up. Botan was with her…but Akina wasn't. “Hey, uh…where's Akina?”
“Oh Tora-san dragged her away, she said she would take her back to the apartment.”
“The apartment? Alright. At least she'll be safe there. We're going to have to do something about this youkai problem though.”
“Youkai problem? I didn't think it was that bad…” Kuwabara said, thinking for a second.
“You haven't been attacked countless times in the past week.”
“You may need to have a talk with Koenma-sama. He may know if something is happening.” Kurama suggested.
“I'm sure if he knew about it, he would have sent me in there by now to stop it.” Yusuke muttered.
Botan nodded. “I don't remember him saying anything, and he doesn't seem to be stressed out either.”
“Well we should try and figure things out. Should we head back to your place.” Kuwabara asked, directing his question towards Yusuke.
He shook his head. “Akina's there. We won't be able to.”
“Yusuke,” Keiko began. “If she's anything like me, she's going to want to know what's going on. I'm sure she's worried about you, she doesn't like seeing you hurt.”
“But it would just put her in danger! I don't want that. My `Kaa-san's never home, so she's really the only family I have left.”
“Hn, and this is coming from someone who says he needs no one.” Hiei said, deciding to say something.
“Oh and your one to talk. You won't even tell Yukina that-” he stopped, remembering Kuwabara and Keiko didn't know of the relation between the two.
If looks could kill, Yusuke would be past dead (..again) , as Hiei jumped up into the trees and disappeared.
Kuwabara blinked. “Tell Yukina what?”
“Nothing.”
“But-”
“Never mind!”
“So Yusuke, should we head back to your apartment?”
“But Akina-”
“Needs to know.” Keiko finished for him.
“I agree Yusuke. She was very upset when you were hurt the other day.” Kurama added.
“How would you- Oh, right. I forgot you went to school with her.” Yusuke sighed. “Alright. Let's go.”
~~~~~

“Do you think her cousin will have enough sense to tell her?” Tora asked leaning on the kitchen counter.

“It depends. I'm sure he doesn't want to endanger her.” Takai answered, looking for food to make for the three of them.

“Are you sure you don't want my help?” Tora asked watching him open a bag of rice that was sitting on the counter.

“The last time you cooked Tora-chan, you almost poisoned me. I think I can manage on my own.”

“It wasn't that bad.” She muttered. Then again, Takai could really cook. “So what are you going to make?” She asked as he put some rice into the rice cooker, followed by some water.

“It looks like it's going to just be rice. There isn't much else around.” He said, adjusting the temperature (a/n …I really need a rice cooker…I eat so much rice it's not even funny^^')

“I'm okay with that. And I'm sure Akina-chan would be too.”

“You should go see how she's doing.”

“Alright.” Tora said with a small nod.

Tora walked down the hall, knocking slightly on Akina's door. Kuroi brushed up against her leg, wanting back into the room.

“Akina-chan?”

“Hai?”
“Takai's making us some rice.”

“Takai-san?” Akina was uncomfortable around Takai. There was just something about him that seemed off. Although, she had been getting that feeling a lot recently, and around a lot of different people. Even Yusuke seemed to give her that feeling, making her feel uneasy. But she knew that it couldn't be something that bad…Yusuke had always complained when things were bothering him, and even if he didn't, she was able to get it out of him.

“Mm hmm.” Tora said with a nod. “You know Akina-chan, he's not that bad once you get to know him. You need to give him a chance. He doesn't open up to many people, for many different reasons. He's worse than Shuuichi-kun, but he's a great guy. And he cooks a hell of a lot better than I ever could.”

Akina smiled. “I don't think that's really that hard.”

“Your lucky I don't have anything to throw at you.”

“Aww…you couldn't hit me…I'm so innocent.” She put on her best innocent face before slipping past Tora and running towards the kitchen.

“Like hell you are. Come here!” Tora yelled running after her.

Akina squeaked and hid behind the kitchen counter, almost knocking Takai over. (He wasn't very impressed…)

“Tora…What are you doing?” He asked shaking his head. (a/n -_- Okay…Microsoft word is stupid…it says that sentence should be “What is you doing?” …Sure thing MW ...stupid thing -_-)

Tora folded her arms over her chest. “She insulted my cooking.” She blinked. “Wait, you've never eaten anything I've cooked…how do you know I can't?”

Akina smiled. “Lucky guess, and you don't really seem like the kind of person that could cook. You seem like a more…active person. Kinda like my cousin actually.”

“I'm not sure if I should take that as a compliment or not. As close as you are with your cousin, his reputation around this area isn't the best.”

Akina sighed. “I've learned to accept that. He's just so…rebellious. You can't keep him locked up.”

“Well I suppose if you accept him, he can't be that bad. I'm just not big on putting up with people who have attitudes like that.”

A small…well it couldn't really be called a laugh, was heard from Takai.

“What?” Tora asked looking confused.

“You have quite an attitude yourself. You shouldn't get after others for it.” He said, with a small almost smile. (a/n Yes. Almost smile. Don't question it.)

Something about Takai seemed different. Akina had never seen him smile. …Come to think of it, he had disappeared earlier hadn't he? Back when they we're still in the park…where had he gone? From the way Tora was acting it seemed like there was something bad happening and it was dangerous to be in the forest.

“Ano…Tora-chan?”

“Hmm?” Tora asked looking up from where she was trying to steal some rice before Takai managed to get it into a bowl.

Akina stood, debating with herself trying to figure out whether she should ask or not. “I was wondering-” She stopped herself. “No never mind it doesn't really matter.”

Tora gave her a concerned look. “Is everything alright?”

Akina nodded slightly, hoping to convince her friend. “Yeah everything's fine, don't worry. I was just had a question, but I figured out the answer.”

Tora hesitated before replying, “Alright…”

“Here.” Takai said handing a bowl of rice to Akina, his cold expression sending an involuntary shudder down Akina's spine.

“A-arigatou.” She said taking it from him, avoiding eye contact.

“Sooo…” Tora began anxious to start a conversation. “Are you fitting in alright around here?”

“Mmm-hmm.” Akina said, a smile showing on her face. “I used to be over here all the time when I was younger, so I do know most of the area and some of the other places around.”

“About your cousin. Have you noticed a change in him recently?”

Akina blinked in confusion, “What kind of change?” She asked pausing before eating her rice.

“Well, has he been acting differently lately?”

“Acting differently?” Akina thought about it for a few seconds. “Mmm….no he's still the same Yusuke. He's always been a little…how can I put this…Defiant. He's just the kind of guy who likes things done his way, and he sees certain things as a bother to him. He'll just decide that some things are useless and shouldn't be bothered with. But he's still the same person. He has matured a bit though, since the last time I saw him, which really surprised me. He's always been the type to joke around about things. Well, he still is, but he doesn't seem to do it as much anymore.”

“You told me about a time where he supposedly died, but was mysteriously alive again later. Has he changed since then?”

“Well, I'm not sure. It's been a while since I was last here. I hadn't seen him at all during that time. I was really busy around that time studying and everything. We were planning to head out here, my parents and I, I mean, but before we could it seemed he was fine.”

“Have you ever wondered about that? I mean, didn't the doctors declare him dead?”

“Well, yeah, but Yusuke, he's always been the type to come out of every situation on top. I don't think he could actually die if he tried. He's just that kind of guy.”

Tora nodded. Akina obviously knew nothing of who her cousin really was. The name Yusuke Urameshi struck fear into youkai of all levels.

“Is something wrong Tora-chan? I mean…why are you suddenly interested in Yusuke?”

“Um…No reason. I just wanted to learn a bit more about him that's all. I mean, you are pretty close with him after all.”

“Well yeah, but you just seem a little-“

“It's nothing.”

Akina frowned. She wasn't stupid. She could tell that Tora knew something about her cousin. Something he was keeping from her. Something she knew was important. She hesitated before replying with an “Alright.” She decided to let it go. If it really was important she would just have to trust that her cousin would tell her.
~~~~~
Yusuke sighed, stepping up towards the door of the Urameshi apartment. He placed a hand on the doorknob knowing that Akina was home and he wouldn't need his key. He hesitated, not wanting to open it, knowing that when he did he would have to tell Akina.
The others had all gone to their respective homes, leaving Yusuke to tell Akina about his past and his death.
Keiko had insisted on going with him, saying that Akina was her friend and that she wanted to be there for extra support. Yusuke wouldn't let her come though. He needed to do this himself and Keiko may get in the way or make him nervous. Although he was nervous already. He and his cousin had always been very close, and he was afraid of what her reaction would be. He didn't want their sibling-like relationship to be ruined.
Taking a deep breath he opened the door, praying that things would go well. Removing his shoes quickly he didn't bother putting them away. He never did. He did notice that there was two extra pairs of shoes though.
“Hey Akina!” He called into the house, so that he could let her know that he was home.
Akina appeared in the hallway seconds later, not looking to impressed with him. “Alright Yusuke. I think you have some explaining to do.”
“Uh…yeah. You need to get your friends to leave though. It's not really something I can discuss out in the open.” He was nervous. Akina could tell. Whatever it was, it was extremely important.
“Alright.” Akina said with a nod walking back into the kitchen. “Hey Tora-chan? I have some things to discuss with Yusuke. So uh…” She trailed of trying not be rude.
Tora smiled. “I'll go.”
“Arigatou.”
“Meh. Let's go Takai.” Tora said taking his arm and pulling him through the hall to the entrance.
After the two had left and Akina had taken care of the dishes in the sink, she walked back to the living room where Yusuke was sitting on the couch. Sitting beside him she spoke with a glare. “Alright Yusuke. What is going on? And if you even think of saying nothing I swear I will have to hurt you.”
Yusuke was silent for a bit, trying to put together an explanation in his head. “Alright. This is going to sound really stupid, and I don't blame you if you don't believe me.”
“It depends what you say Yusuke. I can tell that something has been bothering you. I'm not stupid. I know that something's up. If you say anything stupid I may not believe you. But then I'll have to hurt you for making a big deal out of nothing.” The threat was real too. If the whole thing turned out to be one of his jokes, she would have to hurt him.
“I know there was a reason for you and the others to run off earlier. Tora-chan seemed to know something about it as well. I just want to know what is going on. I'll try my best to believe you. Not even you would pull a stunt like this. Besides, you've never been the best actor. I know that something is truly bothering you. I can tell that this isn't another one of your stupid jokes.”
“It's a little weird though…I doubt you're going to believe me.”
“Well just tell me anyway Yusuke.”
Yusuke nodded. He was still nervous. Afraid of losing the relationship he had with his cousin because of what he was. “Alright. You remember about a year ago when I got hit by that car and everyone thought I was dead?” His voice was slightly shaky, lacking its usual confident tone.
Akina nodded, unsure of where he was going with this.
“Well…” He hesitated, unsure of whether or not he should actually tell the girl. “Alright. I was actually dead.” He winced waiting for his words to sink in.
Akina blinked in surprise not understanding his words fully. “Yusuke-”
He cut her off. “It's not a joke Akina. I was really dead. That's when I met Botan. Botan's a shinigami, and she was sent to take me to Reikai. There I found out that I wasn't supposed to die, and I was given a chance to earn back my life.”
“I-I don't understand! You were…dead? But you're….”
“Like I said, I was given a chance to earn back my life and I obviously did something right because, well, here I am.”
Akina was still finding it hard to believe. “You…were actually…dead?”
Yusuke nodded. The reaction was better than he had expected. She was actually taking it quite well.
“Does…Oba-san know that?”
Yusuke nodded, “She knows most of what's going on.”
“So you were dead…”
Yusuke rolled his eyes. “How many times am I gonna have to say that…”
“Sorry. But it's just so hard to believe.”
“I know. Took it a while to click in for me as well.”
“But…your being dead doesn't explain why you and the others ran off earlier…or why you came home covered in blood.” Akina winced remembering that incident. She hated the sight of blood and it was worse when the blood belonged to someone she cared about.
“Alright…when I was taken to see Koenma, the ruler of Reikai…sorta, he gave me a chance to get my life back. When I was brought back to life he made me his tantei.”
“Tan…tei? But-”
“I know it sounds weird…But basically it's my job to make sure that youkai don't come over to ningenkai and destroy it. When I was killed my reiki took a huge jump making me able to do this.”
“Yo-youkai? I thought that youkai were just a myth…I mean, that's like something that you would read in a book or base an anime on or something…” (A/N Sorry…couldn't resist the anime comment^^')
“I know. But Makai's real, same with Reikai. Either that or this whole thing has taken a lot of convincing movie sets and some really good actors. Not to mention amazing special effects…”
“So you protect Ningenkai from youkai…I think I want to meet this Koenma guy and ask him what he was thinking to give you such a huge responsibility.”
“Well I can't be doing too bad…Everyone's still here right?”
Akina shook her head with a smile. “It's only a matter of time before you screw up like you always do Yusuke…”
Yusuke frowned. “Hey…”
“What about the others who went with you? Do they know?”
“Well Kuwabara has a high Reiki level, so he's able to sense supernatural activity. Kurama, you know him as Shuuichi, is actually a youkai, along with Hiei but you haven't met him yet. Kurama and Hiei were on parole after they stole from Reikai, actually that was my first case. Anyway since they're on parole Koenma made them help me out. Kuwabara just came along because he's an idiot and wanted to feel special.”
“Shuuichi-kun? …wait he's.”
“Yup a fox youkai. A strong one to. Although I'm stronger.” He said confidently. “He uses stupid plant things to kill youkai and crap, which I think is a little girly, but ah well. It works.”
“…Okay…Does Keiko know?”
Yusuke nodded. “She's worse than you, you know that?” She practically beat it out of me and when I didn't tell her she got it out of Botan.”
Akina smiled. “You're lucky you told me. I was about ready to beat it out of you as well.”
“So you actually believe me than.” Yusuke stated.
“Well it does sound a little farfetched, but yeah I guess it works for me.”
“Alright well that's basically it. There ya go. Happy now?”
“Thanks Yusuke.” She said giving him a quick hug. “Anyway, I need to go and finish my homework. If you're planning anything make sure to include me, kay?” She said smiling at her cousin.
“I don't see why you bother with homework.”
“I care about school Yusuke.”
“Whatever, oh and remember, you said I didn't have to go to school tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow's Sunday Yusuke.” She said before closing her door.
“Dammit!” he yelled. “I hate you Akina!”
“Love you too Yusuke.” Came the reply from behind her closed door.
~~~~~

Japanese

Damare= Shut up…there are other ways to say this but this is the most common way I found…

Ano= I have seen it translated as “Well…” but the times I've seen it used it seemed more like “Um…”. If I am wrong about this feel free to correct me:P

Oh yeah…and Lor used koi in the disclaimer…it basically translates into love….and fish o_0 well…not really but it's a type of fish. Carp I think:P…yeah…o_0

Notes

You see? I told you I'd screw up Hiei! …Um…yeah…I don't really think I do very good with his personality…but I try^^' Although you probably couldn't tell cuz he didn't have much of a role in this chapter…It'll get bigger though….I think o_0 yeah…^^'

Lol... Takai talks…. Wow! ^_^ Yup…He just doesn't talk often. Mostly the only person he talks to is Tora. And some other people…who may be in the fic later…I'm not sure if I wanna include them :P

Wow…It's been a while since I've updated….gomen…I had severe writers block. …And I was playing Tales of Symphonia almost all day every day…God I love that game…^^' I've beaten it twice…going for number three now…I think I'm actually going to take the alternate ending this time…I've kinda been avoiding it…*huggles Zelos* It's just so….EVIL! *sniffle* Zelos is my favorite character… But yeah…I've gotta do it sometime. …And I'm actually gonna try and do ALL (>.<) of the side quests this time….ooo fun -_-

Er…..wow…that just shows how little attention I give to this poor fic….I wrote that TOS note a couple months ago….I've beaten the game twice more since then o_0 And if you're wondering I did take the alternate ending *huggles Zelos* and managed to get most of the side quests done…cept sword dancer….completely forgot about that one^^' God I hated Abyssion though>.< It took me forever to beat him….

I just realized I had romance as one of the genres. I didn't originally intend for there to be any romance in this fic, and even if there is it won't be until further along in the fic. I'm not even sure if there's going to be a set pairing, and if there is, it might be OC/OC. I haven't really decided yet. Anyway, I've removed Romance and also changed a few other things. Hope everything makes more sense now^.~

Um…I also thought that I should start cutting down on my use of Japanese…I'm just using too much of it. I'll keep the significant words like Reikai and youkai, and also the honorifics. Of course if you guys want me to keep using all the Japanese just let me know^^

Oh I mentioned that Atsuko knew about the whole spirit detective thing. In the manga she does, in the anime she doesn't. Something I find completely stupid but ah well.

Oh and on a random note that has nothing to do with the fic…I just found out the other day that I'm going to be going to Japan!^____^ It's through an exchange program. So hopefully when I get back my Japanese will be a little better and I'll be able to make sure that I have everything right. It'll also give me a better idea of the customs in Japan, so I'll be able to add in a few more or so. I'm not going until the end of July though, so you'll have to wait for a bit^^ I am extremely excited though^____^

And now that I've had about a whole page of notes >.< Lets get on with stuff….yay^^

Quote of the chapter:

"Sir, for him to be my dog, he'd have to respond when I called him." -Keiko
