I really like the way you captured my attention with the very first two sentences. "Kagome was going soft. She knew it." It immediately drew me in to see in what way she felt she was going soft: physically? in her schoolwork? In her dealings with Inuyasha or Shippou? I knew this was a Hiei/Kagome piece, so could it have something to do with how she dealt with HIM? It was a great hook. ^_^ My favorite element in this part of the story (first chapter) is the way you wrote her grandfather. I think you captured him perfectly. The dialogue between them and the whole family setting was just so right and very engaging and appealing. Wonderful! ^_^

Very well in character. Love the mutual distrust of Genkai and Kagome, both thinking along the same line: "can't be worth shit if she's recommended by Higurashi ojiichan..." Love the Hiei and Kurama part, too. Go, Miko, get'em!
