In an Era of treacherous promises, Kagura, the daughter of a deceitful marquis, soon finds herself on the wrong side of the bars and sailing across the large waters to an unknown world in shackles aboard a crowded convict ship.
Half starved and raped by the ship hands Kagura is only slightly relieved to find herself as one of a young lord’s many possessions, a nursemaid and teacher to the two orphans adopted by the seemingly heartless brothers of the Granite household.
Still, one must wonder why she was chosen over the well educated maids of the hamlet. Dark shadows lurk everywhere and as Kagura's father races across the seas to buy her freedom from the cheery house and take her back to England and under his control, a newer more fearful danger lurks within the very walls she now calls home. A danger she finds herself all to eager to confront.
