Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Shadowy Links to the Past ❯ Yami's Favor ( Chapter 4 )
Calupe: Yeah, I probably should have made the last chapter into 2...would have updated sooner at least! :) I'll try to remember to make the chapters shorter, so I can update sooner. Thanks again for the review!
Ok. So I got one vote for shorter chapters/more updates. Heh heh, unfortunately though, the next week and half or so I have a lot of tests, so I don't know when the next time is that I'll be able to update… my apologies for that.
Disclaimer: Same. Don't own Yugioh.

Chapter 4: Yami's Favor
Later that night, Yami was up with Yugi in his room. Yugi was getting ready for bed. As Yugi was getting his backpack ready for school tomorrow, Yami sat on his bed, thinking. Ok, here goes…
"Yugi, I have a …favor to ask of you."
Yugi turned from his backpack, looking at Yami. He smiled. "Sure Yami, anything."
Ok, this is doing to sound dumb…Yami took a deep breath. "At school tomorrow, could you…ask Dwenny to go out with me?" Yami grimaced at his own words a bit.
Yugi raised his eyebrows a little. Yami wanted to go out on a date with Dwenny? This was new. Ever since that first attack by Marik, Yami could only think of his unknown past, and his destiny. Now, he's showing sudden interest in a girl. "Sure, Yami, I'll ask her for you. You can go out with her once school's out, if she's not busy. I don't mind," he added.
"Thank you, Yugi. This means a lot to me."
"Oh really?" asked Yugi. He couldn't help but grin. "How come?"
"…"
Yugi grinned even more at this. "Somebody has a crush on her…" he teased.
Yami faltered a bit. "No, I don't!" he stated a little too quickly. "I just want to get to know her, so I can figure out why she feels familiar." He paused. "And I'm also curious about her magick as well. I'd like to know more about it."
Yugi gave a short laugh. "Ok, Yami, whatever you say," he said, still grinning.
Yami groaned a little, shaking his head. "Good night, Yugi." Then he disappeared back into his soul room.
Yugi was still grinning as he switched off the light and climbed into bed. This should be interesting…he thought as he drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, before classes had started, Yugi was walking around the halls, searching for Dwenny. Since he was short, he could easily weave his way in and out of the crowd. He just had trouble seeing sometimes. Luckily though, he was able to spot Dwenny standing next to her locker. She was holding Bestian against her shoulder with one arm, and with the other she was putting books from her leather satchel into the locker. Yugi made his way up to her, then tapped her lightly on the shoulder. "Good morning, Dwenny!"
Dwenny turned around. "Oh, hello Yugi. How are you doing?"
"Fine thanks. Getting settled in?"
"Yeah. I just came for the office. They weren't too happy with Bestian being her, but I told them that my uncle wouldn't let me leave unless I had a "protector" with me." She shrugged. "So they let him stay.
Yugi reached up to give Bestian a pat on the head. Now, for the task at hand. "So…are you busy after school today?"
Dwenny thought for a moment. "No, I don't think so. What's going on?"
"Well, Yami was kinda wondering if you'd, umm, umm, go out with him after school today."
Dwenny raised her eyebrows. Yami? The spirit? Why in the world would he want to go out with her? Perhaps he feels the same connection as I do. Still, she didn't come here to socialize. She had an assignment to complete. But then again, this would be a good opportunity to find out more about him. And why I feel a connection… She gave Yugi a smile. "Sure, I'd be delighted to go out with him."
"Great!" Yugi said happily. "I'll meet you at the front of the school gate then."
"Ok, I'll see you then." Dwenny snapped her locker shut, then picked up her satchel. "Have a good day, Yugi."
"You too, Dwenny." Yugi said as they parted. Yugi walked to his next class, talking to Yami as he did.
Great news Yami, she said yes!
Yami was relieved. Thank you Yugi for helping. Are you sure you don't mind? You don't have plans for yourself?
It doesn't really matter. I was going to go to the arcades with the guys and Tea, but I can hang out with them some other time. It's not a big deal.
Yami was worried for a moment as he thought of something. Yugi, I don't think we should mention my, ah, date with Dwenny to your friends.
I agree. I get the feeling they don't like her too much, especially now that we know she's related to Pegasus.
Yami sighed. He hoped things didn't get any more complicated than they already were.

At last, classes were finally over. Yugi rushed out of his last class, down the hall, and to his locker. He quickly spun the combination, then popped open the door. He exchanged some books, then slammed the locker shut. Picking up his backpack, he once again made his way in and out of the crowd, finally making it outside. He was breathing a bit fast.
Yugi, Yami said, slow down. There's no need to rush.
Of course there's need to rush! Can't keep your date waiting! Yugi smirked.
"Hey Yugi! Where are you going in such a rush?"
Yugi stopped and turned toward the voice. It was Tea, with Joey and Tristan standing next to her.
"Oh hey Tea, Joey, Tristan. I was just, umm, umm…" Yugi couldn't lie to his friends. He just couldn't. Yami, I can't lie to them. I'm sorry.
It's ok Yugi. Go ahead and tell them. Yami sighed. This can't be good.
"I, um, was on my way to meet Dwenny," Yugi said quietly. "Yami kinda has a date with her."
His three friends stared at him, their mothers hanging wide open.
"So uh, we'll hang out some other time, ok?" Yugi said quickly. He turned towards the gate, hoping he could get away while his friends were still in shock.
"Wait a minute, Yuge," Joey said.
Rats… Yugi looked at Joey. "Umm…yeah?"
"Yami has a date with Dwenny? Alone? Something doesn't seem right here."
"What do you mean, Joey?"
"I'm not really sure, but I get the feeling she's not telling us the entire truth, ya know?"
"I think Joey's onto something there," Tristan said. "I mean, who would want to be friends with somebody who they knew hated a relative of theirs? Something's definitely not right here. There must be another reason why she followed us here."
Yugi thought fast. "Well, maybe Yami could find out more about her for us then…." He let the statement dangle like bait for a fish.
His friends bit at it. "Yeah!" Joey said. "Yami cold get close to her and find out why she's really here. Great idea Yuge!"
Yugi breathed a sigh of relief. Whew, that was close.
Good thinking Yugi, Yami said to him.
"Well, I have to be going now. I'll see you guys later." Yugi waved bye to his friends, then quickly ran off toward the school gates. As he neared the gates, he could see Dwenny leaving against the gates, her arms crossed. Bestian was sitting on the ground next to her.
Ok, Yami, time for you to take over. Good luck!
Thank you, Yugi. The Millennium Puzzle glowed a bit, then Yami appeared.
Dwenny looked up when she felt the power of the Puzzle. She smiled when she saw Yami approaching. "I was beginning to think you weren't going to come." She pushed herself off the gate, then reached down to pick up her satchel.
"My apologies for being late. Yugi had to talk with his friends for a few moments."
"Not a problem. So where to?"
"Why not some place where we can talk?"
Dwenny nodded. "Sure thing. A girl in one of my classes told me about a popular hang out for teens. We can go there, if you want."
Yami smiled. "Sounds good then."
"Great! I'll drive then. My car is over here." She whistled to Bestian, then the three of them walked over to her car.

Ok. There's chapter 4! Like I said above, I have a bunch of tests in the next week, so I probably won't update for a week or so. I'll try to update earlier if I can. But yeah…in the next chapter, Dwenny gets an unexpected visitor during her date with Yami. Then something really unexpected happens later on! :D Review if you can!
