Since I didn't seem to get it right the last time, and taking your hint into account...The title of the fic could refer to food and/or the act of eating. A lot of the chapters refer to food (ie beef, oranges, cheese). This is the most obvious connection to me. Hope I didn't overthink it this time!

Your last 3 chapters just rocked! Really and truly! I enjoyed the tenderness between Inu - Kag as well as your thoughtful explanations of their feelings and thoughts. Nice job. And clever - equating riding a motorbike with the feeling that Kags gets when Inu carries her!

Let's see if I can earn a free Inuyasha video. The symbolism of the title is obvious: Sloppy seconds refers specifically to the reuse of Kagome/Kikyo's soul and generally of nonvirginic sexual relationships. I've heard of a woman's hymen reffered to as both a cherry and a plum, so this fact adds humor to Inuyasha's misinterpretation of the word "prom," a dance infamous for "deflowering." On a side note: I love how the loss of a woman's virginity is connected to fruit and flowers when the act itself is often bloody and painful-too ironic. I'm not really sure of any other symbolism, although I do think it's interesting how the guys seem to be more sexually hesitant and repressed than the girls. It's as though the order of dominance has changed, with the men protecting an imaginary "cherry." In this sense, "Sloppy Seconds" implies a reversal of gender construction and sexual identity-the men are the fumbling, shy virgins and the women are suave and confident. I hope I've earned myself a video ;)
